It's the end of the world as we know it (and I feel fine)!

Listen to your library, show off your backlog, babble about new music, tell us what you've been listening to today and what you will listen to in the following month, pity Jangle's Thrift Tourney, listen to Keiji Haino scream, and just let the good times flow.

guys STOP having good taste

Neil Ardley - A Symphony of Amaranths (1972)
>third stream

That first track is absolutely out of this world in every single way. An entire a-side of the most immaculately composed, bombastic, straight-up beautiful jazz music I've ever heard in my entire life. The b-side, however, is just a massive drop in quality, at least to me. It's nice enough, and I like Ivor Cutler's spoken word, but it doesn't even hold a candle to that immaculate a-side. It's just kinda bland.

bathory's blood fire death seems just like more of the s/t debut, but without the lo-fi charm. the intro was also muuuuuch less cool than that from s/t.

ulver was much more placid and dulling than I expected. I don't think atmospheric metal is for me.

zappa's absolutely free was great, i'll probably enjoy it again sometime in the not-too-distant future.

daikanjyo had a few bits that I found rather agreeable, but mostly bored me with it's meandering (but by no means unskilled) path. I think the drummer was my favorite of the trio.

Xiu Xiu - Plays the Music of Twin Peaks (2016)
>experimental rock, art rock

Overblown as hell, and the more droney bits don't do anything for me, but overall this does do a nice job at modernizing Badalamenti's original score for Twin Peaks and making it more sinister and disturbed. The version of "Falling" here is exceptional, but then there are tracks that are just too far up their own ass, which I guess is a problem with a lot of Xiu Xiu's work. Overall I do have to say I enjoyed it, and it does it's job well.

2.5+

Return to Forever - Romantic Warrior (1976)
>jazz fusion, jazz-rock

This is so fucking goofy, oh my god. It's almost lovable, but the way that this just exceptionally goofy sounding music is balanced with the extreme wank of its instrumentals is just...baffling, to say the least. It's got a few things that I like, the drumming is exceptional and "The Magician" is honestly a great song, but this is just too goofy and wanky for my tastes. Still /slightly/ enjoyable as a whole.

The 10 reviews here are always compelling. Kerr gave

OK, so it is 8 CDs of Jelly Roll Morton and some of his contemporaries (CD8 only) talking about the basis of the New Orleans jazz composing. Jelly Roll explains the inspirations behind his compositions, talks about what pieces he heard in what dollhouses and plays them all. The 1938 recordings get progressively darker with very obscene compositions on disc 5 and 6. Disc 7 features Jelly playing some guitar in a similar style inspired by dixieland with occasional country blues motifs. It actually reminded me of John Fahey a lot.

The final CD is recollection of Morton’s contemporaries who give a background on what it was like to perform jazz in the early days, the racial barriers, the locations they played in. Occasional pieces are played.

Overall I think this is a legendary historical document that reveals a lot about the birth of jazz composition and arrangements. Morton always keeps it interesting by adding on stories from his life and a break-down of the compositions right as he plays them. The guy talks a lot. I’ll give this a 9 because it not only features great compositions that slowly abandon the ragtime influences on the piano playing, but also stress on how important classical arrangements and the life situations of Jelly Roll Morton were for his music. Definitely check this out.

I will agree I was being retarded, but c'mon. You're being pretty dillusional if you think any of the reactionary stuff people say (e.g. the reactions to giving a 6 to an album) is "discussion" that's pretty delusional on your part. I still hold that to some extent people for some reason give legitimacy to my opinion, which is ill-informed one, which the whole point of my post wasn't to be over-inflammatory, but to show that the reactionary shit in general is dumb, though I conveyed very poorly.

Also, if you're saying that in general I'm the one getting mad at people for disliking my shit ratings, that's clearly not the case, though I could see the argument for that specific moment, yes.

Remember New Order?

There is a difference between having shit taste and saying random dumb shit. I don't know what made people get mad at you in the last thread but you have a record on that. For instance, you said the Hawaii pt2 album sounded like fucking Owl City. And here is where i get mad. Because it seems like you don't even listen to the albums or just say inflamatory shit for the sake of being inflamatory. If i really like an album, then it means that i find there to plenty of good aspects about, and maybe some bad ones. If you went and said that the bad things about an album overshadow (in your opinion) the good things then i won't have a problem. But for you to say some stupid fucking senseless and even baseless shit just leaves me fucking baffled. Do you wonder, for instance, why when most other /daily/ users when they rate popular albums low scores no one gives a shit? That's Because you can tell in their reviews where do they come from and why do they spout their opinions. But you, Tuco and Jangle just seem to always say the most inflamatory and retarded shit just for the sake of being retarded and inflamatory. In short, i don't give a single fuck if you like or not my favorite album, the thing is you need to fucking read what you write and say "is this correct? Is this seriously my opinion on the album and not some random shit so i can get /daily/ mad" so you don't have any more problems

This album was really awesome until it wasn't. One of my biggest complaints about free jazz (and this is probably a pleb opinion) is that there is no constant rhythm keeping time while everyone else's playing goes crazy. This album has a steady groove going throughout the whole first song and half of the second song that is built off of with off the wall free jazz stuff while still staying cohesive. I looked it up and there are 4 bass players on this album and you can really feel their power. The bass line on the first song is great. The vocals are somewhat of a hit or miss for me and i thought the singers voices were much better singing in the higher registers. All this goes out the window though around 30 minutes in when all the instruments cut out and a dog starts growling out of nowhere. Then there are just random vocal strings out of nowhere and everyone comes back in just playing chaos for 10 minutes. It completely killed the vibe for me and i think it detracted from the cool stuff they were doing previously. blue triangle/10

One more thing: I've never gotten what "I don't understand your music taste" even means, especially since so many people say it (people have also said it about trips like Yamir and others iirc) but I can't make any sense of it at all. Is it just because I disliked a few albums you do? Pretty petty if this is the case.

Are you asking about common ground between music I enjoy? Does everyone have this? Do you? Is it looked down upon unless you're a gimmick? Though this isn't universal and very broad: my most favoritist music is usually just stuff that tends to have a unifying element, have some genuine feeling of passion/emotion. I tend to find a lot of pleasure from crescendos and dynamics in said passionate/emotional moments.I have a soft spot for post-punk (and punk in general), weebshit, anything that underneath has pop elements while still maintaining originality. Like I said, very broad, but I think you should at least slightly get the point.

Tell me how your music taste works. Not being condescending, I'm genuinely wondering what you mean by this.

>>66391631
I hope you don't think I go out of my way to dislike things to be inflammatory. The reason I don't go in depth is not only because I'm an illiterate fuck, but also that at the time I was listening to a shit ton of music throughout the day, and writing paragraph after paragraph for each review got very tedious after time, so I stopped and didn't write anything, but then people would start claiming I should keep writing reviews, but was so worn out by them it became pointless. So I stuck to short blurbs because just because it was easier than 7-10 paragraphs a day.

And I really hope you don't hold a grudge for me saying that stupid shit about that one album.

And I can see justification calling me inflammatory, but don't drag Jangle and Tuco into this just because they don't like an album or two you don't. I don't even really see that element like you do in them. They at least write reviews.
>>
>>66391631

When people say they don't get your taste is because sometimes you don't seem to like a certain kind of music. It's like i read your reviews and i don't get what stuff you like.
Second, i don't hold a grudge, i used it as an example, and probably a lot of people might come up with some better ones. And i'm not dragging the., It's just that the 3 of you sometimes say stuff that doesn't make sense
>>66391836
The thing is i just can't see it. I don't get mad at people calling albums i like shit, or comparing them to blatantly shit bands. But i don't get the comparison . In fact, i like Port Blue, and i liked some Owl City songs. But i cannot by the love of god understand why he thinks they are in anyway similar. I just don't see it. And it makes me think that Fish sometimes doesn't Really listen to the albums. I'm probably wrong but that's what some of his posts make me believe
>>66391868
It's not The album, itd the comparison what made me mad. Its just an example.

I've never gone out of my way to dislike something because of how I felt OTHERS have felt about it. Every opinion I have on here, RYM, or real life I believe to be genuinely my own. Even if I have been skimming out on reviews for the past months I would like to think the opinions of others have no stake in what I think about an album.

Also, I think it's pretty unfair to call me "inflammatory". I have a pretty safe (and I guess in your opinion, undefinable) taste that very rarely every deviates more than three full points from the general consensus. I have probably "panned" less than a handful of /daily/-loved albums, and most of my favorites are pretty much entirely RYM/mu/daily/poseurcore albums. I think calling me purposely inflammatory

What happened is that I wrote a shitty review of an album you like. I guess I'll try in the future to be less pseudo-witty with my reviews, try to write somewhat longer, more in-depth reviews (which should be easier now that I've slowed down a great deal), and guarantee I will be as genuine as possible with them, but I can't really promise that I won't piss you off so much again. And I'm sorry if it seems I did it to hurt you or anyone else here. I probably sound like a faglord but I genuinely kinda like and care about you guys. That may seem retarded but it's GENUINELY (I'm getting sick of typing that word) how I feel.

I would like you and the rest of /daily/ to think about this one question (though I won't see it for a while if you actually answer it): Would you rather have people lie and like everything you do, or would you rather have people tell the truth that might cause conflict or seem inflammatory?

Or even beyond that: Would you rather live in a /daily/ where people just agree with everything you do? Isn't some element of chaos/disagreement needed for proper discussion?

Idk if even half of this was coherent because I haven't slept in more than a day, but that's all.

Night!

i mean it's a good point if you break down all of the stuff hawaii does that is directly intended to subvert typical pop sounds like owl city, but you're post was moreso about how he's not allowed to make humorous short reviews that summarize his take on an album. it's lame off the bat to tell someone how they can review something, but there's also the prospect of how you could..you know...ignore him?
if he for whatever reason makes you mad to the point of paragraph long anger, you would likely find 4chan's fucking filter option a valid resource.
you control what you see and what you react to. if you feel the need to debate about a singular review posted 2 threads ago, go ahead. however, you can't just start shit with a person because you don't like their reviewing format or rating system. if you feel it was unfair, try and start a debate in a way that doesn't make him actively not want to discuss with you.
jesus dude i really hope you're at least half faking at this point.

is unfair, especially when the guidelines for a "pan" for most here is just saying something is average or just below/above it (a score, at least on my scale that's a 4, 5, or 6 is hardly a pan, but is often seen as one when it's usually just some level of disinterest).

Alrighty then

The first thing I like about this movie is how well it's held up over time. This was 1971 but it shows no intense sign of being old as hell.

The whole choreography of the movie is also wonderful. With the intricate backgrounds and the clever shots, it's a directors wet dream.

Story is clever and intertwining with pretty deep messages about human nature and government involvement in things.

Above all, it also has one hell of a soundtrack that fits perfectly with the movie.

To be honest, I liked the movie a lot more after a second rewatch as well.

Aside of that, in a very lame, pleb vision, i just think that Kubrick's films have asuch a special vibe to them. There is just some kind of brilliance that is evident in every single scene. You can tell how masterfully crafted they are. Kind of hypnotic. Besides, the story is highly interesting (IMO) and i just love how it makes a statement that is very polemic without spoonfeeding you about what is right or wrong, but let's you think about it. For instance, the brainwashing is unforgivable, but so were Alex's crimes. I guess that in a way, it didn't make an afirmation, but a question about the methods to eliminate crime. Really good

Kubrick nails visual storytelling, I agree. He knows how to communicate a scene with so many layers of information in a way that's both easy to understand, and visually engaging.

Also the question of whether a person can change at all. They technically 'cured' Alex's lust for crime by making him physically repulsed by what he once did, but the last scene of the movie suggests that at his core, he hasn't changed at all. He only knows not to do what is wrong based on the reinforcement he's been given, but not why it is actually wrong. That whole commentary on corporal punishment can probably be credited more to the book, but Kubrick translates it perfectly to the screen.

Jesus lord just a bit of fish frying and the whole thread goes haywire.
Can´t complain much, made for an entertaining morning read, a bit over dramatical maybe.

>>66390543
that actually sounds great, I love hearing musicians explain their reasoning behind the music. I wasn´t interested in the thing but now I might ge it.

Brian Eno - Taking Tiger Mountain (By Tactics)
When Brian Eno produces a good pop song he goes fucking hard at it
having listened to all of his pop stuff now, I have to say that this is my least favorite of the bunch, it's not bad though... It starts off really strong, then peters out towards the middle, the last track is really great
Overall I think this album would have been better if he committed fully to producing straight pop instead of having all of these a v a n t flourishes in the songs

Bumhole Surfers - Rembrandt Pussyhorse
Yeah I mean, it was a pretty good album, didn't really dig it as much as Locust Abortion Technician.. the drumming was pretty consistently great
ultimately however, I don't think this grabbed my attenion in any significant way (apart from on Whirling Hall of Knives and Mark Says Alright, which are the best tracks on the album) or did enough to warrant a higher score

Magical Mystery Tour next, then Double Heads, then what?

>>66396210
Atapor - Masturbate in Praise of Black Satan
>>
>>66396339
Don't underestimate Double Heads, that'll keep you occupied for about 5 hours

where was fish even replying to you other than saying "oh shit I got roasted!"?

It seems like he was done with you long ago, Shamepai went full Shamepai, and Fish gave him bantz. You could argue he was still angsty from that but it didn't seem so. You think you're special because you shat on Fish? Shit's a daily tradition. Your not special and giving yourself far too much credit, faggot.
