Melvins collection so far
So do you all use outer sleeves for the covers? Does it really matter that much?
>>65613505
God, no. That rough card rubbing against my precious records? I shudder at the thought.
Here's my recent pickups.
Been listening Closer a lot recently, also The Cars self titled, PiL - Second Edition, Swans - Children of God, Minutemen - Double Nickles and Paranoid Time
Started collecting a few years ago and have about 80 LPs and 5 singles now.
Got a Stanton T90, a Sansui AU G99x amp, a Sound Shaper SS-315x a shitty Sony system to play CDs and cassettes (gets the job done alright), and Pure Acoustic speakers which aren't amazing but work for my setup.
>>65613931
I wish I could find Trout Mask Replica here, only seen it for sale once and they were asking for ridiculous prices.
>>65614078
I got a buy two get the third free deal, so I got the Godspeed and Beefheart records for 45 bucks and got Psychocandy free
>Just got the new The Hotelier album in the mail as well as a Great Big Pile of Leaves album.
>Haven't been spinning much lately because my roommate always complains if it's not metal.
>Currently at 86 albums
>Pro-Ject essential II with some Best Buy receiver and speakers.
I really would like to get an amp/preamp setup but I don't know anything about that.
Ordered Ape of Naples
Reserved The Glowing Man from my nearby record store
Heading to a free Chad VanGaalen show at a different record store this afternoon, maybe gonna pick up some stuff there
Shameless repost.
My last big haul. Picked them up on holiday because there are no fucking record stores where I live.
The store clerk commented on the variety and went off on a fifteen minute rant about all the hipsters who come into the store and all buy the exact same kinds of music. I love it when staff have free reign to talk shit about whatever they like. You can't get that in chain stores.
>>65614078
You could probably find a decent bootleg pressing if you shopped around. There's a pretty good quality boot pressing of Loveless floating around that I picked up for £15, so I imagine odds are good there's one for TMR somewhere.
>>65614807
>£
Meant $, muh bad.
What's the most you would pay for a record? I want a copy of Vaudeville Villain but it will run me around 85 Canadian.
>>65614807
>7th Son
>Funkadelic
Noice
>>65615582
And likewise with Animals and Hot Rats, anon. Devo is also fine too.
Seventh Son is easily the most underrated Iron Maiden album, in my opinion.
>>65615536
~ $ 20 for records that aren't that rare and are in good condition.
~ $ 50 for records that are very rare.
$ 5 or less than that for records that are not in good condition.
Just came in the mail yesterday.
>>65615536
I paid $200 for the Hotline Miami 2 soundtrack. I don't regret it one bit, although I am a little annoyed that the first record was slightly warped. It doesn't affect that sound, but it bugs me that it doesn't lay completely flat.
I'd never pay that much for a record again, though.
>>65615908
Why did you pay so much outta curiosity? Have never played the game
>>65615883
I have a copy of that framed as well doubt it's the same version
>>65616102
Because they only did three pressing runs of it with no intention to do any more and I missed all of them before they sold out, because it's a first pressing, and because it's a bomb-ass soundtrack. The music is excellent.
I won't pretend it was one of my smarter purchases, but you might as well spend money on the things you like.
>>65616375
That makes sense I have no idea if they will ever repress it I emailed fat beats and they told me no plans in the immediate future
>>65616463
You lost me. What's Fat Beats' relation to it?
Bought Mac Demarco Salad Days yesterday, been listening to it since.
Too lazy to post collection think i have around 16 now, mostly hip-hop.
>>65615536
I've spent $200 on a record maybe 4 or 5 times.
>>65616653
They pressed the album and the label sound ink hasn't had an update in their website in like four years
Anyone here who rips their vinyl: what post-processing do you do to remove clicks/general noise?
Currently monitoring a rip in audacity, and it sounds fine but there are a few noticeable pops and some noise in quiet sections. (It's a 30-year-old record so that's not surprising, but I'd like to put it on What...)
These two just arrived in the mail
>>65613931
nice, i just picked up that gybe as well
i also ordered a ton of shit from phil elverums store and ordered ape of naples/the new backwards, the gate was pre ordered a while ago as well as bottomless pit. a little memey but w/e
I'm probably gonna receive AnCo's Live at 9:30 tomorrow or Tuesday.
>>65612316
it's dark and depressing here
>>65617518
nice cecil taylor baka (not his best tho), I have one jap press on Transition
>>65619543
Yea, I just got a jap press because the OP is impossible to find and retardedly expensive.
A good vinyl setup is going to cost you plenty of money. A mediocre turntable will cost you at least 500 usd at a minimal (not including the cost of a good amp, excellent cables, and solid speakers. Anything lower will sound like crap and ruin your vinyl. Sure you can also buy used for cheap but old turntables are USED meaning that the cables, belts, etc are going to be worn out and will affect your sound quality significantly. Plus they tend to not have long lifespan. Expect to pay at least 1500 USD to listen to vinyl the way it is almost meant to be heard.
weak bait
>>65619738
is this pasta
>>65619816
Nope, just a very poor attempt to score some (you)s.
>>65619962
*A poor attempt to score with your mum.
>>65619816
I just picked up Ultramagnetic MCs Critical Beatdown, and Im about to get paid. Thinking about getting a new player, mine is functional but not very good and I want to take better care of my records.
Anybody have any input on players in the $200-$400 range? Obviously Im a young adult who tries to be frugal, but also im willing to sink the extra cash for the sake of taking good care of my collection and getting the most out of it
>>65620276
AT-LP120 is the go-to upgrade from more basic players. Someone asked the same question in a turntable thread yesterday and this player was recommended too.
>>65620276
Disregard this:

If you were an audiophile, you wouldn't trust anyone other than yourself to pick the right cart and properly assemble it.
>>65620646
i'm pretty sure if you were an audiophile you'd be able to find an ace quality turntable for a fraction of that price instead of being lured into paying what looks like extortionate gimmick rates
>>65620725
>i'm pretty sure if you were an audiophile you'd be able to find an ace quality turntable for a fraction
You're underestimating audiophiles
>>65620725
Nah, audiophiles love both gimmicks and paying retarded prices. That's really the perfect audiophile product.
>>65620762
All I can imagine when looking at that setup is Holst's Mars, The Bringer of War.
>>65617206
You know it's a good thing I like this album because I've been listening to side A for four hours now trying to fix audio issues
I've been waiting for the Admiral Angry for months now. I'm so happy to have it.

I need to order all of the Microphones stuff, the shops I go to never have anything by him. And hey, they're memes because people like them
>>65620811
What album, anon?
Also, the trick is just to try and EQ the surface noise out. You can try using Audacity's background noise removal option, but that tends to leave the whole track sounding a bit shallow and tinny.
>>65617518
damn! nice on the cecil anon.
>>65619724
>>65619543

I spent about 80 canuck funbucks each on Ape of Naples and Giles Corey, that's pretty much my absolute ceiling but both were very special releases and like half the cost was fucking shipping.
>>65621308
P-Model's Karkador
Think I've got it manageable right now: eliminated the hum I was hearing by moving my preamp's ground wire to one of the RCA connectors coming out of the TT. ClickRepair with declick at 15 seems to get rid of 95% of audible clicks without affecting audio quality.
Also fuck pulseaudio and audacity for just randomly ceasing to work for some perfectly valid configurations
http://kabusa.com/slbd20.htm
this seems interesting, it's very cheap and I've heard good things. Anyone here have one?
>>65615908
I preordered the first run. I think it was like 70$~, deff worth it though. I mean, it came with a copy of the game, sounds great, the packaging was beautiful without feeling like gimmicky bullshit like most releases of its nature, vinyl color was nice even tho I don't care about that factor.

Hot Topic is currently having a deal clearing out their vinyl records stock, 12 bucks each including their online stock if you can ask them in store to order. apparently some people have been able to get the new kendrick with the sale but my store didn't offer it. found this one though
>>65622307

Recently attained Life Sux by Wavves, Nonagon Infinity by King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, and found an amazing deal on a copy of Person Pitch for $8.99
>>65623973
I bought a Debut Carbon Esprit ($600) and an Okki Nokki ($500) on amazon the other day. Thing is, my credit card just expired, so the bank sent me a new one with a different security code. Amazon didn't let me update the number so I said "fuck it" and used the old number and it went through.
Supposedly I paid $1100 but I never got charged for it.
Did I just accidentally defraud a massive corporation? Am I going to go to jail? Is Amazon sending men to break my kneecaps?
>>65623973
Have a small collection
>>65620481
Rich people. I could make the same thing for $3k, including the costs to have all the parts custom machined out of aluminum alloy, and the top of the line servo for speed stability.
The only reason to spend ten times that is if you're so rich that $3k or $30k isn't much of difference against the weekend it would take to assemble yourself.
I'm going to NYC for three days, do you guys have any recommendations for used shops I should hit up?
Picked up Ape of Naples over the weekend, July can't get here fast enough. Also got AMSP white reserved at my local store for Friday.
>>65613931
Holy shit nice TDAG. Which variant?
I really want to buy the seafoam green because it's one of the best looking records I've ever seen but it's too expensive :(
Every day I get a Discogs notification taunting me that someone put up an original pressing of XO or Leaves Turn Inside You or this fuckin album for over 100 bucks and it hurts
Speaking of which does anyone have the original Bong Load pressing of XO by Elliott Smith? I was going to spring for it and just pay 70 bucks since I love it so much but even with the original pressing I've heard things ranging from "it's the best-sounding record I own" to "full of shitty surface noise"
>>65617666
I really want to buy some of the Microphones reissues but the only one I really have an opinion on is Mount Eerie
And I fucking love Mount Eerie but the rest I kind of love a lot of moments but not sure about the whole album
Have you heard Backwards from last year vs. The New Backwards? I've put off listening to TNB for so long and so I actually just listened to it recently vs hearing the original Backwards earlier this year and honestly I kind of prefer the original in a lot of ways. I think some of the new songs drag a little
>>65623973
Take this with a grain of salt. I haven't graded anything and alot of my records are G+ and VG. On the other hand, I have over 300 records that are yet to be added to Discogs and some of those are semi-rare and in good shape. So the real number could be higher or lower, idk. I've only paid about $500 for my total collection but I was lucky to find a lot of stuff for much less than it goes for on discogs.
I have some records from the 60's that say on the cover or label that they're stereo, but they're clearly mono when listened to.
For example:
https://www.discogs.com/Crazy-World-Of-Arthur-Brown-The-Crazy-World-Of-Arthur-Brown/release/5221266
https://www.discogs.com/Yardbirds-Having-A-Rave-Up-With-The-Yardbirds/release/4455629
The Yardbirds record just has everything panned to the right channel so I guess it's technically stereo.
Was this just done for marketing purposes or what gives?
>>65626586
Yeah I have a lot that say something like "electronically . remastered to simulate stereo". A lot of things recorded in Mono got some kind of fake stereo applied to them when stereo came out.

>>65637510
Not that anon, but personally, both. I like listening to them, and I like having something to go out of my way to find and build a collection of.
The only LP I have framed is a first pressing of Iron Maiden's Number of the Beast picture disc with a signed photo of the band. Only problem is that it's warped as fuck from years in storage before I decided to hang it up, and I'm too scared to take any measures to straighten it out.
>>65616375
I have no problem forking out an unreasonable amount of money for a release I really want or one that is really important to me, provided I can still afford to buy groceries and alcohol.
>>65615536
The most I've ever spent was $40 during the Mother OST Kickstarter. It was for a special white pressing like the one in pic related.
>>65637547
Indeed!
>>65626444
Nice.
>>65637099
Also, why are no picture discs ever released in normal packaging? Why the shitty clear plastic leaves?
>>65637279
What is that? Something layered inside the disc, like you would do for a picture disc?
Bought UK pressing of Hunky Dory and Time by Elo today. While Hunky Dory looks fine visually, there seems to be some form of dirt in the grove that creates a noise that oscillates with each spin. Is this damage to the disc or leftover cleaning residue?
>>65637811
Wild guess: to showcase the art on the disc.
>>65637840
You're seeing two things here, as the disc is translucent (they call it "coke bottle green") and features Purple, Tan, & Gold Splatter on one side, and some kind of foil-print on the non-playable side. Here's a pic of a different edition I don't own.
>>65637859
Fucking nice. Got any other SSP/Werewolf vinyl?
I found this Devo bootleg a while ago. I can't find this show anywhere on the internet other than a few songs.

I have a few more SSP on wax: Maléfices, Niantiel, Ouroboros, Heresiarch, Full Blown AIDS, plus a CD and cassette or two. Should take pics of those.
These just came in today.

>>65642974
Oh sorry lol. Yeah I like it a lot the counter weight takes a a couple minutes to set up, but makes the needle press more lightly on the record which will lengthen it's life. It also generally looks nicer than the LP-60 and the needle isn't automatic which I think is so much nicer. I'm sure someone more informed could tell you more perks, but the counterweight is definitely one of the biggest perks.
>>65636504
What is this? Looks cool af
Anon with the beautiful vinyl all other the thread. Could you maybe tag your pics and post what albums they are, It's ok if it's to much trouble. I just want to hear what these beautiful records have to offer.
Got this in the post a few days ago. Pretty pleased. Have to build a collection now. Amp and proper speakers to come too.
Does anybody else think most colored vinyl just seems tacky? Like I can't help but seek out black pressings because everything else looks like a fisher price toy or something, it's just silly to me. Some look good when done tastefully, but bright fluorescent records just look weird.
This just came in from my (year ago?) preorder.
My name is on the thank-you list, so happy.

Are you combining the channels to mono at some point? Maybe a phase problem?
You wouldn't believe the meme records I have.

Actually when I said "original" versus "new" I had it the other way around, I kind of think Backwards is better than TNB. Even though some of the songs that appear on Ape of Naples are pretty blatantly inferior to their final versions.
I'll go back and give both some more time though

Our dollar is pretty low
My TT does not have anything metal that I can ground my preamp on. Wrapping the wire around the RCA connectors sometimes works. Have even tried taking out some of the screws to find a piece of metal that will work. The only reliable way to kill all hum is to touch the ground wire to the headshell and clearly that's not going to fucking work. What the hell can I do?

Fixed it- switched around my cables and grounded the preamp to one of the gold-plated RCAs.

I'm surprised. Especially considering that it's probably even more than this, since I probably overlooked a few records.
