When I realised the extent to which people would go in their love of the show. Porn was expected, of course, but the toy collecting, fervent cosplaying, buying plushes that cost hundreds or even thousands of dollars...I realised it had gone too far when it became less of a hobby and more of a lifestyle for many of my friends.
As for me, I don't own any merchandise, but I eagerly keep up with the show because I love the music and characters. I visit /mlp/ once in a great while

The whole point of the show is to produce a girl-targeted TV show that can be enjoyed by others around her(i.e. parents and siblings) by not adhering to traditional girly things like tea parties and dress-up. It breaks barriers of modern children's TV and is a great influence for our youth.
So what if people outside of the target audience? It's fun to watch and it makes me happy.

What not everyone realizes is that Visions is extraordinary in the fact Claire scrapped it together in a few weeks. It makes sense when she spent a year on an album (Art Angels), it was easily top 5. I'm not sure I'd place it at the number 1 spot (Carrie & Lowell, Divers, and Have You in My Wilderness were also extraordinary), but it's absolutely a masterpiece. It's sad she wants to stop producing music for a while.

For better or worse, I started listening to and enjoying to her music before I knew what she looked like. I'm not a waifufag and don't care what she looks like.
I'll admit her very feminine and young-sounding voice probably was part of the appeal to me, since I am a dude. But I think she uses it well. And also, the instrumentals are great.
