The 20th century is an absolute explosion of creativity comparatively.
In 20 years, rock music went from some guy poking holes in his speaker cones in order to purposefully distort his sound, to two guys using a complex system of reel-to-reel tape and delay so one of them could sample the other playing guitar in real time.
