Opinions on the PEAVEY ValveKing II 50 and PEAVEY 6505+112?
im trying to choose between those because of their features, price and the sound ive heard through multiple videos, does anyone have an idea which one responds to lower frequencies better?
ill be playing more stoner rock/stoner metal if that means anything other than you being able to poke fun at me

should i get an orange or marshall for $200 range combo amp?

>>
>>66458527
i've set a soft budget of ~$200-300. i like the metallica thrash sound so being able to do that's a must, but other than that i play a variety like green day, nirvana, lots of stuff. i'm using an esp ltd ex50 with humbucker pickups i believe. dont really know a bunch about that stuff. ideally i'd like something i could use at small venues in the future too

Humbuckers wired in series give you the fat, higher-ouput tone most people think of. Wired in parallel, it's brighter and less output. Sounds more like a singlecoil pickup

Hey guys, looking for a classical guitar with 7 strings, the extra string being on the low end, a bass string to expand the range to play some low end cello works. Pic related.

Any idea where to look? Obvious places have been checked to no avail. Literally might have to contact the luthier guild but money money money.

bought this bass at a pawn shop for $60

buying a badass bridge, quarter pounder pickups, and new pots and such. but i'm at a loss when it comes to the physical appreance. i'm going to refinish the headstock and make my own overlay. but for the body i was thinking maybe TV yellow with a black pickguard or gold with a black pickguard. or maybe just redoing it with a surfy blue/green/pink.

I have been playing bass for like 4 years, I feel like I have stagnated or fallen into a rut. I love bass, but I fell like a worthless piece of shit when I think that I coulda just practiced guitar. How do I stave off suicide?

An invader in the bridge like that might run a little muddy. Since the electronics are clearly mounted to the pickguard, mods would be trivial and you could add a tone circuit if you wanted.

As it stands, the muddiness of the invader (and of an SG's scale length) make it so that forgoing the tone knob is fairly sensible. I'd say that guitar is solidly worth what they're asking.

ive been using biasfx and i kind of like the marshall jcm 800 sim in there coupled with what they call a "tube boost" in front. the sound i have is relatively clean but it has this nice top end sparkle when the amp is just about to go into very slight overdrive. now my question is, the way i understand it the booster just makes my signal louder (but in a clean way without adding distortion, fuzz or whatever) and then obviously depending on the gain setting on the amp it might be enough drive to overdrive it. but shouldn't this be the same thing as just turning the gain knob on my amp up without the booster in front? i mean sure the booster probably adds a little bit of its own coloration, but i tried and the differncet it quite drastic.

Probably a stupid question, but I just find this confusing. So I am learning this acoustic song by tab, and I noticed this. It says 0 on the 6th string, and 2 on the 4 string. I am supposed to be playing both at the same time, right? But how am I supposed to do that, without touching the 5th fret? Does this mean it's only possible to play it with fingers?

Probably using all sorts of overdrive pedals, because that is definitely not how that amp sounds, at all. I think I will soon get myself either a peavey bandit 112, peavey vypyr, or a line 6 spider jam. People tell me all the time how good those 3 amps are . Maybe you should check those out as well. Hybrid makes it easier to get a loud clean sound because the poweramp isn't tube based. That said, modern tube poweramps can be clean as fuck too.

>>
>>66470233
Last resort only or learn to play with it stringed upside down.

The intonation won't be right.
>>
>>66470305

Thanks. I guess I'll just buy a left-handed one. Pretty little choice there though.
>>
>>66470415
Yamaha makes some great steel string acoustics. They have plenty of lefties too, shouldn't be hard to find one in roughly the same price range as that epi hummingbird.
>>
>>66460279
That's a good idea.
>>
>>66464381
Get a stack and you're good to go.
I don't think that stuff is loud enough to pump out all the juicy tones you need to sound huge in a band.
>>
>>66465635
>not using a tone knob
So how's your progressive br000tal slammin deathcoregrind band?
>>
>>66470608
If you got a guitar with cheap electronics, the tone knob goes from ass to slightly less ass. Give him a break.
>>
>>66468642
Find a proper muting technique to make sure the A string is completely silent. (It's hard to do it because it's on the end of the fretboard)
Or you can pick with your strings.
>>
>>66470233
It doesn't work with acoustic guitars, you'll need a new nut and a whole new bridge piece for the intonation to be right.

I just got a 6i6 audio interface. I want to send the Stereo Mix recording from my PC into the 6i6, so I can monitor it while I play my instrument.

Can I do this with just the USB cable between my PC and the 6i6, or do I need to ALSO connect my PC into the 6i6 1/4" input jack? That is pretty fucking gay if I need two cables between my PC and the audio interface.

I got acoustic guitar first, couldn't play it for shit, got tired of it, and wanted an electric. Got the electric, somewhat learned iron man, couldn't play that riff before the solo fast enough ,without making it sound bad, and went back to acoustic. Now I easily learned 2 songs on acoustic in a few minutes. I would honestly say, that you should start with an acoustic, learn single note songs, proper picking and whatnot, and then move on to electric. Although it did feel way easier to play acoustic , after having played electric. The nylon strings felt so easy to press down, when compared to when I started out . So the smartest and easiest choice would probably be acoustic. Acoustic is imo easier. Just don't forget to look up some beginner guides on yt .
>>
>>66474685
you can play open chords on an electric guitar

Ausbro swears by them, I'm very intrigued but still keep using DiMarzios for the price.

If you are in Europe they are a much more attractive option since SDs and DiMarzios are nearly the same price.

Depends on what kind of music you want to play too, Juggernauts are Djent-friendly, Cold Sweats are Air Norton-ish and Holy Diver is a hotrodded JB AFAIK.

Use the bridge pickup.
Try striking at different places along the length of the string.
Always aim to strike with your pick and thumb at the same time (i.e. don't pick and then "dig in" with your thumb)

Too twangy for a jazz fusion sound imo, but any guitar can work if you've got the chops really.

Semi-hollows are the best for fusion . I would either get this (Ibanez AS93) or an Epiphone Sheraton II. Nothing wrong with having an unconventional tone if you do get the gretsch though.

They have a particular sound that some people, including myself, really like.

Depending on where you are price isn't a big deal either. The Axe Palace sells them at reasonable rates in the US, and over here they're barely any more expensive than other brands.

>>66477601
>Ausbro swears by them, I'm very intrigued but still keep using DiMarzios for the price.
I'd probably use Seymour Duncans before DiMarzios but I really dislike that cocked wah quality they seem to have.

Most of my non-BKP pickups are Gibson pickups actually. The 498T and 500T are great. 496R? Not so much.

>Juggernauts are Djent-friendly
If you purely wanted to play djent you'd probably do better with a Painkiller or an Aftermath honestly. The Juggernaut is kind of murky by BKP standards. Another option if you're using a super tight amplifier or an AxeFX is a Holy Diver.

Never been much into them, but a lot of the guitars on Periphery II were Holy Divers and not Aftermaths.

>>66477676
This is the best way to go. Email BKP or The Axe Palace with your setup, your current pickups, what you're going for, what you like and don't like about your current pickups, etc.

Nick at The Axe Palace and Tim at BKP are VERY knowledgeable. Had so-so results speaking to Ben. The BKP forums have some really good resources too.

thankyou based anon! The routa is what I've got my eye on but I'm in the states so I don't think I'll ever see one unless I buy it.

You're probably better off buying an RR24 or an ESP SV Standard from down under.

They feel like decent Yamaha's.
Go for it if it seems like a good deal.

Hey /gg/. /o/ here, I need a little help here.

Earlier today I was going through the attic of a home my wife and I just purchased and we found what looks to be a pretty old guitar up there. Only problem is I have no idea what it is and I can't find anything online about it. The top of it says Marlin&co 1833. I looked around for a model number on it but I could only find what I think is the serial number which reads 72976, maybe that's the model number, I don't know. Have you guys ever heard of this brand? Is it worth anything. Idk how old it is but it looks pretty damn old.
>>
>>66485348
Give us a picture
>>
>>66485348
I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess that it actually says "Martin & Co."
>>
>>66485348
I've never heard of that brand Anon It's probably worthless.

That's a couple of sexy guitars right there.
>>
>>66485348
>>66485412
This. It's definitely a Martin. Most of their headstocks say "est. 1833". Could be worth a decent chunk of change.
>>
>>66485401
I'll take pics tomorrow when I go back, the house isn't in livable condition right now. We bought it to fix it up and sell.
>>66485412
Is that a well known brand? It was written in some old school font. It looks like it was probably a pretty nice guitar at one point. It has kind of a mother of pearl outline around the whole front of it and some nice designs in the part where you put your fingers to play notes.
>>
>>66485477
Do you know if there's any way to decode the serial number to find out what it is and how old it is? I take it that Martin is a pretty well known brand?

If this is not b8, Martin is one of the most famous and prestigious guitar manufacturers in the world. Depending on the model and year (as in, if it's a pre-war D-45 in great condition, for example), it could be worth more than your house or at least the price of a high-end car. Could also just be worth a couple~few thousand bucks.

Take this as the equivalent of finding a Ferrari 250 GT California in your garage.
>>
just got my vbt back from the shop with new seymours (black winter bridge) installed. its gonna sound hella sick cant wait to plug it in
>>
>>66485759
It's most likely b8, tho. Like the anon who said he had bought a mint '59 Les Paul for $4k some time ago and when finally pressed after vague answers, he posted some pictures of what was just a ~80s Les Paul Standard.
>>
>>66485759
Yeah that's about what it looked like, not in as good of condition though, it's pretty scuffed up and part of that red bit by the hole is missing on the one we found. It's probably still playable though.
>>66485765
>more than my house
U wot. Seriously? Yeah I'll take some pics while I'm out there tomorrow for you guys to take a look at.
>>
>>66485867
M8 if you're serious that's a fucking 1939 000-42. One of those fucking things sold a while back for like $800,000 or some wild shit like that. If this isn't b8 you just stumbled upon a literal fortune.
>>
>>66485867
It varies by A LOT. This could be a fake copy worth $300, this could be a 60s~80s worth a couple~few thousands, this could also be a high-end pre-war model worth a couple hundred thousands.

Here's a 1940 Martin 000-18 going for $13k right now. This is the most basic model, with no fancy inlays whatsoever: http://www.chicagomusicexchange.com/products/martin-000-18-1940

Here's a list of pre-war D-45 Martins (which are the ones with the fancy mother of pearl binding and inlays, as you say is yours) and their respective sold prices. Bear in mind this particular one is likely the holy grail of vintage guitars in the world. Sold prices range from $110k to $350k: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_original_(pre-war)_Martin_D-45s

I still don't know if you're trolling because if you indeed have a D-45 with a 72976, THAT IS a pre-war serial number and IT IS worth A LOT.

Fuuuuuuuuccccckkkk I'm sure that one had something super special about it though. There's no way the one I was looking at earlier is worth that much.
>>66485987
It looks more like the 1st one you linked except it has the mother of pearl outline and shapes in the playing part of the guitar pretty much like >>66485759

Like I said I'll post pics tomorrow morning and post them here for you.
>>
>>66486041
Stratocaster is a good meme.
>>
>>66485940
72976 is definitely a 1939, body mother of pearl binding and fancy inlays indicate a high-end model. I truly hope this guy isn't fucking with us because I'd be actually happy to see someone on /gg/ stumble across a fortune like that.

>>66486093
Like I said, if it's real, it's a pre-war model, 100% sure just based on the serial number. If it has mother of pearl inlays and binding, IT IS worth a lot because it is a high-end model. Don't even wipe it down or even touch it if you can avoid. Post the pictures here please but if what you say so far is correct, you'll need to have this authenticated by Martin (initially through email and possibly in person in Nazareth, PA).

Just take it out of any humid environment and keep it inside the case and out of heat/sunlight etc.
>>
>>66486093
>It looks more like the 1st one you linked except it has the mother of pearl outline and shapes in the playing part of the guitar
Also, based on the shape, that would indicate a D-45 (a dreadnought, highest-end model).

It's a $100k~$350k guitar, depending on condition.

Actually, nevermind, I linked a 000, my bad. So if you're correct regarding shape, it's not actually a D-45, I apologize.

If it's a 000-42 (which would be pic related) and has some rough marks, as you said, it's still worth near $70k~150k.

This is where you made a fatal mistake, Anon.
If you knew nothing about the guitar brand or guitar how did you know this terminology?
This poster is bait as no one who would know nothing about Martin guitars would call it "mother of pearl".
>>
>>66486165
Damn, that's only like an hour away from me down 611. It's sitting in a case up there right now, I'll take the pics tomorrow and then close the case back up and get in contact with them.

Seriously thanks for the info, I would have never known. You think it'll go for all that much even all scuffed up and shit? Like I said I'm sure you could still play it but it definitely looks it's age.

Mother of pearl is just a material used in a lot of different decorative things. It's very well known to those outside of the guitar community.

Hey, thanks man! 74 LPC and 69 SG Std. Love 'em both a lot. Trying to get my collection of stuff down to things I won't ever sell, and these two are certainly that kinda stuff.

Nice Tweedy SG! Played one at CME a year or so ago, I dug the neck a lot.

Pic is a factory black 1969 SG that I saw at the store when picking up the LP. Badass stuff!

No one would come to /gg/ specifically asking for information on a rare guitar while using that term. They would go to reddit.
Face it Anon, I know your game.
>>
>>66486299
>You think it'll go for all that much even all scuffed up and shit?
I don't even know the model yet and if it's indeed an original and not a copy. I definitely can't tell you anything with certainty. It could be barely worth anything but could also be worth a lot. Yeah, wear takes away from value, but a 42~45 pre-war model is still highly sought after and valuable, despite of condition (unless it's beaten to shit and unplayable).

Anyway, I still believe you're a troll fucking with us. Sorry, it happens a lot and I won't respond further without pictures. If it's true, though, congratulations, you might have won the lottery (or at least a few thousand dollars).
>>
>>66486494
I'm not even the guy, I don't believe him either but it's not like mother of pearl is some guitar only material.

Thanks man. I think the neck looks beautiful and feels great on the Tweedy. A good Les Paul is on my short list. I always love a good SG though.
>>
>>66486537
Definitely not guitar only. I don't know, I could see how someone could mistake Martin by Marlin since the old school font 't' is pretty subtle and he did say 'outline' instead of binding and 'nice design where you put your fingers' instead of 'inlays', which gives him some credibility. But then again, this is 4chan.

If he's a troll, he's a good one. I just want to believe. Finds like these make me happy, even if tomorrow I find out it was a troll or a fake model.

Yeah, same here. SG's are great. Next purchase for me is either a totally beat 60's SG so I can baby the one I've got, or a 90's LP Standard, as I do want a Standard now, too. Found out I'm a Gibson person in the last year or so.

Also, as a side note, want me a Science amp. Probably before any other guitars. Has anyone played through one? What I've heard about them is all good
>>
>>66486537
>>66486553
I kind of see that anons point though. no one really calls mother of pearl "mother of pearl" they usually call it pearl or if they really were asking about it they'd say it looks like pearl.
>>
>>66486613
I'm with you. The fact that he called the pickguard "that red bit by the hole" gives me some hope that this might be real. Either that or this is just some grade-A b8.
>>
>>66486705
>>66486752
Also, he did say 'mother of pearl outline' and vintage high-end Martins with binding have abalone, which is a word much less common for people outside of the guitar world. Mother-of-pearl is only used on the inlays and he made no distinction of the two.

Confusing abalone with mother of pearl adds to the credibility, imo.
>>
Want to get some pedals, but don't want to spend lots of money.
Was looking at joyo pedals, all of which seem to fall just under 30$ a piece. Are they any good? Would I end up wanting to upgrade anyways?
>>
>>66486789
On the other hand, if somebody had just told me I might have a guitar worth $300k laying around on a damp basement of some shitty old house I just bought, no matter how late of the night it is, I would definitely instantly rush the fuck out to grab it and take some pictures and store it, not 'wait until tomorrow'.
>>
>>66486752
>>66486789
It's really suspicious though, I mean he's made way to many mistakes like that and if anything it takes away credibility.
>>
>>66486874
Meh, that thing has probably been up there for years, if not decades. One more night isn't going to ruin it. I would probably have a hard time sleeping tonight if I were him though.

Anyone have any experience with the high end indonesian Jackson pro series?

>I would probably have a hard time sleeping tonight if I were him though.
That's the whole point. You find out you might have $300k on the basement of a shitty house you just bought and you don't instantly go there to retrieve it and instead wait for the next day?

I don't buy it.

What you do is go to a guitar store, try all their amps and go to craigslist afterwards and try to find it there.
