What's with all this talk about SILY vs. other plunderphonics albums? Plunderphonics isn't even a genre; it's an approach to making music. SILY sounds nothing like, say, Replica by OPN, or An Empty Bliss Beyond This World (which is more purely plunderphonics, btw), so what's the point in arguing about whether or not there are better plunderphonics records? You may as well shitpost in a metal thread about how classical guitarists are better.
The Avalanches made one of the best sample-based dance records of the past few decades. There are arguably better plunderphonics records well-known and obscure, similar and different in feel, but The Avalanches have carved out a name for themselves for a reason.

That might account for a lot of the love they get right now but it doesn't explain why it was critically acclaimed when it was released. We're not talking about some FOTM thing that just got BNM, these guys are respected and their follow-up has been anticipated for over a decade whether you like them or not.
Also, what's this talk about being challenging? Does SILY really strike you as music meant to challenge? It's finely crafted, meticulously compiled and incredibly fun sample-based dance music. If people want to be challenged they can go listen to Autechre; not all music serves all functions.
