Do mu actually have a saying in the alternative music scene? Do people come here to see what's being well received by the users and shape their sound accordingly? Do mu have any influence?

yes.
I'm pretty sure 90% of my friends in college last year got their taste in music from /mu/. Lot of Death Grips & Tame Impala.
pretty sure Deaf Grapes only got big because of Fandango and /mu/. most likely the case with Blank Banshee specifically and vaporwave in general and Car Seat Headrest, too

I got influenced from /mu/
Top 5 artists before /mu/ were
Daft Punk
Foo Fighters
Eminem
Deadmau5
Lil' Wayne
Plus a bit of Katy Perry in there too, dead serious. Now my taste is more like
Flying Lotus
Death Grips
Radiohead
Sufjan Stevens
Kendrick Lamar

Death Grips had a cult following before Fandango came in and ruined them with memes
