Do people actually dislike Aesthethica? Like not dislike Hunter or their imagery or the stupid fucking chant sections, actually dislike the music on it, on songs like Returner or High Gold.

I'm seriously not memeing, it's some of the most rich and intense music I've heard in the last few years of black metal, the hatred for it confuses me. It's fucking ferocious.

It's some shitty subculture thing. Metal fags get annoyed because Liturgy doesn't fit their image of what a metal band should be plus has crossover appeal on sites like Pitchfork etc which means they can't like it and feel like special snowflakes at the same time

Is it? I play in a metal band and I know tons of ""metalheads"" (though I don't personally identify as one) and not many of them have a thing against Liturgy. The only guy I know who makes black metal cites them as one of his biggest influences, whilst simultaneiously walking around with Deathspell and Emperor patches.
I just have genuinely never heard a good reason as to why their music is "bad". I think it's some of the most inventive stuff in metal. They jumped the shark a bit with the Ark Work but it's still salvageable, though not as impressive as Aesthethica.

So many better bands. Liturgy have objectively one great album. Their latest was awful. The precursor to Aesthetica was generic crap. The band is absolutely terrible live now. They've been terrible since mid 2012. (I've seen them live 3x)
