Hey /o/. Found an old guy with a 2005 Outback 2.5 parked in his driveway. Turns out it needs a new rear hatch, and he says it runs fine but needs something related to the timing belt that costs $2000 to fix. I'm assuming cylinder head gaskets being a Subaru.

So I could get this thing for $500. Worth it? I'd probably flip it after I fixed it, but I suppose I could drive the thing if I was willing to lower myself to lesbian flannel life.

$500 is definetly worth it. Whats its condition otherwise? Is it an XT like in that picture (turbo)? Timing belts are shitty to change on subaru boxer engines despite what faggots on /o/ claim to say. Since they're going balls deep into changing it, theyre gonna change the water pump and seals so thats the running cost to do it.

Head gaskets arent issue on that generation so its only maintenance hes probably talking about if it still runs.

Sourcing the hatch will be hard since those generation of subarus dont show up in scrap yards often. And if they do, they get picked very quicky.

It's a naturally aspirated. About 100K on the clock. Car looks really nice although the passenger seat was eaten by a dog.

>Head gaskets arent issue on that generation

I would disagree with you there. Not quite the same issue as 2000-ish models but The Internet says it's still a huge problem, worse in certain ways.

Extremely late reply my bad. It's a great car, fun as fuck. But working on it is a bit of a bitch. Nothing too hard but just doing the sparkplugs on that fucker (with stock headers) takes a good couple of hours. You also have to jack the passenger side of the motor out to even try to get to those ones if you don't wanna drop a shit load of stuff underneath.

It's a wonderful car, a bit aggravating but nonetheless it's a great car. Just replaced the waterpump and distributor on it. If you're going for the LT1 it's a bit harder to work on than the LS1 counterpart, so I'd suggest you go that route. You also then dont have to deal with the hell of a distributor that goes out whenever it wants to get wet. So when the waterpump leaks it gets all over the dizzy, it sucks ass.

It also doesn't help the engine is half way under the cowl and crammed against the firewall lmao.
