Why do guitarists get so mad at wealthier folks who can afford nice gear? They seem to have a mentality of "if i can't have it, neither should you" which is seriously embarrassing.
Even worse is when they put down kids or beginners that are just starting to play because of shit gear, or once again, because they have better gear. "You need to be 'this' skilled in order to have that gear"

hey man your fretboard is warped.

On another note, I just have to assume that most prople in these threads are guys. What do girls do with their time? I don't see many go to the gym often. Do they just have sex/get guys attention all the time? Or are they watching tv?
>>
Who has any experience with the various Ibanez tremolos?
I'm in the market for a new guitar and I've never before had a guitar with a whammy so I think it's time
>>
>>65990519

Untrue. Jackson and ESP (under the LTD brand) manufacturer cheaper guitars than Charvel, while the upscale Charvel models are fairly expensive ($2-3k) and the Custom Shop guitars are known for both their quality and high price (they're Masterbuilt). Besides, Charvels and Jacksons are made in the exact same factory.

The difference between the brands is aesthetic. Jackson and ESP are geared much more towards more modern music and aesthetics while Charvel maintains the late 70s/early 80s So-Cal vibe. Charvel is a middleground between traditional Fender designs and the more extreme Jackson models. That's all.

Can confirm that girls don't really do anything but talk to guys, talk to other girls about guys and spend time with guys. 99% of girls in their 20s are "normies" who go out every weekend to bars/clubs/parties

I know this because my last girlfriend was as normal as they come for girls in their 20s and that's what she liked, even though I hated it. Needless to say we separated because of our differences

Which ones are you looking at? You can't really go wrong with an Original Edge, LoPro Edge, or FX Edge.

EdgePro, LoTRS, Edge III, and Edge Zeros tend to be garbage.

RG655? That's an Original Edge. Both the LoPro and Original Edge are top quality. You can't really go wrong with either and they're mechanically pretty much identical.

The iteration after those two (Edge Pro) dropped the locking studs, changed to cheaper metal, and was the beginning of Ibanez gimmicks to try and get around the Floyd Rose patent.

Original Edge are basically OFRs with locking bridge studs. LoPros are reshaped to sit flush, but they do have raised lettering on the block that means you need two pieces of wood to block them firmly. I prefer how they feel under the hand though.

Like, bitch, we all have troubles, try sitting quietly and letting them pass instead of coming home and bitching to me about them. You had all that time to deal with your thoughts and all you did was go around having "fun" and now you want me to help you out? Fuck you, my only fun was video games. How about you help me out by whelping children and shutting the fuck up?

can vintage frets reduce choking-out when bending?(i know fretboard radius should be main factor)
>>
can you name me a guitar that has a REAL wood finish? i mean, not even pain. I want to touch the guitar and feel that tasty wood
>>
>>65991345

The closest you're going to get is rubbed oil finishes, and even those tend to be built up thick.

Guitars have finishes for a reason.
>>
>>65991345
I don't understand. Not even pain? Does it hurt you to touch most guitars?

I own a solid wood acoustic from Seagull that has such a thin finish it feels like a piece of furniture. No idea what you're talking about.

will lots of distortion and a noise gate make me sound better at guitar?
>>
>>65991614
no
it will make you sound very distorted without the extra noise
>>
>>65991305
not really, for bending you pretty much want a 12"+ radius to not choke out. fret size doesn't have much to do with choking out, as long as they are level any size is fine. personally i find it easier to bend on guitars with larger medium jumbo+ type of frets because i just feel like i can manipulate the string easier some people are different and hate larger frets.
>>
>>65990738
thanks :)
>>
>>65991614
if you use so much distortion that people can't hear your mistakes, you're using so much distortion that people can't hear when you play correctly either.
>>
>>65989015
Because they're not learning. One of my few and far between visits (every year or two) to this board, but it's because they aren't learning. If you put a plastic piece of shit in the hands of Stevie Ray, he would make it sing because the equipment is secondary to his talent. When people go out and buy expensive shit on a whim it drives up the cost of everything.
>>
>>65991737

The fact that you assume that just shows you have that same shitty mentality

It's the telemonster, rhythm in all pickups on in series with neck out of phase, lead in strat position 4 in series. I think position 4 is middle + bridge.

distortion is a 2 led distortion circuit I made based on the marshall MG10.

What about them can't you get used to? My other electric is a MIM tele from early 2000s; I must have gotten a fairly decent one because I can't really complain about its build quality, it's just kind of a dull guitar that got the job done for a while. There was a small learning curve on the mustang, but now I really love it. About a month ago I got a Blues deluxe reissue, so I'm super excited to spend some more time writing stuff when I get the time to

I can get pass the thicker neck, doesn't really slow me down but the vintage fret..

http://houston.craigslist.org/msg/5654980595.html

The built in case amp is pretty "okay" but the guitar when properly set up should be killer. Can't be an old US Peavey for value.

If you get it, take your remaining budget (around $45-60) and take the guitar to a place in town called "Heights Guitar Tech", they're in this shitty yellow shack but they do great work. Tell them you want them to do a set up on it and new strings as well.

>>
>>65996099

Honestly, I don't think so. It has style points and all but really for $200 you can do a lot better. Individual height adjustment is crucial on older guitars which may have some neck warp that could be easily compensated for with a 6 saddle bridge.

Anyways a guitar that old is bound to need fret work, that considered I doubt the guitar is any better than any made in china thing. I think it's a cool guitar and if I was in Houston I'd buy it but it's not a great beginner axe.
>>
>>65996306
I disagree plus it solves his issue of needing an amp as well.

>>65996332
It's been alive since the 80s. It's a vintage instrument. It will need fretwork. Thus, its fret work has as much value as a squier bullet. It doesn't have an adjustable bridge. This guitar is not good by any measure other than the style and tone.

Look, some people can't be arsed to follow directions, but the majority of the human race can figure out how to set up a guitar.

Here's a good rule of thumb: if you can't even fucking cook yourself a meal or do your laundry you should probably both take your guitar to a luthier and see a doctor.

The chances you actually find a well maintained 80s guitar is already pretty slim, when it's a student model guitar like the t-15, forget about it. It's a gamble, particularly since a beginner will not be able to assess the damage.

The only time I've ventured out of variations of standard or drop tuning is when I broke the high E on my acoustic guitar and tuned the remaining 5 strings to all fifths starting from C. There are definitely some fun shapes with that. Though I would imagine all fifths tuning would be annoying with all six strings, you'd either have to have the 6th string really low pitch or the 1st string annoyingly high

>>66001432
rhythm's in the player, not the tuning, bass player get around with 4 strings tuned to 4ths.
As for barre chords, you can do some wider intervals with them because of the tuning itself, if you'd play 7-7-9-10-7-7 (from C to G), you'd get an open kind of major G chord. or you could play the second inversion of a C major Add9 chord by doing 7-9-10-7-8-7, it's a tuning full of less similar chords because of its wide nature.
Also all I'm saying's theorical, I never bothered with NST because you need to get a fucked up set of strings (from .56 to .08, more or less depending on taste and scale lenght.)
>>
>>66002262
Well, I meant rhythm as in rhythm guitar, not as in keeping beat. In other words, how well it works for various chord voicings and such as opposed to lead guitar. I appreciate the info. I might try this some time. Clearly it's less convenient all things considered but could be worth it.
>>
Which amplifiers are known to have the cleanest, most articulate distorted sound? My Laney Cub sounds great with Gain around 3 o'clock, but big jazz chords that I use tend to get pretty muddy (unless using the bridge humbucker in coil-tapped mode). Pedals are not an option since over the last few weeks I've noticed they fuck the dynamics quite a bit and don't sound quite as heavy as in-amp distortion.
>>
>>66002516

5150 sounds about right. A great OD makes those sail and have tons of clarity.
>>
>>65999185

I'll grant that it's more universal. You can't knock the P-bass when it comes to various surf and punk styles, though.

Fender really got it right with that not width on the J bass, though. Far less of a hand workout.

why don't you date girls that have actual interests besides "talking to boys" and "having sex with boys" then you fucking tard

is it because you know you're not interesting enough to get an interesting girl and your only marketable attribute to the opposite sex is your gender?
>>
>>66002516
This is kind of a strange question. I guess you mean articulate distortion. I'd say the "tinnier" kinds of distortion tend to be more articulate. If you want "big" distortion, the low end is going to end up pretty inarticulate. Lower frequencies muddy up a LOT easier. That's why chords on bass in general sound less defined.

One thing you can do is to cut your bass before your distortion, whether it's pedal or amp, and boost it after the gain stage. It may need more boost than cut, since the bass will be boosted by the distortion less. You can also do the opposite, boost high or mid range, or both, before distortion, and cut afterwards. It takes lots of tweaking but to me this "pre and post" EQ is the essence of more advanced sound sculpting. There are some pedals that have a loose bass naturally, like the boss blues driver. Bass basically gets no distortion on lower settings, but clarity of this pedal is good.

In any case it's the physical nature of sound you're working against, not the tubes or pedals. So try and kind of distortion with this method you can get your hands on.
>>
>>66002752
Thanks man, guess I'll have to get a EQ pedal for the FX loop or something.

>>66002694
Honestly, the jazz bass with both pickups on full is sooo good for punk. It's a shame the p-bass was as popular as it was. The jazz bass has all the smoothness of a p-bass with a way more tight sound.

Another good thing about the jazz is you don't have to get a scatterwound pickup to get the vintage p-bass sound.

P-bass is just way too limiting, always being in series.

>>66002830

>>
>>66002802
really you need two EQ pedals. If your current pedals have good tone controla then one EQ can suffice. But just FYI without an EQ pedal you can still do this, just without a ton of precision. Just cut bass with your drive pedal and boost on the amp. Or if you want to use amp drive, lower your distortion pedal as much as possible, EQ, and EQ opposite on your amp. Amp's EQs are almost universally post-distortion.
>>
>>66002926
As stated, I'm not using any pedals, just the internal drive of the amp. Used to use a Big Muff Pi, but it really killed a lot of the dynamics. FX Loop should be after in-amp EQ, right?
>>
>>66002516
What kind of pickup are you using? That's a pretty big part of getting good chord definition through a high gain amp
>>
>>66003060

>>
>>66003108
Actually, the Big Muff Pi worked quite well with the chords I'd use (usually with all settings at 12 o'clock, Tone controls disabled and Tone Wicker enabled). But the dynamics suffered a lot.
>>66003110
It's the best Squier you can get really, anything else I'd just recommend going straight for Fender.
>>
>>66003104
Ok maybe someone was shitposting with your pics then.

>>
>>66003170

My issue with the muff is that it sounds great until you want to play with anyone else. It's such a tone vacuum when you kick it on and are suddenly competing with the bassists frequency range.

Try a hot rodded tubescreamer sometime, see if that doesn't give you some clarity and burn like you're looking for.
>>
>>66003217
Ha, that's crazy, I was actually going to get a Tubescreamer next based on the "Low Riffer" Guitar Rig preset which uses it among a Marshall clone for a fat, yet articulate stoner sound.
I'll have to Google the hot rodding thing though.
Think it has to be a legit Tubescreamer btw or will a clone do? (like the East River Drive or smth)
>>
>>66003044
Oh, when you said pedals are not an option I thought you had some. Anyway big muff can be treated the same way but this method doesn't change compression at all, and the big muff is the most compressing pedal I know of(really useful in that way). Anyways, pedals aren't fundamentally dynamics killers any more than distortion in general is. There's pedals with less compression than amps too.

If you want to buy only one EQ pedal and do this, what you need to do is put it before your amp. If you put it in the fx loop it'll be in the same place as your amp's eq, basically. It may seem counter-intuitive, but your amp's EQ is post-gain.

If you want to use zero pedals and do this, you can just install a bass contour in your guitar, cut bass, and boost amp bass. However bass cut actually moves the mid bump in your signal a bit up, so it's not much different from just using a single coil in the first place. Having two graphic EQs is particularly good because you boost and cut the exact same frequencies, so you essentially only affect the gain structure. This is nice because it's easier, with less guess work. If you're only using one EQ, or using a bass contour, you're going to have to fiddle around a lot more. If you are the kind if person who basically just wants one solid tone, this isn't a problem.

Honestly, considering the cost of pedals, an old multifx with an fx loop does this much better. It's really, really annoying to have to dial two eq pedals every time you want to change your gain structure instead of having it saved as a preset.

That's not to imply normal changes to the EQ are any more difficult, only changes to the character of your distortion take time. So this may not bother you.

>>66003298
Yeah, the whole point lately was to simplify the setup while retaining a nice tone so all the distortion pedals are out of the picture for the time being. Honestly it's starting to sound like I might have to just replace the Cub Head and get something with clearer and more variable EQ controls (or a different tone altogether, namely less vintage-style bass). Two EQ Pedals added might be too much again.
Thank you very much for the help, man.
>>
>>66003402
Not many amps have pre and post EQ. Most tubes won't let bass through clean without this. Most tubes basically act similarly to each other in that way. Obviously some amps will have cleaner bass than others but the difference is not that big.

All I'm saying is that you should be careful of the grass looking greener. It's the nature of audio for bass to muddy up sooner, so you won't find an amp with particularly clean bass that hasn't taken specific steps to achieve that.

By the way, is your tone knob open? Because it should be, absolute first thing you can do for cleaner bass.
>>
>>66003514
Open as in up? Yeah, and I did already dial the bass down a lot since our bass player's got a two-amp setup that even bleeds into the mids (with a octave fuzz on one amp and a clean signal on the other). Hell, it might just be a case of having to turn down the gain and getting a 'louder' (or louder sounding) amp... But that's a good point, it might be a case of thinking the grass is greener on the other side.
>>

Hah, two amp bass setups would be such cancer if they didn't sound so good. Anyways that should be a separate issue, really, though it does remind me that cutting "the lows you don't use" is a good idea in most situations. Your amp will flub less and you can turn it louder.

If I was in your situation, I'd honestly be more worried about killing my lows altogether than cleaning them up. That is, of your bassist is good enough to handle the sonic space his setup is taking up.

But yeah, the two-amp sound is absolutely sick and I'll likely go down that route too (with one amp for in-amp distortion and one for switching between clean and fuzz).
