Cheer me up /n/,
My bikes just been stolen, I'm an incredibly broke speech and language therapist student from the UK. I'm on placement at the moment, I spend 4 days a week treating patients and 2 days a week working my part-time job to try and scrape by. On my one day off, while I was studying in my room, someone broke into my back garden and stole my prized possession - an old shitty hybrid bike (It was the best thing I could afford and I loved it).

Cheer me up with pictures of aesthetically pleasing bikes.

Are you a girl? That sounds like a girl profession.

I like the aesthetic of modern groupsets on classic frames, but black doesn't work on old frames. Unfortunately, you have to go to Athena for a silver groupset.

>>895857

That sucks op. If you're in a uni city there might be a half decent bike co-op in town that could sort you out with something.

>>
>>896569
Because Athena doesn't actually use inferior construction methods.

Your alloy C-Record would just be Athena with some titanium hardware (which has a pretty awful return on grams to dollar compared to going carbon), and Chorus shifters(levers are the only difference between Chorus, Record and SR shifters) with Athena levers.
>>
>>896765
2015 Chorus/Record/SR is not compatible with Athena, so they'd have to base alloy Ultrashift on 2014 Chorus, but then it would be weird to have a "Record" groupset that doesn't act like Record does, specifically the new front ring shift.

A Ti five-arm crankset would be neato, too. Campy's new 4-arm crabon cranks do not look that good on classic-styled frames.
>>
>>896763
Err, chrome Paramounts weren't exactly rare.

That sucks OP, I know that feel. Now I know that just because it's in your backyard doesn't mean it's safe. Sucks that you have to lock something up on your own property.

There's a special circle in hell reserved for bike thieves. What kind of person would be so selfish to remove someone else's clean and healthy, sometimes only form of transportation? I like how they did it in the old west, where they could hang you for being a horse thief. That should apply for bicycle thieves today.
>>
>>896956
Yeah, but bike thieves like to hide behind homeless people, which makes the bleeding heart crowd get all weepy about the plight of the poor fucking thieves and blah blah blah.

It's from an auction of classic bikes from some time ago, here you go bud

https://www.dorotheum.com/en/auctions/current-auctions/kataloge/list-lots/auktion/11198-bicycles-from-the-embacher-collection.html?sort=priceDesc&offset=2&currentPage=1#lot-1872769
>>
>>897550
It's one of the bikes from the Embacher Collection, which was auctioned off earlier this year:

https://www.dorotheum.com/en/auctions/current-auctions/kataloge/list-lots-detail/auktion/11198-bicycles-from-the-embacher-collection/lotID/173/lot/1872868-eddy-merckx-corsa-extra.html

The whole auction list:

https://www.dorotheum.com/en/auctions/current-auctions/kataloge/list-lots/auktion/11198-bicycles-from-the-embacher-collection.html?currentPage=3#lot-1872845

I'm a little sad that a move made me miss the opportunity to bid on a couple of them that I fancied, but it's not like I needed a god-tier vintage bike or anything.

Something similar happened to a friend

>lock bike to pole
>lock gets broken and bike stolen
>find it on local CL like ten miles away
>goes by himself to "check it out"
>asks the scumbags selling it if he can take it for a spin to see how it rides
>they say no
>tell them if it's okay to just ride in a circle around them or something
>hesitantly say yes
>slowly shifting down for a nice acceleration
>nearby street light is about to go green
>DROP THE FUCKING HAMMER BEFORE THEY EVEN REACT
>switch the phone number he used to contact the scumbags

Must have been so satisfying

It's a headset-mounted cable stop, they're extremely common on bikes with centerpull or canti brakes, they're sandwiched between the race and lockring on threaded forks, or they just function as an extra spacer for threadless.
>>
>>898238
That's how you set up centerpull calipers. There's a similar cable stop above the rear brake bridge.

It's the middle ring on a triple. The chainline is probably about the same if he or she put it in the equivalent ratio gear on the cassette in the big ring

You got me. For some reason I thought he was talking about a different bike. A middle chainring has better chainline than either the small or big ring on a double.

I disagree. It is pretty.

I don't know why people don't like these. I've got that crank in silver and I think it looks boss as fuq.

At least those have some symmetry going on.

I have the older model, the silver color. I really like the Shimano hollowtech, the look is nice, the shifting is SUPERB. I really like the transition from high to low gear

>>911949
Confirmed. I rode claris+gossamer cranks and 105 cranks, flipped my shit when a friend of mine got a tiagra with that shit crank. Looks like a god damned baking dish.

Try checking Gumtree and Preloved for free bikes, a few years ago I was in a similar situation to you, no spare money and my bike was stolen out of my shed, the little cunts broke the lock off the shed and the bike.

I managed to find a free to a good home bike on preloved, it was as ugly as home made sin, but it worked, I got some black paint from poundland and blacked it all in, greased all the bearings up and adjusted it all, it got me to and from uni until I could get a better one

You'll be (likely) horrified that at one time horse (bicycle) thieves were *hanged* to death in the American Frontier. I've had one bike stolen off my 2nd fl. apt. patio (unlocked) and one destroyed by vandals for their fun b/c left overnight near a commercial district.

>>

I believe they're about as efficient as a belt drive which is in between the average chain and a freshly cleaned chain in efficiency. The important part about shaft/belt drives is that you don't have to clean them so they don't lose efficiency in shitty environments. I just love the look of shaft drives.
