60s: tough choice, but either doors or turkish women
70s: not too familiar with these, but early kraftwerk is meh and cunt's thing looks promising, althought David bowie might take the cake
80s: milo
90s: your taste can't be shit enough to prefer 77 live
00s: paavo and electric masada showdown

the tourney is now live on rym
https://rateyourmusic.com/list/StuffRodHeardAfterAugust/rodriguezs_really_important_show_show/

new swans was shockingly boring. it's still post-reunion swans, and has that cool, massive sound to it, but nothing really happens on most tracks. it's not aggressive, it's not even effective ambient, it's just kind of boring.
Grain Loops was the most irritating album i've heard since The Source.
Juice II was well produced footwork that used samples to varying degrees of success.

while i'm waiting for the last few peeps to get recs in, what should i do next?

Oh fuck, we about to smash this round

also update on the political situation re: the state of Austraya
1. right up until the last hour of vote counting, the Liberals (aka the ones we don't want in) were cock-sure of themselves winning, Turncloak even gave himself a pre-emptive congratulatory speech in which he looked right pissed, red as a beetroot
2. Something weird happened and about 6 Liberal seats were cast into doubt, putting Labor and Liberal on equal footing at 67 seats won each (74 are needed to form government and there are 9 seats to decide)
3. Libs shat themselves, counting resumes today, lets hope for a Labor victory
4. Senate was interesting, Pauline Hanson (the please explain lady) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dVl9XsK8aqk (from 1993 I think) and Darren Hinch (the radio personality, and all round most blokey bloke to have ever bloked) got in https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WMCfl1usaUM

Wire - 154
Wire finally shed their punk trimmings and make a full-blown Art Rock album, and it's quite good
The main issue I had with Chairs Missing was that a lot of the material felt a little too overdeveloped and overdrawn to be punk and too underdeveloped and almost sloppy to be Art Rock it was kind of a weird middleground between the two that felt not quite as good as either because it was cluttered and a little confused at times
With this one over hya they deliver on a kind of promise made in that album, allowing for breathing room within and without each track to allow the instrumentation to flourish
feel free to call me a pleb now for not liking chairs missing

Boards of Canada - Music Has the Right to Children
this was quite good also
near on 2 hours of IDM, mostly with identifyable beats underlying, expected a little more based upon what IDM is built up to be as a genre on the whole, expected to dance with my mind and my booty, I danced mostly with my booty
Nah but in all seriousness the textures are very nice here

Time Machines - s/t (Bonus review) (1st impressions)
This is a strange listen; I found myself oscillating between being underwhelmed and overwhelmed quite often. It wasn’t until much further in that I realized that not only was this feeling intentional, but one of the charms and main sources of enjoyment in this album.
Despite being dark ambient, none of this album seemed particularly haunting in the traditional ’spooky’ sense. Instead, the vivid electrical landscapes crafted feelings of exploration and profound discovery (especially the final track).
The whole “altered state” feeling is very essential to enjoying this album, It begins in a melancholic, seduced state with the first track, that left me underwhelmed at first. Looking back, it almost serves as a precursor or warning for what’s to come, which considerably increases my appreciation for it. In the second track it really ramps up, with relentless pulsating frequencies colliding with intertwining ripples of sound. As the piece moves on it becomes more powerful at drawing you into it’s landscape as it seemingly embarks further down the wormhole.
The third and fourth track continue this sense of exploration in very unique ways that somehow all tie together as a single journey. It’s rare for an album over an hour in length to blend so well into a unified theme while still offering so much diversity within that cohesion. This is especially true for ambient pieces, where finding the balance between repetition and forwardness can be a struggle for repeated listens. For now, I enjoyed it immensely and it will be in the “heavy repeated listens” category before I decide it’s fate.
I can see top 10 potential.

Well first of all I should start with this
http://essentialradioheadbootlegs.tumblr.com/

Here are my favorites though:

>Kid A/Amnesiac Live in Paris
Essential rip of the MTV Live performance.
>Live on Le Reservoir
Acoustic performances from Jonny and Thom circa HTTT
>Live 1/23/98 Japan
Features rare performances of Nude, Pearly, Killer Cars, Lurgee
>Live 2000/10/02 Warrington
Pre-Amnesiac release show with Permanent Daylight played live
>2 live shows from Salamanca 2002
These are hard to track down, but I think the one from 7th of August is easier to find.
>Roseland Ballroom 28.09.2011
>Mansfield 1996
Killer versions of OK Computer tracks before their release. Paranoid Android especially.
>Berlin 4/7/2000
>Live at Reading Royal Berks Social Club 1994
if you're a fan of PH/The Bends era
>Thumbs Down/Scotch Mist performances
These count as bootlegs right?
>Saitama Super Arena 2008
>Glastonbury 1997, 2003, 2011
>Reading 2009
>Live in Nimes 2012 (first night)
>Berlin 2012 (best version of Ful Stop imo)

I think that is more than enough

sweet, it's especially worth keeping an eye out if he's ever performing his "Come In!" piece. It's starkly minimal compared to something like Sunrise of the Planetary Dream Collector but just as evokative in emotion imo. I think you'll really like him but hey, we'll see.

I already answered last thread ;_;

But no, not necessary, but maybe listening to some early and some late Abe material gives you context on where he headed with his music before his untimely death, that progression does return in the film. Haino doesn't appear for very long but any second with Haino is cherished, plus you get to see a tiny bit of him performing with Fushitsusha 0:

alright, so I'll probably give this a light 6. The first four pieces didn't convince me at all, they were not dancey at all and they didn't have enough sonic elements to be considered a complex listening. Thankfully, from "Always Human" things started to improve a bit and the atmosphere became more bouncy and hazy. Nothing that extraordinary, however.

Highlights: "Always Human", "Wrong Potion"

Jeff Buckley - Grace
well, that was 100% better than I expected it to be
See Jeff Buckley is super famous in Australia (and probably all over the world) for dying very young, and I must've heard Hallelujah enough times to vomit when I was younger, so I wasn't prepared for this to have as much creativity and energy as it did
It's strange because I expected this to just be sad songs by a sad man for sad people but it was like Slint fucked 60s Baroque Pop and he was the baby, it was great

Tom Waits, then Neil Young, then Stereolab, then Black snakes

Oh yea, why do you dislike Neil Young, he writes very comfortable tunes m8 and he also may be a virtuoso of guitar because he wings it a whole bunch of the time

>>66177407
He's an ok songwriter but his voice is so poor and I honestly don't understand why people like it. At least you gave the 8 to an album I kinda like instead of tripe like Harvest

Also, Dead Man is hardly a typical Neil Young album, let's be fair. I can easily see someone liking that album a lot and not caring for his 70s material at all.

>He's an ok songwriter but his voice is so poor and I honestly don't understand why people like it. At least you gave the 8 to an album I kinda like instead of tripe like Harvest
I liked his voice, esp. on On the Beach, it feels worn and fragile while also being quite gruff, not to be gay or anything
>Also, Dead Man is hardly a typical Neil Young album, let's be fair. I can easily see someone liking that album a lot and not caring for his 70s material at all.
This is true, but it does allow him to showcase his guitar-playing to a further degree than the 70s material,

Jeff Buckley's death wasn't tragic because he was young, it was tragic because of his potential. If you follow his dad's career and try to imagine what Jeff would have produced 10 or 20 years into his music production, it gets you right in the gut.

One wonders what Jeff's "Starsailor" would have sounded like ;_;

Scott Walker - The Drift
Scott Walker is bizarre
very dark music occasionally broken by inconsistencies in the character of the vocals (like Daffy on The Escape, or Pee Pee stained pants, it's a wee bit ridiculous) atmosphere so thick you could cut it up and put it on sandwiches for lunch in the morning. really often perverse lyricism, dunno what he's really trying to achieve with it but it fits
Liked the samples (esp. the one about Milosevic and Caligula)

Shellac - 1000 Hurts
eh, I've heard better out of yer man Steve Albini, some of the time it became really apparent to me that the lyricism was very juvenile, it's still got that characteristic punch so can't complain

will finish this tonight

Oxbow - The Evil Heat
When this bangs it really bangs, the beginnings of each new track show a heap of promise and potential, but then the band drags them on for too long and it gets a little tiring by the end, not boring, tiring
so you discover that you can bang to it at the start of the song, then you break whatever strange contortions you call dancing to this music and it requires a lot of energy, but the band doesn't variate too strongly from their starting position so you've just spent like 6 minutes shaking your head back and forth in a rhythmic movement and you feel like you've been masturbating without lube for 3 hours, get me??
Anyway the final track is amazing

hey yamir you've got a reserved spot next time i drone /dailiens/.

Dirty Three - Sad & Dangerous (1995)
>post-rock

Sounds like the music I could see myself making, for better or for worse. Very little like the work we've come to expect from Dirty Three (i.e., very lush and pretty post-rock with lots of airy guitars), this is a lot more out-there, freaked out, and noisy. There's some cool noisy guitar stuff, and a lot of neat jazzy drum work, but all in all this is just really uninspired and very meandering. There's really nothing interesting here, it's just some cool sounds. The sounds are cool as hell, but they can't sustain a full album. The Tweez to Horse Stories and Ocean Songs' Spiderland.

2.0+

Monoton - Monotonprodukt 07 (1982)
>minimal synth

I can't not mention the name when I'm talking about this, because Monoton is monotonous as all hell. Kinda like what I just said above, this is a bunch of cool sounds with no real meaning to them. Especially in the shorter tracks, they all have cool ideas but they just aren't fleshed out at all. The longer tracks are really quite great though, but they're all shoved to the first half of the album, making the divide between the first and second halfs quite obvious. Cool listen, but nothing out of this world.

2.5-

Midlake - The Trials of Van Occupanther (2006)
>folk rock, indie folk, americana

Sounds exactly like what you'd expect it to sound like from the cover, the soundtrack to a Wes Anderson film never made, or at least a parody of a Wes Anderson film. It's got a lot of pretty nice cozy moments, and I love the clean guitar sounds, but overall this is just uninspired generic indie stuff. You've heard this 1000 times before, they do it well, but it's nothing special at all.

Wayne Shorter - Adam’s Apple (1st impressions)
Shit yeah, this is some good Shorter. Great compositions and playing all around. The drums were particularly groovy (see: nice drums). Shorter’s playing seemed a little too reserved at times, opting for a soulful bluesy feel rather than the quick lightning characteristic of the ’66 scene. Hancock’s piano perfectly complimented the feel of the pieces and musicians, as is come to be expected form him. I wish he went a little more ‘out there’ as it still feels like he’s confined to the traditional modal jazz scope and unable to craft something truly unique again.
This is See No Evil 2, rather than taking a noticeable progression like his constituents Hill, Coltrane, Cecil Taylor etc were breaking new ground with.
Still very enjoyable and worth a listen.

I see. I'd agree with you that there's a far more relaxed atmosphere all around the record, but I think I remember quite well what Shorter was doing on that record. There is indeed a similarity with Trane but you have to admit that he was playing with the same formation; besides, I think that what you call the weakness in being "on autopilot", instead of JC who was experimenting with skronks and sheets of sound, is in itself one of the biggest points for this record: it shows the incredible diversity of ideas and approaches the two had and how the similarities sometimes touched. And btw, House of Jade is easily in my top 3 Shorter tunes.

>Miltata Private images
>ambient, dream pop

Warm ambient with dream pop vibes, the entire experience comes off as a beam of sunshine that keeps your tummy warm on a cozy winter afternoon. Sort of reminds me of sigur rós (or something overtly Icelandic) but without any of the intense post-rock crescendo's. Overall this is alright, I wouldn't listen to this often but rather save it for a special day or moment.
>Eskmo - Sol
>electronic

I just feel empty inside when I listen to this album, slightly glitchy electronic music that has a diverse amount of sounds and instruments but ultimately fails in getting a reaction out of me. I wasn't too impressed with the arrangements, the tone was kind of everywhere, and I sort of hated the vocals. It sort of reminds of other electronic acts (dark side and Kenna comes to mind) but with not enough style or substance.

Oval - 94Diskont
I feel a little bad giving this a low score, because I enjoyed it and think it’s a very cool concept. Unfortunately I feel the same about it as noise, in that it doesn’t have enough merit alone to produce something really worthwhile. Elements of noise or ambiance in an album are the shit, and I can see this album being sampled or utilized in really cool ways, but unfortunately as an isolated piece of work, it’s just not that captivating.
I'm also not sure if Do While was my least favourite track or favourite track.

i might take it off the chart because i havent heard soundtracks for the blind yet and i dont want to add three hours of extra stuff to the chart since im probably already doing most of unwounds discog before i do ltiy
>>
>>66184336

>>
>>66184321
>>66184359
also the glow pt 2 is a relisten

i heard it a while back and didn't like it but i really like mount eerie (the album)
>>
>>66184388
fairo, it'd probably be a good idea to listen to Soundtracks first have you heard Great Annihilator because you could replace it for that
>>
>>66184470
advice then:
>Pay serious attention to the lyrics and the guitar technique
>>
>Fishmans are restocking merch that hasn't been available for nearly a decade
>It's only being sold on tour
GUESS I'M GOING TO JAPAN xD

>>66184470
I agree Mount Eerie is better, but Glow pt. 2 got better for me after a few listens. The two albums are really similar and I usually think of them as two parts of the same album sometimes.

Unwound - Repetition
Fairly good
got your typical guitar tone and downbeat moods
got a lot more bangers than Leaves Turn inside you (imho, I still like that album)
but less moments that stood out to me than Fake Train

Red Krayola w Art and Language - Black Snakes
eh, not really a fan
shit review hay

is bed
will finish tomorrow
start up the next one with Fushitsusha?

also Smurm, need a rec mang, make it melancholic
>>
Found the new Fishmemes album for those who want it. Haven't finished it yet:

Note: I would turn down your headphones. Fishboy screams a lot.

>Long Season '96-7 96.12.26 Akasaka Blitz

Happy birthday in advance, Transy!

Shinji's voice is pretty distinct so I feel like Fishmans without him must have a fairly different feel but it's cool to see the lads going strong.

I genuinely thought this was /mtfg/ for a second cause of all the anime girl. Good God kids
>>
>>66184768

My thoughts so far:

>Much more dubby than 98.12.28, but more dreamy than their other two live albums
>I don't think there are any songs from UNS, given that this was recorded before that came out
>This version of Oh Slime isn't nearly as fun as the 98.12.28 one
>This version of Go Go! Around the World is pretty crazy
>Lots of screeching
>More guitar solos than typical of the Fishboys
>"nice drums"
>>
>>66185549

I didn't lose my virginity till 23, never give up m8

It's also really not that big of a deal but you don't really realize that until afterwards, at least that was the case for me.
>>
>>66185495
hmm
>>66185586
Fun fact: While Shinji is the name of Eva's MC, Satou is the name of Welcome to the NHK's MC.

Shinji + Satou (if you ignore the "u") = Fishmans man

Is it a conspiracy?

Holy shit if you search Joy Division on amazon the second result is the fucking shirt lmao

Кинo - Кинo (Чepный Aльбoм)

It's true that the best people die first. This album is probably the only mainstream record I know that is actually a masterpiece.

Not a single note is wrong, and even if the album is not complicated it's beautiful and clean. I love how the lyrics don't talk about nothing special, just a normal life of a normal man like us.

Usually when people talk about New Wave they mention Remain In Light, but I think that even the Talking Heads didn't have a composition power such as Tsoy

9/10

I never understood why Grebenshikov (though he's certainly not bad) was always the one people heralded as a lyrical genius. I think Tsoi was much better.

If you want more Talking Heads-ish stuff, check out Zvuki Mu. It's a very strange New Wave/Psychedelic Rock mix with lyrics that remind me a lot of Talking Heads. Fittingly, Mamonov looked a lot like David Byrne when he was younger (he now looks like a Russian Phil Collins).

>>66185928

Have they ever talked about the music there? Every time I accidentally open a thread it's image dumps and "CUTE!!" spam until it dies. And the threads take like twenty minutes to reach autosage.
