That's not a black thrash album. Also I would like to mention since it is the OP pic that despite not breaking new ground, The Horror is not only the best Tribulation, but among the best Swedeath albums, too. It's ridiculously well done, each track has a lot of riffs with great transitions, and the intensity is never ending.

For prog: Voyager's Meaning of I, Karnivool's Sound Awake, Rishloo's Eidolon
For unconventional composition: Diabolical Masquerade's Death's Design, Sigh's Imaginary Sonicscape, or Oranssi Pazuzu's stuff

Sure it's not as great as Terra Incognita or FMTS, but they've managed to create some really interesting ideas and still continue to challenge themselves with the direction of their music, whilst still retaining their authentic Gojira sound.
I think because the album was hyped to the max, people had their expectations set way too high. It's definitely still a solid album and deserves a lot more praise than it's getting

Swedish adventure metallers, TWILIGHT FORCE, recently signed a record deal with German metal powerhouse Nuclear Blast. Now, after several months of work in the band's studio, the Twilight Forge, the band is set to release their sophomore album and label debut called »Heroes Of Mighty Magic«, on August 26th.
"Hear ye! We can finally unveil the first mystical details of our next opus. Your thirst will be quenched even earlier than anticipated, for the album will be unleashed upon the world by Nuclear Blast on August 26th. The title of this monumental creation will be »Heroes Of Mighty Magic«. All the absolutely exquisite original artwork made for this album is conceived and forged by the mighty Kerem Beyit. Here is the glorious cover artwork."
»Heroes Of Mighty Magic« - Tracklist:
01. Battle Of Arcane Might
02. Powerwind
03. Guardian Of The Seas
04. Flight Of The Sapphire Dragon
05. There And Back Again
06. Riders Of The Dawn
07. Keepers Of Fate
08. Rise Of A Hero
09. To The Stars
10. Heroes Of Mighty Magic
11. Epilogue
12. Knights Of Twilight's Might
"This next opus of TWILIGHT FORCE will be a journey unlike any you have ever experienced. While we are still staying true to the essence of power metal, the songs, sounds and magic adventures have all evolved from the once drake hatchling into a colossal arcane arch-dragon. The time, effort and primordial wisdom that we have invested into this album is truly immeasurable, and we profoundly hope that this will shine through upon our venerated audience."

All music save for some anti-music genres like noise is melody-centric.

Power metal's always been a riff-centric subgenre along with thrash metal, speed metal, death metal, doom metal and early black metal.

AOTY confirmed
>>
>>65728452
unless you're talking about giant label euro flower metal garbage like sonata arctica, power metal's very riffy, especially in america, gookland, and the much more underground europower bands not owned by big labels

new gojira album sucks

>>65728470
Even if it has prominent riffs, it's still melody-centric. The main focus is the melodies. Riffs support them.

Melodies are the focus of all music. Do you even know what a melody is? All music is melody focused by definition.
>>
>>65728534
you're embarrassing yourself lad, listen to more power metal outside of your garbage big label euroflower metal and you'll realize how wrong you are

also melody is literally the act of stringing notes together in succession to make coherant music. all music is melodic
>>
>>65728564
Sure. That's not what people in metal threads mean by "melody" though. Riff is a melody, but here (and in music discussion in general) melody doesn't mean riffs.
>>
>>65728618
So you mean leads?
>>
>>65728618
All music is melody-focused you illiterate dumbfuck. Saying power metal is melody-focused might as well say that you're focused on breathing air. It's a riff-centric subgenre and always has been since its inception.
>>
>>65728612
I don't really see how one can embarrass himself on an anonymous board. If one could, I'd think that spamming unfitting reaction images would be more embarrassing than a discussion about Power Metal being melodic or not (in the sense most people see "melody" as opposed to "riff"). Stop being a smartass.
>>
>>65728647
>adhering to definitions makes you a smartass

stop bending the meaning of melodic you twat
>>
>>65728664
Adhering to definions seems to only be convenient when you want it to be. Otherwise we wouldn't have riffags vs atmofags discussions. We don't treat all melody equally.
>>

>using "child" as an insult
That doesn't make you sound like an adult.
>>
>>65728695
Give me an example of people NOT differiating riffs and lead melody and instead discussing them equally. You know perfectly well what it means when someone says "melody-centric" instead of "riff-centric", but you choose to keep yapping about how everything is melody, making you a smartass.
>>
>>65728701
Just admit it fampaichi, you're completely wrong about power metal and you're twisting definitions now for damage control. Power metal's always been a riffy genre since it first formed in 1983 in America. It's an extension of speed metal. It's always been very riff-centric throughout the 80s and 90s in the various scenes that formed throughout America, Japan and parts of Europe. Eventually, bands like Stratovarius popularized the idea of using keyboards in power metal and a focus on noodly leads, and musicians like Kai Hansen popularized the idea of infusing power metal with catchy hooks and poppy, stadium rock-esque choruses with less focus on the actual riffing. Combined together this created the Europower sound that only flourished in big European and big Japanese power metal labels. Riff-centric power metal still thrived in the USA until USPM eventually died or slowed, and riff-centric power metal bands in America, Japan and Europe still greatly outnumbers the amounts of bands using the big label power metal sound that originated in Europe, because the mainstream europower sound only reflects a small number of power metal bands, who just happened to be big.. We're actually seeing a return of riff-focused power metal bands making it out of the underground scenes and onto labels now.

Also, you're probably looking for the term lead-focused, not melody-focused. Melody-focused is a retarded term.
>>
wow, magma didn't harm this general too much

can somebody explain the differences between 80s uspm, 80s eupm, and 80s jpm clearly? all i gather from this is that they're different styles
>>
>>65729166
USPM is essentially heavier, riffier traditional metal played at a mid-pace, with a wide vocal range that's generally high.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gjfiHbf_POs

EUPM is essentially speed metal with a more focus on harmonic leads, catchy hooks, and loud, memorable choruses. Strong emphasis on keyboards and high pitch operatic vocals.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VKkndcGUCZ4

JPM originated from the visual kei scene, which includes glam rock, speed metal and punk rock. JPM generally has a wide vocal range like USPM, but it's guitar style hops all over the place between fast, thrashy speed metal riffs, neo-classical noodling and glam metal choruses.
