Repost from old thread.

What do you guys do when you run out of ideas to finish a song? I'm feeling frustrated, as I feel so close. Spent the last day programming drums, and except for the verse background, I fucking hate them. How the hell do I get over hating my own stuff to improve?

How do you finish what you hate?

This guitar is worth more than me guitar, my amp and all my pedals
>>
Vox AV15 or Vox VT20X or Blackstar ID:15TVP?

I need an amp for my house that I share with 5 friends. I want good tonez at a low volume. I will be using pedals, all of which are pre-preamp pedals, none of which are gain based pedals.

Or should I drop the extra $100 and get the big brother of each (AV30, VT40X, ID:15TVP)? A larger speaker always sounds better, but a smaller speaker is less likely to annoy my housemates.

I do not gig or play live or anything. I make guitar based music with VST amp sims and plugins, so while recording options are nice, they arent completely necessary.

Any advice?

>How the hell do I get over hating my own stuff to improve?
Just keep working on your music in general. Usually when I end up hating a project I give up on it and move to another one. It works well enough
>>
>>65589022
Here's the thing I'm working on.
https://clyp.it/excn20sg

Any feedback on it? Critique just might help. I hate how the drums go during the first part, but I can't come up with anything that sounds more proper. I was looking at a metal ballad kind of vibe.
>>
>>65589246
I don't like how the drums sound right at the beginning, sounds a bit cheesy and fake. During the other parts it sounds a lot more natural. I dig your guitar playing though. Fun riffs. I can totally understand hating it if you've been working on it for a while. Hearing your own music that much gets tiring. I think it sounds pretty good though. Good enough where you could put it down if you're really hating it that much and call it finished for now, unless some other ideas pop in later.
Keep us updated if you change it, or if you get another project started
>>
>>65589404
Any tips on how to de-cheese the drums? I personally think it's the cymbals that are mucking it up.

dont know much about drums but id start with a traditional drumset. they're already expensive enough.

>>
>>65593823
i'd love to have a traditional drum set, but i'm worried about the noise as i practice. (ironic, i know) also, dragging an entire set to and from every gig sounds like a pain in the ass when i can fit a digital one in a little suitcase.
>>
Well fuck.

I took my guitar to long and mcquade after seeing some anons post and now I have no guitar to play while I wait for them to set it up.
For some reason I thought they would set it up on the spot, but I guess that would've been stupid for them.

I've never felt this bored.
>>
>>65593914
No one will take you seriously with a digital kit unless you're ready to drop at least $3000 on a high end Roland.

Get an acoustic kit. If you're in an apartment, use mute pads. If you live in a house, wear earplugs if you're that worried about the noise.

Drums and cymbals are really light compared to guitar gear, and moving a 4 or 5 piece kit is actually really painless. Every drummer ever has made it work, and so can you if you're serious about drumming.

It's when they (usually) change the strings on your electric guitar and the adjust the intonation (by adjusting the truss rod and saddles on the bridge). This keeps your guitar in tune all the way down the neck when you fret a note.

HELP.

Just bought TU-3. I have a small clone and holy grail on my board. I think they both require 500mA.

I just bought the PCS-20A adapter to daisy chain straight from the tuner. Will this send power to all of the pedals or do I just return the PCS-20A?

9v 500mA center negative is standard boss adapter. I used to buy them at radioshack for like $8. They had a bunch different amps/volts, and a bin of tips so you could use them for anything. Put the tip in backwards, center becomes negative. The only problem now is finding radioshacks

So my friend let me have his Whammy IV because he "lost the power supply years ago and never bothered to get a new one." So I ordered a replacement.

https://amzn.com/B00RM1PEYW

I got it today and it powers up but there is no signal coming through. If there is it is very very quiet. It also produces some annoying feedback/buzz. But this only happens when I run out of the wet output. Dry output is fine.

I saw that this power supply is actually 1A while the stock whammy iv power supply is 1.3A. Could that be the issue? Is it possible it's just a bad output?

please help

Could be the power supply but i dont think so if it works fine from 1 output not the other.

I found this. Maybe it will help:

WHAT IS THE RESET AND PEDAL CALIBRATION FOR THE WHAMMY 4?
Disconnect power.
Press and hold the silver footswitch.
Connect power.
Wait until the light blinks several times.
Let go of footswitch.
Move the pedal all the way through it's full range of motion.
Press and release the silver footswitch again.

Do it yourself. It isn't hard, there's videos and shit on the internet that can help. What are you worried about? Making the frets buzz or messing up electronics?

So I'm seeking a great metal guitar in the 400ish CAD range. I'll be mainly playing Hardcore/Powerviolence/Beatdown Slam shit. Think like Nails, Knocked Loose and Backtrack.

Any suggestions? Been looking into the new Jackson JS32 Dinkys for 2015. Owned an Ibanez RG prestige a few years back and really didn't enjoy it.

Thanks in advance!
>>
>>65600476
Do the jackson. I was seriously about to order one like 10 mins ago, but my wife convinced me to order parts for her truck first instead. So, I'll probably get it next week. Also, Nails is great. Have you heard the new album?

Yea I'm thinking the JS32 Natural Oil. Played in at my local L&M but it had an H SS setup. Played amazingly & yes the new album is an absolute onslaught, beautiful sonic onslaught

I'm prob getting white. My other guitars are black.

Those js32s look like a killer deal. My RG420 (>>65584126) already has wear on the pu ring. It's really weird, the color is just fading off. Only had it a couple months.

Other in the market for the jackson anon here, also have an RG. Older tho, like 2002. Also paint issues. Lots of chips on the edges, and I'm pretty gentle with all my guitars. The biggest surprise is the paint is wearing on then side where it rests on my leg when sitting. Like it's buffed off
>>
>>65601612
Has a point
>>
>>65601692
That's odd, Prestige model? Because I owned a Prestige RG and the paint was the last of my concerns

What do when your knuckles are sore? I have been playing through the soreness and it goes away after a little practice. 'Course the next day I feel the soreness until I practice again. I'm wondering if I should give it a couple days of rest.

There's really no pretending that you're not ugly. It's just a fact at this point. I feel sorry for you but thats just life, move on.

But your poor taste in clothes and guitars doesn't help.

Good luck with the guitar tho. Is it used? Why dont the salespeople know the exact model?

pls elaborate
>>
>>65602152
You think I haven't accepted that a long time ago? High confidence and great people skills really get you a long way though. But yea I'll be going back to get the exact model number, just surprised I honestly can't find any info on it & yea just need a guitar for hardcore. Mainly a blues player myself (for obvious reasons haha)

i really like Jays playing when he does solos or lead fills but the chord progressions in his songs arent as catchy or entertaining as Tys, i wish they made a collaboration together before he died. I think you both are forgeting about Papa John Dwyer though, that man is a beast. i also appreciate the discussion of garage rock goin on

fun fact: i was kicked out of a Ty Segall concert last year, wasn't too bad i only missed Goodbye Bread and The Singer, they didnt do an encore too

Which of these setups would you prefer? Assuming you are doing a mix of live performance, and streaming audio to your PC.

I am moving from acoustic to electric and know nothing about gear. I want to get some gnarly effects (like Loveless), and am not sure that digital effects could pull that off.

I posted this before but you guys were arguing about samefags or tripfags or both but, i play alot of Surf and Garage rock and i want an amp that can do both and im looking at a Deluxe reverb RI with pedals, a hot rod deville or deluxe preferably 2x12, 4x10 or 1x12, a Fender Super Sonic 60 head, and a Fender Bassman 1959' reissue. im leaning towards the Bassman more because of the style and its influence on early surf rock, plus when it gets cranked the dirty tone sounds amazing but i dont know if the reissue can do the same. Im also more interested in it because a guy is selling his locallly for $650 since hes moving away. Will the 4x10 configuration be durable enough for fuzz pedals? Finally does the Super Sonic 60s Bassman channel sound similar?

Here's what I know for ACOUSTIC:
Orchestra - undeniably well balanced
Grand Auditorium - resonates well because of its frequency range
Dreadnought - loud and bassy

Here's what I feel:
Orchestra - quite small in my hands, but good
Grand Auditorium - reverberates well, quite comfortable
Dreadnought - just not for me, but I learned a really difficult song on one

Brands I'm willing to purchase: Furch, Taylor and Martin. I've tried Tanglewood, Freshman, Faith (cheap but made well), Cole Clark (Australian made, READ: different) and McIlroy (shit's expensive, yo). I haven't tried any Gibsons but if it's a jumbo sized body, I'm pretty sure I won't find it comfortable.

So my question to you, /mu/, once I get an acoustic guitar, will I really NEED a pickup? Or will putting the guitar's soundhole next to a mic be enough, for simple recordings and small venue performances?
>>
>>65605622
Why not do both stereo mic and line out to your audio interface?
>>
>>65605622
second one obviously
>>
>>65605622
I recorded with the setup picture below and it worked well.
>>
>>65605707
Wouldnt that be redundant?
>>
Im going to buy my first amp, I have the following two questions:

>What wattage should I get? I plan to practice, play live, and record.
>Should I get a combo or just a head?

I plan to play hot, overdriven post-punk. And also do experimental music with lots of analog pedals.

All-rounders = Blackstar HT Club 40, Vox AC15, Laney VC30 112
Fender = Blues Jr or Supersonic 22
Marshall = DSL40C or 1974x
These amps are all single speakers for easy transport. 212s will break your back.
I chose a Fender Custom Deluxe Reverb, pic related.
>>
>>65605800
definitely a Hot Rod Deluxe, 40watts, 1x12, can take pedals well and are around $350-$400
