What a wonderful experience. I didn't enjoy the second album that much but the other tree were perfect. How the fuck did she do that sounds?
I'm probably falling for the Haino meme but imo it's a 9-/10

Dreams by Otomo Yoshihide's New Jazz Ensemble is amazing. That O'Rourke cover surpassing the original and that last song would make the album great on their own, but you have great moments before the two out of this world tracks.
Now that I think about it, I really enjoyed every single track, but it does have a clear peak at the end.
8/10
>>65208461
Relistened to this meme today and it was even better than I remember. I love how the second song, about 10-12 minutes in, breaks into a loose cover of Boney M's "Rasputin." And despite the first track's really loud and repetitive cowbell and weirdly lazy 2-second fade out at the end, I still enjoy that first track more.
Bumping it up from a 3.5 to 4.5 on rym.

Been listening to RAM again lately. I'm still trying to figure out it gets more flak than Daft Punk's previous albums, but I've been thinking it's because they went for a more modernish mainstream style for the album. Their previous albums have a much more distinct style, while this one seems kind of watered down.
It's not necessarily bad, but it's different and I can see why people don't like it.
>>65208898
>I think my gf actually really likes me.
That's what they're supposed to do, right? 0:
Which Haino album did she listen to, anyway?
>>65209288
I think it's because they left their electro and techno roots for natural instrumentation and an altogether smoother house sound, leaving a lot of fans enjoying it but still feeling like there was something not quite right. Maybe that's what you're feeling right now? It's hard to pin, exactly, but that's my going theory.
Also, it's interesting to note that Daft Punk, with RAM, sparked a renewed pop producer interest in real instrumentation and funk influences, as opposed to samples or synthesizers with electro influences. (See: recent output of Mark Ronson, Bruno Mars, Kendrick Lamar, etc.)

Is this the only picture in which Haino is visibly happy?
I’ve scraped my rating system because it’s too much effort and as someone said, you can’t adequately rate an album by rating each individual song. I have to keep using decimals however, for consistency’s sake.
>The Mothers of Invention - Absolutely Free
>3.6
I think Frank Zappa is one of my favourite personalities in music, and while this particular release isn’t outstanding, it’s still great, and definitely keeps me interested in exploring the rest of his discography.
>Van Dyke Parks - Song Cycle
>2.3
An impeccably written first draft of a novel, with a shit story, and half the manuscript was eaten by the author’s dog. I guess i'm just too much of a pleb to understand it.

Sun Kil Moon's Carissa did it for me. That song sets the mood for a transparent soul and loss
>>65212747
Wishlisted. Thanks
>>65212956
Nah. Good answer though.
Has anyone heard of these guys?
>>65213274
It says they opened for deafheaven. That's p cool but I'm not digging this album. Just not my preference.

If you're in a lonely, rainy day-type mood - Jackson C Frank.
If you rate low I will harm myself
>>65214011
Thanks. And I heard a track or two about a year ago and I think I loved it, so that's good.

>John Fahey - Fare Forward Voyagers
Admittedly my first real exposure to John Fahey and American Primitivism in general, but I loved this. Definitely lives up to the hype, in my opinion. While the length of some songs normally works in its favor, I did feel that some parts could have been shorter, such as the first track. On the opposite end of the spectrum, track two felt like it could use more time to develop. The title track was close to perfect.
Definitely going to check out more of this guy.
I don't have a very expansive library since I listen to most music on Youtube. Listening to the Dive album by Tycho right now.

I hadn't even invented the 3 green dotter at that point
my ratings are shit anyways so I wouldn't pay too much attention
>>65215575
I'll let it slide then.
I'm a grad lad now folks.
>>65210008
aye
>>65213021
Yeah def keep trying his stuff out. Especially All of his Mothers output. Glad you liked Faust!
>>65213523
I don't like Bright Eyes as much as I used to, but this album is just so sing-along-able. Poison Oak has made me cry a few times :/
What concerts are you guys planning on going to this year? What concerts have you already been to?
>>65216518
Me and a bud are going to Swans and Boris in a couple months.
I'm tired of having to drive ~3 hours to every concert tho. We don't get a lot nearby where I live.
>>65216518
Hoping to catch Swans in Toronto in July but that depends where I'm working for the summer
Speaking of which my uni radio station is hiring a music coordinator for the summer and I'm going to send them literally the best fucking application I've ever sent before. If I get it I will be one hype nigga.
>>65213947
unfortunatly not on spotify, but I do have it downloaded so I will listen soon
>>65213978
thanks, will probably listen tomorrow
>>65216518
I'm planning to go to see Sunn O))) and King Crimson. The only concert I was was the Roger Waters one, I know he's a meme but the concert was fucking 10/10
>>65216518
>none
>none
Concerts are loud, crowded and exhausting. No thanks.
>>65216602
>Boris
they are playing like 3 hours from me in a small record store, but I may or may not be in another part of the country at the time so I probably won't go :(((
>>65216602
Gonna see Boris and Earth, too. I lucked out because they're playing New Haven. I might check out Swans, but I wish my nearest venue had Okkyung Lee like some of the other ones did.
I'm also going to the shitty local Blues festival because they somehow managed to get Dr. John to show up.
Connecticut is in the unfortunate position of being near a bunch of big cities (so nobody comes here), but still too far to make a drive worth it half the time. There's only a handful of artists I'd drive out of state for.
>>65216717
I've missed King Crimson multiple times due to various bullshit things.
I saw that Roger Waters Wall video, and it seemed pretty cool. I'm not a big fan of The Wall, but he put on a hell of a show for someone in his 70s.
>>65216797
Bummer! :(
>>65216806
Fricking rad. My Swan concert has Okkyung Lee, but I know nothing about her.
>>65216837
>I know nothing about her
She plays the cello like a demon.

>>65216518
Mostly local shows. Often times bigger names charge far more (which I don't blame, they have to keep up with travel costs and all) but I can't always afford to do so.
>>65216518
>What concerts have you already been to?
The Who Quadrophenia tour
Rush
(end of dadrock dayz)
Viet Cong (small show, super dope)
>tfw you'll never see "Viet Cong" again
Swans TBK tour (shook Gira's hand and got him to sign my vinylz :) )
Iceage + Father Murphy + some other local dudes (also very small show, got shoved around like a motherfucker but it's all good because I'm not a bitch)
Parquet Courts Sunbathing Animal tour (absolute front and center, got fucked up HARD that concert, had bruises on my legs from getting shoved into the stage for 3 weeks). Also smoked joints with the band after the show :^)
Also literally every local band in my home town and college town
>>65216891
Any good local acts? Everything around where I live is either shitty emo or forgettable rap. Everyone decent goes to Providence.
>>65217037
I'm friends with most of them so it's hard to say objectively
I always have a good time and I think they're great musicians
Here's one of my good buddy's band you guys should all check out and support :)
https://headswirl.bandcamp.com/
>>65217107
That was pretty good for a garage band. Better than most acts around me, for sure. I liked the singer's voice, and the harmonica on bon jovi was an interesting choice.
>>65211863
could be a crackhead who got ahold to da wrong stuff and it told him to get up in the tree and play a leprechaun
>>65212668
>"""folk"""
Pic related tho
>>65216518
Going to Gov Ball next weekend, and hopefully the Cigarettes After Sex show a few days before that, and then maybe the Brian Wilson show the next weekend, all in NYC. Might try to see Swans in July if it isn't already sold out.
