What are some good bands besides sigur ros and zeppelin and certain songs by floyd that use the bowed guitar technique?? Not ebow but actual cello or violin bow type stuff. I'd like to get into bowed guitar playing myself but I'd like to see some other bands techniques and what not please help. I like post punk and no wave but they can be whatever genre as long as they're decent

Never seen or heard of Gilmour using bowed guitar. He always uses a slide or steel guitar. Got any citation?

It literally does nothing but destroy a perfectly good bow

yeah, they use screwdrivers instead

Metal slides also work the same way as screwdrivers.
Ebows, cello bows, and screwdrivers all sound entirely different.
The difference between a cello bow and an ebow/screwdriver is that it can be used to produce dissonant overtones. It's a very distinctive sound, like scraping metal or animal howls.

Why in the hell would it destroy the bow? How do you think bows are used on violin family instruments?
>>66048843
Violin family instruments don't have roundwound strings.

It doesn't destroy the bow but it is a dumb gimmick.
You can achieve a similar effect using ebows, screwdrivers, or a pedal with reverse reverb.
Using an actual bow in a live setting is uncomfortable most of the time, especially with a guitar that isn't an arch top.

Then put flatwounds on an electric like people have been doing since the '50s. Problem solved.

I use flatwounds because they feel amazing. Slides are so smooth, there's less string squeak and the tone is a little warmer. I suggest investing in them no matter what gimmicks you use.

I have flatwounds on my electric bass guitar, but they utterly cannot be bowed. I can bow the strings of my other electric bass guitar with roundwound strings quite easily. It could be different for guitar, but I dunno, just thought you might like to know.
