Both albums are absolutely cancerous and they're the epitome of everything Europower is.
Europower lacks the riffs of USPM and JPM, and then fills itself with keyboards and plastic production. It replaces the power with flower and is completely separated from what made the older, American power metal scene power metal in the first place. They replaced the relentless, heavy NWOBHM-inspired riffs found in USPM with an emphasis on harmonic leads and oversaturate their songs with catchy stadium rock choruses. EUPM is chorus-driven, sugar-coated garbage.

USPM is arguably the most thrashy of the three power metal scenes, and there's plenty of USPM bands which are very melodic without sugarcoating themselves like EUPM does. Fates Warning's a good example of very melodic power metal that doesn't make the mistakes that EUPM does.

That's not backpedaling. Those aren't mutually exclusive assertions. Yes USPM is too vanilla to fit into any other proper style it's an amalgam of, but just because that sound is in itself rather unique doesn't mean it's any good. Is it really that hard to understand? USPM is bland, unoriginal (yes I used the word again) and lukewarm moreso than any other PM scene. It's very special in that respect. Doesn't mean it's a selling point.
