If tonewood is a meme, why does /gg/ hate ovation guitars with composite backs?
>>
>>65834174
it's obviously not the target model. It's probably a really nice guitar.

>>65834305
because tonewood is real for acoustics. Fiberglass isn't a tonewood.

"tonewood doesn't matter" is about electric guitars... Nobody here will tell you all acoustic guitars sound the same.

Is this related to the gearspammer a few years ago? He was such an annoyance
>>
>>65834790
This is not related to any of that stuff. Let's cut the meta discussion now, studies have shown it leads to low thread quality and shitposting.
>>
>>65834899
whos this mammajamma
>>
>>65834790
Yeah. He got all assmad and jealous because people posted their gear. He started posting their pics pretending to be them. A lot of anons put trips on, he got even more upset. He has absolutely no life at all so he posts that same pasta all the time at all hours. About a week ago, he did it for like 4 hours straight claiming he was "winning" and "killed /gg/". Everyone laughed and it became entertaining to see how long it would go on, someone told him we were entertained and he stopped. But really, it's been more than 3 weeks now. Every time i shit i look here and see if he's still "winning" and I'm never disappointed that the little guy is still doing it, with delusions of grandeur.
>>

He's legitimately been spamming this thread non-stop for 11 hours now. It's pretty interesting the incredible lengths autists will go once they've got their mind set on something. It's almost admirable just how dedicated he is to this.

Anyone could become a guitar god if they took the amount of effort and dedication he puts into sperging all over a small general around an issue no one really cares about and focused it into their guitar practice.

>>

>>
>>65835637
Yeah based on how his spam is technically non-specific, he seems like a bleeper.

Also, I've seen him make a mistake and delete his posts (see >>65834931), so it's not a script doing it, he's actually wasting his time posting this.

I don't usually post in /gg/ at all, I was just curious what's going on. There are often novices here, but sometimes there are knowledgeable people like myself.
>>
>>65835696
He also makes comments in a few of the spams which further confirms that he's really just been sitting here for soon 12 hours spamming away without an audience.

My cousin is going to University soon, non essential information:
>(going back, she's 19 I'm 24, went a year early dropped twice, lots of issues at home, drugs, abuse, she doesn't have a social media or complain about it to anyone surprisingly, she'd just play guitar quietly, always wanted a classical guitar)

Essential info: they play guitar, steel string acoustic, rather well. Going in for music theory. They can play some of Bach's french suites, cello suites, currently learning BWV565, they're really passionate about music, but I don't have a lot of money to buy a new classical guitar.

I wanted to get a solid top at least. Which do I get: (they currently have an Epiphone)

You can get a cheap tuner for ~the price a pack of strings are worth. Also if it's a new guitar and it's a cheap piece of crap the strings are usually also cheap to the point of just breaking even if you're tuning it like you're supposed to.

However Matt Pike also has a custom first act 9 string (6 strings with 3 courses of 2 strings), you're right about them not being shit.

I don’t play guitar but I think Ovations are neato, as the founder of company, Charles Kaman, built helicopters and adapted the synthetic material tech from that industry to make his guitars.

That said, my buddy who does play guitar doesn’t like the rounded backs, as the guitar slides off his lap.

Yes and I loved it! I had to back off on the treble on my Deluxe but it sounded great especially with a boost or light overdrive behind it with a guitar with single coils. Joyo make amazing pedals for the money, I am also sure they make lots of other pedals under different brand names.
>>
>>65836828
Jackson got bought by fender so their quality Sort of went down. Just check what country it is maurfatured in. If it's Indonesia made stay away. Early 2000s Japan made Jackson's are pretty commnon on eBay if you're sold on the brand, I own two myself and they play great. Just be warned the floyds in most of those models can't be perfectly intimated because they only have positions the saddles can be moved to, but it doesn't really matter that much.

just google up an online tuner, they'll usually have decent sound samples so you've got some idea of what the string should sound like

take this one, it seems alright.

Also make sure you're restringing it correctly too, there's lots of guides out there for all kinds of guitars.

I heard some demos of the 707x but it sounded so horrible and I thought pickups couldn't sound that bad, it has to be the amp

alumitone bars are bright and clear. So much so that they are bound to not match up that well with many amps. I don't think they're a good idea for someone who doesn't like to put much effort into sculpting their tone. On the other hand that's the right extreme end of the pickup spectrum to be at. It is always easier to add warmth, low end, and mud than to add clarity and convincing brightness.

The alumitones are sort of a shot at the "ultimate humbucker" in that way. They're supposed to do it all, and they certainly can, but not by simply plugging into an amp with a 3 band EQ.

Anime posting serves the purpose of discouraging normies and high schoolers for the most part from posting. At the very least you can expect more weebs than kids tabbing between 4chan and facebook to actually read the rules or want to use the website for more than memes. If you find anime itself annoying to see, I dunno. I mean, it's got to be less disturbing that vomit.gif or literal shitposting.

It does seem counter-intuitive to discourage newfags by simply being unpleasant, but if you actually watch anime or read manga than the only downside is that occasionally people complain. It's not a utopia for everyone, but my guess is this is the underlying reason why people reply to complaints with >on 4chan.

Try to look at it like people posting any other meme: It's stupid and laughable. That might help you put up with it more easily.

I use seymour duncans in my bass. I wouldn't use them if anybody else made a stacked jazz bass pickup for cheaper. I prefer gfs when they offer what I want. Seymour duncan is fine but nothing special when it comes to machine made pickups. Frankly, if you're getting a machine made pickup, look for the following: some attempt to measure the gauss of the magnet, and the overall design and specs (including materials) you want.

I've found hand wound pickups or scatterwound pickups can be worth it if you want to cut down slightly on the capacitance of your pickup.

If you're not looking for hand made, gfs, calig, and other artec brands are great. I've found with my admittedly fairly limited experience gfs pickups to have tighter tolerances than seymour duncan.

How do you get that abrasive post-punk tone like PIL, The Fall, Big Black, e.t.c?

I can get semi-close by turning the tone all the way up on my DS-1 and adding a bit of chorus but it's not there all the way. The only drive pedals I have are a TS7, DS1, and deluxe Muff btw.

Thanks, but I want a dedicated loop box.
>>
>>65840338
Your amp settings are a huge part of it. Give it a bit too much treble, it'll be less physically painful when the drums play over it. I posted the guitarist of this song's gear last thread. http://youtu.be/TRqyT5ByZPQ

He uses a boss blues driver and a jcm900 for this. Blues driver definitely can do real treble-ey stuff.
>>
>>65840799
If you want a dedicated loop box I think having more than one button could be helpful. Being able to stop, resume, and overdub with single presses is useful.
>>
>>65840733
maybe a really weird looking half note?
>>
>>65840895
The x2 would be nice for that, but I don't need the stop button that badly.
>>
>>65840925

i don't have a clue, it has to be a full note i imagine since its 4 beats per measure right?

But what are you supposed to do with it.

I appreciate the response.
>>
>>65840733
First one is just a half note, it gets two beats. The second one is a tie, the chord starts on the eighth note and gets held out through the half note without strumming again
>>
>>65840733
The first one is a half note (one 4th and two 8th notes come before and it's in 4/4 so it must be a half note)
The second one "ties" the note together. In this example it's a 8th and a half note. So you hit the note on the 8th and it's duration is 8th+half or five 8th.
>>
>>65840729
This. I have a zoom g3 and a ditto, and I almost always use the g3 for looping. The only thing the ditto seems to do better is be small.

The tie+the strange half note through me off as well cause I didn't even know what it was.
>>
>>65840733
4 beats per bar. each bar has a quarter note, then 2 eighth notes. half of the bar remains.. and there's something that looks like a half note. it's a half note.

it's odd because they don't use slashes in place of a filled round note, then a box in place of an empty round note

the 2nd one is is a tie. the note is sounded once, and held for the duration of the combined notes. in this case, an eighth + a half

They're different really. I prefer BKPs to SDs mainly, but they each have their own thing. BKPs have a weird smoothness to the upper mid and high end, as well as pretty crazy note separation. It's not for everyone though. I still use 498Ts in some of my guitars and am a big fan of JBs.

There's never been an archtop that wasn't worth the money, especially kays with those fat frets. They'll last a lifetime. I have seen kays go for as little as $60 sometimes but $80 is still better than average.
>>
>>65844377
One word: Agile.

That's all you need to know.
>>
>>65844377
agile LITERALLY shits all over gibson and epiphone anon. if I were you I'd get an agile
>>
>>65845755
So true.
>>
i dont like this agile meme
>>
>>65844377
Agile is the Metal Gear Solid of the guitar world. Epiphone and Gibson are more like Call of Duty: Black Ops: Declassified if you ask me.
>>
I have an Epiphone Les Paul standard that I've had for a couple years, and it plays well, but I don't love the sound that much. A bit muddy, maybe? I want to drop a Lace Dirty Hesher (the Matt Pike signature) in the bridge and something mellower sounding in the neck (maybe a p90). Would this be worth it, or should I fork out and get one of the new faded series Gibson LP's?
>>
>>65846226
agile dude. sweet ass stoner tones bone stock bro
>>
>>65846226
No, you should get an Agile instead.
>>
>>65846226
It'll definitely be worth it. Assuming your neck is stable it is always better to upgrade the guitar you have than to purchase a new one. I would also recommend upgrading to 1 meg potentiometers. Another way to brighten the sound is to remove the pickup covers. You can also try removing the screw pole pieces, though this changes the tone quite a bit. It can work well in the neck position.

Anyways in the end swapping pickups is usually a good idea, you get to pick exactly what you want.
>>
>>65844377
>money isn't an issue

Get the Gibson, you'll be happier in the long run. Anything else is just an imitation. Do not get an Agile , they're cheap asian pieces of shit.

I AM thinking about getting a little sweet tube amp to play some blues/country style music in my apartment.I thought 1x12 could be too loud, but is 1x10 a meme?

I have that amp and I love it, excellent clean sound and overdrives sound really nice with it too.

It can get pretty loud but it still sounds good with apartment/bedroom volumes

Tell your eviction notice I said Hi.
>>
>>65847037
12" isn't more or less loud than 10". Volume is a product of wattage and speaker efficiency. It can scream but sounds fine at low volumes. You could always swap the preamp 12ax7 for a lower output 12at7.

So I've never been a Gibson/Epiphone guy. Have been a Fender guy for as long as I can remember, but God damn I played a Made in America Gibson thunderbird the other day and I absolutely LOVE the way this ugly thing sounds. My only problem is the Gibson is 1k and the Epiphone is (for me GC-Discount) $225 and during a blind test I couldn't really tell too much of a difference.

Anyone have any experiences with these Basses?
Is there anything Comparable with a less ugly body shape?

Epiphone has quite a bit more neck dive than the Gibson generally.

Most of the Gibson basses will have a similar sound although Thunderbirds are cool as.

The only problem with these is the volume change between overdrive channel vs clean is so drastic you can't switch.

>>65847945
>pic related, is it an Asian shill or an honest lad?
Shill. Agile are okay but they're about as good as what you expect them to be for the price maybe slightly ahead. The low end stuff is Chinese and the higher end stuff is a low end Korean factory (not World Music Co).
>>
>>65848047
So I did some more research and it looks like the agile 3000 and I'm assuming above that are what is supposed to match up to the Gibson, I dunno what to do
>>
>>65847987
>clean/dirty mix before you even touch the gain
I think on that marshall it would sum the inputs and sort of boost the overdrive. It depends on the amp. On my old Fender bassman, i bridge the bass and instrument inputs to make use of the mids knob and sort of blend the bass to thicken everything.

This just isn't true. They're sub-World Music Co quality. Good for the price but that's about it.
>>
>>65848165
was it hard to do?
>>
>>65848209
Ok, yea there is a comparison thing on some guitar website a guy did but he sounded like one of those smug introverted death metal Canadians so I don't really trust it, that and Canadian has lots of orientals so he could have been biased.

Aside from the auto tune meme is the peavey at 200 good for the price?

>weebs actually think they're contributing and driving "normies" out of /gg/
>>
>>65847522
To get the thunderbird sound you basically just need low output humbuckers, though singles can get there. Using the normal tricks you use to get plenty of midrange and high end is a good idea.

The most noticeable aspect of the sound is the low resistance pickup. If you already have a bass adding a guitar humbucker can achieve the sound better than you might expect.
>>
Dude, trust me. Just get an Agile, you won't ever be sorry you did. I got the model you were looking and it's pretty great. Much nicer than Epiphone or Gibson guitars.
>>
>>65848410
>If you already have a bass adding a guitar humbucker can achieve the sound better than you might expect.

Might be worth a try. Thanks for the advice anon, I'll look into it.

Who even claimed that normies should get out of this place? The only person who wants that to happen is the person who keeps spamming his pathetic pasta, except he wants everyone to stop discussing about anything because of his poorfag jealousy not even his autismbux would provide him anything he wants.

>>65848309
Agiles are great guitars. The pickups are not great, but everything else is pretty spot-on. The problem with people comparing them to gibson is mostly the backlash. Any time you say a guitar is as good as one 10 times its price you're asking for a fight. Anyways, they offer some great options, like graph-tech saddles or neck-though. If you're in the U.S., just get one. If you don't like it, return it.

If you're in the US it's not a big deal. I've had a handful of encounters with them on behalf of people and their response if you're outside of the US loosely translates to, "fuck off and deal with it."

I have no desire to have anything to do with them after encountering a handful of unplayable guitars and having Rondo/Agile refuse to replace them.

They're good for the money depending on where you live (ESP LTD are cheaper here) but comparing an Agile to a high end guitar is somewhat absurd. Your strike rate on getting a brilliant guitar will be the same as midrange ESP LTDs.
