overall rating can consider the album as one large piece and how the tracks interact
also, just the average rating can be pretty easily swayed. consider a 1/10 song a minute and a half long, but a 12 minute 10/10 song on the same album. that would average to 5/10 even though that's obviously not representative of the quality of the entire release
