>>
>>65396887

>>
>>65397240
Why would I?

Selling out is such a meaningless term, made up by butthurt manchildren who value some sort of ill-defined "authenticity" over the band's actual artistic decision. Maybe it's because I grew up on punk, but I hate this term because literally every punk band that has gotten any level of success has been written off by purists as being sellouts. So that term to me signifies a mindless drone who can't judge music without injecting ill-placed pretension into their opinions.

As for "pseudo-indie", just because a major label act tries to imitate indie rock music of yesteryear (like Imagine Dragons do with artists like Franz Ferdinand, The Strokes, and The Killers) doesn't mean it is automatically bad. Derivative? Yes. But I never implied otherwise. And I don't think derivative music lacks artistic quality as long as you can tell effort and heart went into it, which I believe is the case when it comes to Night Visions. Now their second album, Smoke and Mirrors, is where that criticism applies imo. That record sounds completely manufactured. But Night Visions doesn't, to me at least.

Except it's a well known phenomenon, and everyone you mention it to would know exactly what you mean.

The dictionary definition makes no mention of "authenticity" even being a factor:
>sell-out: a betrayal of one's principles for reasons of expedience.

And the definition of pseudo:
>pseudo: not genuine; a sham

I guess I'm just not a fan of unprincipled derivative sham music, but to each his own I guess.

IMO their only good song is pumped up kicks. The rest of that album sounds way too poppy for me, it feels like I'm eating something so sweet that it makes me sick.

I always dismissed this album because of the Pitchfork review. I mean, I know that people generally agree that the review is bullshit, I just didn't really have any interest in it anyway.

But my mom has been playing it whenever I visit and it's actually amazing.

this is a step above normie core, I don't know what we should even call it, it's so shit it can't be described by words.
>>
>>65402910
It's a good album, just overplayed because it is that good. Unfortunately everything release since has been complete shit. The definition of one hit wonder. At least they made an entire album that was solid rather than one song, which is more than most bands can say.

I think the album is actually pretty even
you have brothersport as the closer, taste is as good as also frightened, and guys eyes and lion in a coma are both only slightly less good than summertime clothes.
I guess bluish and no more runnin are the two worst songs, so maybe it does fall off a little bit

I have the same feelings towards grand romantic as I do some nights, the songs are ok to mediocre except for the title song which is actually good.

They're OK but I'm quite tired of Casablancas' trademark vintage French pop vocals by this point.

What do you mean/what influences do you hear?
>>
>>65406466
this
>>
>>65406517
It's hard to pin down because it's not top list music and not the kind of music I normally listen to. It's that kind of jazzy soul vocals, like Sam Cooke or Otis Redding, where Casablancas goes high and low, loud and quiet, strong and soft, to the point where I don't even know if he's singing to the song or some different track. His manner of singing reminds of French pop for some reason, quite a lot too. Maybe because he sounds a bit posh
>>
Oh so this is the "subtle subversion of the standards on /mu/ yet again to enforce poptimism as the mainstay" thread.
>>
Welp, i like bad music and i am absolutely content with it
>>
>>65406626
That's what I like about them weirdly enough, I think it's different enough to make them stand out
>>
why haven't anybody posted 1989 yet
this one is incredibily good
>>
>>65406916
Yeah but having listened to Tyranny, which tries to be prog as far as I can tell, it just clashed with the record heavily.

I like when the song at least follows where Casablancas is rushing with his vocals. Take "Try a Little Tenderness" for example. The song develops to get louder and stronger, along with Redding's vocals. He sounds in harmony with his band.

And Casablancas just loosely goes around the melody during sections. There's Casablancas singing his song, and there's the band playing the instrumental part; to me they often sound like separate entities. He follows the song section changes; but during the sections, he just goes wherever he wants.

It's ok and good for several songs; but to me this schtick of his got kinda old.

It should be one of your all time favourite bands with a score that high. Or you're just a classic normie who doesn't get grading.
