Does /o/ have any experience with replacement air filters like the K&N, HKS and the such?

Mainly the only reason you'd buy one of those filters is because of the fact they're washable. If you live in an environment like Arizona where it shits dust you need one that you can wash off every so often and not spend 30 bucks a pop on a standard paper filter.

Supposedly they flow better but that's just marketing horseshit

Don't get a cold air intake either. That's just marketing spam if the rest of the engine is 99% stock. Hell it might even hurt cars because the ECU miscalculates for A/F ratio and can make your engine run lean.

TL;DR get one if you want to save some cash in the long run, but don't buy into marketing

Upgrade to a donaldson powercore and change your filter every ~100,000miles. Even when it is full it will still clean the air better than any regular paper filter. Very free flowing design. Works on a similar concept to a labyrinth oil bath filter but without the oil.

The filtration isn't that great, all kinds of shit can get in your engine.

A better air flow should lead to a slightly better low-rev performance right?
>>
I have a Spectre washable air filter. Don't notice any difference in terms of it running rougher/smoother.
>>

You probably wouldn't notice it. If you were running a dyno and had a detailed chart, you could see what, a 2-3 hp difference?
>>
>>15254979
Not necessarily. Fluid dynamics are weird.

K&n only works correctly when properly oiled.
Too dry and cheap paper element is better.
Too wet and you just contaminated your air meter.
Not worth the effort price.

That's why you get an oil less reusable filter.

It's easy as fuck if you follow the instruction.

Me being b/o/osted I want to get one for sum fuccboi turbo spoolin

you dont have to oil it on the street.

air filter "upgrades" alone will have an almost immeasurable effect on every vehicle

Goddamned, this. I've run the same K&N filter between two cars over the past ~7 years. I can truly attest that it's a money saver with TCO compared to any minor power gain (although I could've sworn I noticed a difference in my first Subaru with the low end power band)

BUY A FACTORY OEM FILTER!
a fucking group of engineers made sure the stock filter would perform fine even with dumb people never changing them.

most OEM filters are designed to support the stock engine's power even when 50% blocked.

it's like a group of smart people made sure of this...
