It's lewdness time.

Listen to your library, show off your backlog, babble about new music, tell us what you have been listening to today and what you will listen to in the following month, pity Jangle's Thrift Tourney, listen to Keiji Haino scream, and just let the good times flow.

All set for the finals!

P.S. I changed Anonymousé's score for Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan's piece from 9 to 10, because it's an honest to god masterpiece. The more I listen to it, the more enjoyable and beyond incredible it gets, and it is definitely going to become one of my favorite albums.

Good Afternoon /daily/!

I'm back in Riga after all the celebrations. Now I have 1 week in here and 2 weeks in France, so that's neat.

I have some new cool shit I got like f.e. the new Gero tape but I need to find what to listen it on. I'll rip it too I guess.

Nice OP meme too. Too bad I am that loser who missed the Boiler Room stream after telling everyone about it.

Ornette Coleman - The Shape of Jazz to Come
so there's a huge amount going on here
I liked the form that the songs took, that of there being a bit of an introductory phrase, then free-improv for the most part of the song, then a refrain, that was cool
the free improvisational parts never feel like wank to me, and I think that it's pretty amazing how clear in vision all 4 of the instruments are

just get a list of albums you want to listen to, preferably on a regular day basis cause this is what the original idea was. Be creative. Find some book that goes along with some musical recordings or something, listen to music attentively, research what you listen to. That's all I can recommend.

This chart is shaping up really well

Fela Kuti - Expensive Shit
funky as fuck man, really dig this
It's so infectious and happy, just makes me want to vibe

Scott Walker - Scott 3
His voice is the best I've heard it on here, got this kind of swingy vibe to it, like frank sinatra
genuinely feelsy lyrics on here too, It's Raining Today is very nice in particular
it still retains some of it's a v a n t sensibilities, some of the arrangements are still very complex (It's Raining Today, again, has this drone underneath it all undercutting the relatively comfortable vocals and guitars with an eerieness)
yeah, liked it

hot spicy onion right off the stove

Bon Iver - For Emma, Forever Ago
I must admit, Skinny Love and the song that follows are kind of nice
However, and it is a big However, this album is beyond shit, like I'm supposed to praise him because he uses a steel guitar and sings like he's got a ruptured testicle, fuck off, like this dude went off into buttfuck nowhere somewhere and recorded this and I'm supposed to like it, it's pretentious as fuck
this is some weird hybrid between fuccboi sellout trash and contemporary """""""""DEEP"""""""""" folk
It is painfully obvious who the target audience is, not me, but the fact that it even has one is enough for me to happily pan the shit out of it

despite not talking about the music, I did actually listen to it, made me mad

Some considerations on:
>Zeit - Un giorno in una piazza del Mediterraneo
>Progressive Folk, Italian Folk Music

Hugely late for the time of its release, this album still manages to deliver some good folk jams. Much alike the Third Ear Band, Zeit use their mastery of the instruments and the deep connaissance of the local traditions to craft tunes that smell of saltiness, fresh fish and sand. There are loose, jazzy moments, tight folk pieces and psychedelic cavalcades through the dunes of the near Algeria and its charming arabesques. I can see how the scent could not appeal to everyone, though.

If you're looking for a specific book but don't have the Cyrillic keyboard available / don't know how to transliterate it, you can go to the book's English Wikipedia page and change it to Cyrillic and then copy the author name + title in Cyrillic. Then you can try your usual book torrents / free literature resources using the Cyrillic transliteration and you'll probably find what you're looking for in Cyrillic instead of English / romanized Russian.

Good resources:

>The New Penguin Russian Course: A Complete Course for Beginners (Nicholas J. Brown)
>Probably one of the best beginner books out there, covers pretty much everything
>Russian Learners' Dictionary: 10,000 Russian Words in Frequency Order (Nicholas J. Brown)
>For when you forget a word / need to look up something unfamiliar or are unsure of what something means in context
>2001 Russian and English Idioms (Agnes Arany-Makkai)
>Some Russian idioms are rather strange; this explains them. Also translates English idioms into Russian if you want that for whatever reason.
>A Comprehensive Russian Grammar (Wade and Gillespie)
>A very in-depth grammar book, but very dry

And since you're interested in literature

>Russian Stories: A Dual-Language Book (English and Russian Edition) (Gleb Struve)

It has Tolstoy, Chekhov, Dostoevsky and others in their native Russian and English.

You should be able to get most of these off bookzz

As a note, you can probably learn the Cyrillic alphabet yourself if you have a weekend off.

The Jesus and Mary Chain - Psychocandy (1985)
>noise pop, post-punk

A cool sound, like a /really/ cool sound, but the songwriting is absolutely completely 100% lacking here. "Just Like Honey" is of course a wonderful tune, but then they repeat that same exact song 13 more times. I swear to god, "Sowing Seeds" /is/ the same exact song as "Just Like Honey", not just because they both open with the "Be My Baby" drums, but they have the same chord progression, the guitars sound similar, the vocals sound similar, it's just lazy. They're lucky they have that abrasiveness to them, because the guitars sound amazing and I love the basic sound here, I just wish it could be applied to much much much better songs.

2.0+

Arthur Russell - Another Thought (1994)
>art pop

Not quite as much of a revelation as World of Echo (and I'm chalking that up to the fact that there are guest performers here), but still a mostly wonderful pop record. It is kinda obvious that these are songs completed after Russell's death without Russell's input, but they're still very good, and I think they're definitely a good continuation of the World of Echo sound, and is kind of a mixture of this sound and the more disco-ey, full sound present on The World of Arthur Russell compilation. I still prefer the cello jamz by a fair margin, because nothing is better than a good Arthur Russell cello jam, and the guest vocals and a bit of the extra guest instrumentation does little for me, but even the fuller songs are quite good.

Chet Baker - Chet Baker Sings (1954)
>vocal jazz, cool jazz, standards

Gets progressively better the lonelier and more melancholic it gets, and that's probably the case for most vocal jazz records. "The Thrill Is Gone" and "I Get Along Without You Very Well" are where it's fucking AT, those songs are just so understated and lonely and lovely, and Baker's obviously untrained voice goes so well with them. When it gets uptempo and when more instruments get introduced, it just gets bland. I don't care for vocal jazz that terribly much anyway, and more uptempo vocal jazz especially. But even the lousy songs can't take /too/ much away from the wonder of the best songs.
