Half of what scaruffi said has been fucking dumb
someone just post the ICP reviews.

A Collection of Glacial, Colorless Holograms with no Dramatic Content, Massive Black Holes that Emitted Dense, Buzzing Radiations

Another one, on Lift Your Skinny Fists, this is what he said.

I mean that's true for the opening movement of Sleep

The spoken parts were the only thing that kept me awake while listening to that snoozefest
>>
>>66098711
I don't necessarily agree. I think the purpose of that field recording is to introduce the tone of the track. It coveys emotion of loss of an innocent way of life, and general hopelessness.

How is that a stupid thing to say? You forget Scaruffi's reviews are opinions based on how he felt while listening. You can't measure "dramatic content" on an objective scale

100% true
Spoken segments in GYBE are completely inorganic and over-the-top filler. Only edgy teenagers who can't derive meaning from instrumental music enjoy them.

Its literally impossible that he's hear every album he reviews. he probably never even listened to Godspeed.

How is it not possible? You can easily listen to 1000 albums in one year and I think Scaruffi has listened to about 6000?
>>
>>66102737
I believe he's listened to them but he probably only gives each one a cursory listen while he does something else, and then immediately decides where it fits in his narrative of the history of rock music.

Don't forget he's like 60, more than 3x the average age on /mu/

>Autobahn (1974) finally abandoned any intellectual pretense and laid the foundations of disco-pop, but now their operation of "black exploitation" was not all that different from what Presley and the Beatles had done: 1. take black music, 2. remove the provocative elements, 3. enhance it with modern technology, 4. and turn it into easy-listening music for the white masses.

There are multiple genres of "black" music that would not exist without Kraftwerk.

>He hates Bowie

not true, he gave two of Bowie's albums a 7.5/10 which basically means "very good" for him. he doesn't hate Bowie, he just thinks he's overrated, but he acknowledges that he has made some great albums.

>Radiohead

also not true, Amnesiac is on his best of the 2000s list

>Elvis

most sane people know that Elvis sucks

>Bjork

true, I have to disagree with him on that one.

>Queen

Queen is mainly a singles band rather than an album band so that's why he doesn't give them high scores. I'm pretty sure he put Bohemian Rhapsody on his best of list for the year it came out.

>Aphex Twin

not true, he praised Syro

>Led Zeppelin

dunno about this one

>Prince

he gave Purple Rain a good score

>U2, and Black Sabbath too.

don't know about these two

tl;dr: you don't know what you're talking about
>>
>>66107673
björk has 2 7s and 2 6.5s by Scaruffi
>>
>>66107673
>he doesn't hate Bowie, he just thinks he's overrated
Well that's what I meant by hate. Bands he thinks are overrated are usually bands he doesn't like. Him praising 1 or 2 albums from an artist does not mean he likes the artist. Actually read his bios instead of only looking at his ratings.

on Radiohead:
>"Radiohead, the most hyped and probably the most over-rated band of the decade, upped the ante for studio trickery."
>"Radiohead are masters of the artificial. Their parable crowns a long tradition in British rock music of putting form before content, of concentrating on "sound" to the expense of "music"."
>"Radiohead's career has been one long bluff and it gets harder and harder for them to disguise it."

on Bowie:
>"David Bowie turned marketing into the essence of his art. All great phenomena of popular music, from Elvis Presley to the Beatles, had been, first and foremost, marketing phenomena (just like Coca Cola and Barbie before them)"
>"Bowie's "masterpieces", works that were manufactured ad hoc (by the greatest rock communicator ever) to induce intellectual excitement (to disorient) in order to hide what little substance the music had."
>"One of the most over-rated artists of his generation, David Bowie could have spared himself the embarrassing prophecy of "Never Get Old": as a matter of fact, he was born old."
>"...Bowie remains a second-rate vocalist singing second-rate pop for a second-rate audience."

The only time he praised Bowie was for his early 90's material:
>"Surprisingly, he resurrected his career in the 1990s with a trio of experimental works that suddenly showed he had become a musician, not just the pretense of being a musician.
>"...and he was briefly a real musician (no, not the collaborations with Brian Eno, but the mid 1990s)"

tl;dr: you don't know what you're talking about
>>
>>66108438

I've read all of that before.

Thinking a band is overrated =/= hating that band.

>>66105657

Scaruffi gave the Beatles two 7/10 scores, but we all know he hates them. He hates Elvis. He hates the Beatles. He hates Bowie. He hates Radiohead. Just accept it. He probably doesn't hate all the bands he thinks are overrated, but you know damn well he hates the those 4 artists based upon the vitriolic tone of his bios on them.

Who fucking care's what some assholes on the internet think, The Beatles are amazing even if they're far from the best. I'd give all of their albums at least a 5/10
>>
>>66108907

A 7.5 is s great rating from Scsruffi m8. He might br vitriolic, but that's to emphasize that they're not as great as other people say iho.
