Hello /gg

I have about £750 to £800 for a new guitar and would like a 24-3/4" Arch-top

Could you advise me or what would you buy if it was you?
>>
whats the widest neck baritone I can get? I prefer classical guitar necks but i want an electric baritone for a band, the music is rather mellow so a metal looking guitar isn't prefrable

He played Riverias and Sheratons and got his own signature (haven't seen him play it much), and had a custom Riviera made in the 90's. There's a Ltd Ed. Can anybody figure the chords/ tabs of "Exhale" by Rarity out for me please?
>>
I'm wondering about the possibilities of converting right handed guitars into lefty ones, being a leftyfag myself, since I recently decided on a "dream guitar to end my search for guitars" and lo and behold, it only comes in right handed models, like most good ones. Would something like that be possible/viable, and how would you go about it? I assume I couldn't just ask the manufacturer to make me a lefty model without first becoming a world famous guitarist and having them offer me a signature guitar, so that's out. Would an experienced luthier be able to do something like that?
>>
>>66352924
p. good, was a little slide heavy for my liking. would also explore arpeggios a bit more since it seemed like you were going back up and down the scale and it would be nice to have a little variation
>>
>>66354356
string it backwards

Or just learn to play righthanded.
>>
>>66354403
Fuck that righthanded playing shit, it feels unnatural and uncomfortable as hell, plus I'd basically have to learn the guitar all over again.

Restringing isn't an option, because the knobs and the cable socket are in such positions that they would interfere with my arm, making it highly uncomfortable to play.
>>

Oh man sorry.

>>66354592
YouTube, search for Polka Dots and Moonbeans backing track.
>>
>>66354618
Oh shit, I thought this was the Bangalore wool knitting BBS, my bad.

Aside from that, I reckon it should be possible to move the switches/knobs/cable sockets around, yeah? I mean, the guitar's body is a lump of wood with holes in it, how hard could it be to add a few more in and patch up the old ones? I was hoping that maybe someone here has tried doing something like that and could share their experience.
>>
>>66354668
>Oh man sorry.
Don't apologize, you're half way there
>>
>>66354717

I wonder how long it would take to get decent, it's pretty hard to play jazz.
>>
>>66354762
you are decent if you were the Op on the clip,

a lot of it depends on magic
>>
>>66354783

yes i'm op. i want to join the college jazz band, but i don't even think i'm good enough.
>>
>>66354675
Well with a hollow/semi hollowbody like a Gibson ES etc. it would probably be relatively easy. Might be weird to fill the old holes, but it should be much easier then doing it with an average Fender style where the entire guitar is backwards. I think Tony Iommi has a reversed SG. I've definitely seen it done, but I can't remember who it was.

TL;DR it's possible, but it might require alot of bog filler and re-routing. Not sure if any given luthier will take it on.
>>
>>66354901
you are definitely good enough
>>
>>66354917
Yeah, you want a symmetrical guitar.

Although a fender strat would be fun just to get the Hendrix sound out of it.
>>
>>66354951

>>
>>66354296
I mean its not much - quite unorganized
>>
>>66354917
>>66354999
The guitar I'm thinking of is an Explorer, and while it's not exactly symmetrical, the body shape seems like should work upside down, as long as the knobs are moved to the other side and the cable socket is lowered somewhat. But yeah, doing some research it seems that it would be nearly impossible to find an actual luthier who'd do something like that, as all luthiers that are good enough to pull off something like that would seemingly sooner build you an inverse guitar from scratch rather than customize an existing one.

Also, didn't Fender actually release a reversed strat so that right handers could get that Hendrix sound? I'm pretty sure I read someplace about that.
>>
>>66356552
honestly dude, an upside down guitar doesn't look like a right side up guitar. Why do you need an explorer specifically? It's just like every other HH guitar. Just get something you like that does exist in lefty and work with that.

I really mean it. I think it looks good, if sorta weird because I'm not used to seeing it upside down. The only problem with that particular guitar is the color scheme, which is atrocious, but I legitimately dig the design.

Then again, I still can't understand the logic behind guitars having thin strings on the bottom and thick ones on the top, when the natural order of most things goes from a wide/thick foundation to a narrow/thin top, so maybe it's just me.
>>
>>66356931

>>
Ike Turner was a great guitarist but Jesus Christ was he a terrible person. Read up on how he treated Tina Turner.
>>
>>66357028
Yeah, I know how it sounds, but think about it. You don't see mountains start out thin and get thicker as they go up, do you? And when you stack something, you naturally put the heavy/wide shit on the bottom and the lighter/narrow stuff on top. Same thing with guitar strings. It just seems to me that it would make more sense to have the heavy, thick strings at the bottom, where you also have more finger strength to leverage, and the thin stuff on top, where you have less strength to push down on them. But hey, maybe it's just me being retarded, I don't know. The fact remains that the upside down Explorer looks cool, and now I'm actually thinking how come nobody has ever tried playing the guitar upside down without restringing it. I bet you could find some fun chords and scales that way.

>>66357151
I can't remember who, but I swear I remember hearing a story about some guitarist who was left handed and just played a right handed guitar without re-stringing -- so the low strings were at the bottom and the high strings were up top.

I feel like you're bound to run into some chord shapes that are just physically impossible for your hand to make with the strings reversed though.
>>

>>66357379
Makes sense when you think about it. He's mostly known for playing single notes really quick, and you can have your stings in any order for that. And he also does it with 16 - 58 strings, too. Dude's crazy.

Decided to straighten the poles of my Custom Shop '69 pickups, which are staggered. Everything went fine until I fucked up the neck pickup and probably broke a copper wire inside, dead pickup. Fuck.

Anyway, decided to list and sell the two remaining ones because my OCD can't live without a complete set and went back to the stock SCN (Samarium Cobalt Noiseless) ones. I'll be damned if these things don't sound a lot nicer than I remembered them.

They don't nail that vintage strat quack tone for sure but that's never what I used anyway, I grew to think the vintage strat/quack tone is too specific and can get old and annoying unless you're playing too much Mark Knopfler stuff. With the CS69 I was 95% of the time on the neck pickup with the tone rolled slightly down.

The SCN basically introduced me to a more varied range of more neutral sounding 'singlecoils' that are more versatile in the end, even if they don't scream "strat!" in your face. Even though they still get a lot of hate, I think I'll keep them.

yo what kind of acoustic guitar should i get

budget's $500, i like the sound of dreadnoughts like the yamaha FG730S but can't decide whether it would be more practical to get an acoustic-electric in case i want to perform someday
>>
>>66362824

Check out Seagull. There's this one model that runs about $325 and it's excellent. I don't think it's an acoustic-electric but you can get a decent soundhole pickup for around 50 bucks.
>>
Which is better for a straight-ahead jazz amp?
Fender '65 Princeton Reissue
Supro Tremo-Verb Reissue
>>
>>66362936
I would go for the Princeton Reissue if you're dead set on a tube amp.

But if you're willing to go solid state, you can't beat the Roland Jazz Chorus.
>>
>>66362898
I'm a beginner and didn't even realize soundhole pickups existed - maybe I'll just get the yamaha and a pickup then.
>>
>>66361765
How much did yours cost? You recommend it to a beginner?
>>
>>66363136

They're a great option as long as you don't mind the look. My guitar player uses one of these: http://www.seymourduncan.com/acoustic/woody-single-coil
It sounds great, I have a Martin 12 string that's acoustic electric and the soundhole pickup sounds just as good as the built in system in my Martin.
>>
>>66363267
I think I got it $500 new. Though now I know buying new is for suckers. Look around the used market, I've seen em go for as low as 300. I'd recommend it for a beginner if you're sure you're going to stick with it. Floating tremolos are a bit of a bitch to set up right when you're a beginner, but I think the PRS SE ones are relatively ok.
>>
>>66363554
I didn't even realize they all have tremolo system. Ree! Yours looks nice tho!
>>
Vox AC15C1

Yay or nay?
>>
>>66363843

If you like staying real clean it's great. It won't get too dirty at lower volumes, so you'll have to use pedals or crank it if you want to get distortion. You can push the power tubes quite a bit on the top boost channel. The tremolo and reverb are quite nice too. I personally prefer it to Fender amps for an amp that has a really good, crisp clean sound.
>>
>>66363835
Just the 24 does, though the 22's bridge doesn't have the intonation adjustable for each string, so I wouldn't recommend that. Also thank you, I'm pretty happy with it. The wide thin neck feels great, and a few years later I still don't really regret the gaudy look. I got mine when I had only been playing 4 months, so it's not like I wouldn't recommend it to a beginner because of the floating tremolo, just be aware it's not the most simple thing to set up. It's not hard though.
>>
Anyone have any suggestions for smooth overdrives for bass? I'm not really looking for something that's too fuzzy. I have a fuzz on my board, and I like that sound but I need something more smooth and rounded. I'm sort of at a loss because it seems like a lot of pedals tailored for bass lean more towards the side of fuzz, which I already have on my board.

Kind of like this sort of sound:

They are lined fretless basses, you can tell this is one due to the lack of Fret dots on the fingerboard. Besides that the frets don't shine, which again shows its a lined fretless.

I'm trying to figure out how to wire up a push-pull for the volume option I want.

It's a Tele-type wiring: Two pickups, master volume (tone control is irrelevant to this circuit).

Stock is both pickups -> Switch inputs -> Volume -> Jack.

What I want is to switch between stock and an independent volume for the neck pickup, so it looks more like: Neck pickup -> Volume -> Switch input -> Jack, while Bridge pickup - > Switch input -> Jack.

For the life of me I can't figure it out and I'm starting to think it's impossible.

The closest thing I can think of is the blower switch, which bypasses the bridge pickup straight to the jack, but I don't want to do that. I just want to remove the bridge pickup from the volume pot when the switch is activated.

Any ideas?

I have to make an eight string guitar suck less because reasons. It came with a pair of flubby chinese humbuckers so those are first to go while I get the frets leveled.

What's the least painful current set of pickups for these meme machines? I'm thinking either Pegasus/Sentient or D-Activator sets, but it's hard to get a feel for either from demos.

Peg/Sent seems to be really full and cut well through demo mixes, but it also sounds all fizzy in the upper mids. Lot of unpleasant noise on the pick attack. But maybe that's because all the demos are by the sort of people who get hard listening to Keith Merrow and name their songs shit like AKHLUT THE DEVOURER.

D-activators were at least used in a bunch of thash and power metal albums that didn't suck, but none of them were tuned this low. Does that shit get gross on a low F? It sure seems like people avoid these pickups enough as is, so while I'm happy with everything I hear, I also wonder if there's some landmine in the low end that made ERG nerds dodge these.
>>
>>66366878
Eastman are not copys. They are genuinely good quality hand made all wood guitars of great quality, and just happens that the company is Chinese (not abroad company that went there to get a cheap product line). I got an ac422ce and is at least equal (i think normally better) quality than the martins and Taylor of the sligthly higher price. It is 100 % wood, while the taylor martin have just the top board of the body wood and the rest a combination of part wood and a polymer.
>>
>>66366131
Those guitars are GOAT for that price level.

>>66367384
Lower output pickups tend to work better on ERGs in my experience. Try something like a Bareknuckle Emerald.

If you need high output my go-to would be a Lundgren M8 or a BKP Painkliller. Possible a BKP Aftermath if you prefer a dryer, flatter (EQ-wise) pickup.

Eight string Emerald bridge would be about $170 US. Most of the SDs will cost $135-155 depending on which mount you need.

As far as SDs go I'd probably base it more around what amplifier you're using. The Pegasus is nice but if your setup isn't particularly tight it could flub out. A Nazgul might be better options in that situation.

Might be worth looking at Distortions too but they're pretty crazy as far as output goes and are fizzier than Nazgul but it'll hit the front end of your amplifier a bit harder if you need the extra trim.

The other issue with BKPs is that this is going to happen SOON. I can't buy ones that aren't in stock with a U.S. dealer right now. Otherwise I'd be buying some proper keeper stuff for my regular instruments.

Amplifier is a non-issue. Axe FX. Good enough for government work.
>>
>>66367860
Give Nick at The Axe Palace a buzz and see what he has in stock. Any of the ones I mentioned above would work.

>AxeFX
Yeah I'd probably go Pegasus then unless you particularly want that ceramic pick attack--in which case Nazgul. You don't really need the super output of the Distortion considering you can just turn the input trim up slightly in the I/O menu anyway.

You can take the fizz out easy enough with a PEQ block set to blocking at 8kHz or so.

If a Drive block doesn't get you tight enough just swap to the FAS Brootalz sim. That's an SLO100 front end with a Savage back end. Probably one of the tightest models in the thing.
>>
>>66367962
>unless you particularly want that ceramic pick attack--in which case Nazgul.
Is there a reason you wouldn't suggest D's for ceramic options?
>>
>>66362183
true that, especially if you keep trading/selling up
>>
>>66368164
Personal preference mainly.

I don't like the midrange/uppermid quality pretty much all DiMarzio ceramic pickups have. They always sound like I've got a cocked wah on or something.

I really like some of the BKP offerings and SD seem to be trying to copy them for the most part recently.

>>
>>66368191
See, and I don't dig BKP much for low stuff. Part of my reluctance with the Pegasus/Nazgul is them seeming a lot like the Aftermath/Painkiller/C-bomb, and when people first started importing those in the late 2000s in that big BROOTZ movement the midrange on a low note always pissed me the fuck off. You'd hear an F1 and it'd sound like a dude yelling into a Metalzone as heard on the other end of a tin tube.

I've had great success with their alnico stuff, clean, in extended range and baritone guitars, but then you run into the opposite problem of needing a lot of corrective EQ to unfuck the bass. At least, with the models I've used. I've never played anything with an Emerald in it.
>>
>>66367314
I think you need 3 poles. Ask guitarnutz2
>>
>>66358048

>>
>>66368492
I never liked how the Aftermaths low-mids sound, but the Painkiller is great for it. C-Bomb is a so-so pickup. I get why people love it, but it's not for me.

I pretty much only use Painkillers and Holy Divers now. Holy Divers work brilliantly in sevens, but not sure how they'd go in eight strings.

Emerald works well because it's fairly neutral sounding and lowish output. You can run more boost/input trim and the sound is really nice and even on an ERG.
