"Transcendental Black Metal" sounds tacky as fuck and is very misleading.
You know what Liturgy (and Advaita)'s music style should be called? Crystal. Or maybe white crystal if you want some color.
Think about it. HHH is obsessed with making pure, shiny and new-agey music. That's why he puts all those bells and MIDI sounds and makes his guitar sound as tinny and high-pitched as possible. He doesn't want his music to sound Metal, he wants it to sound crystalline.
And obviously there's his song titles and imagery, it's always about glass and pearls and diamond and gems and shit. And let's not forget his "prismatic" city of aesthethica. And finally he likes 3DCG visuals, that are based on simple polygons, like crystals, which could be likened to Platonic solids and shit like that.
So if he's smart, he'll drop "transcendental meme metal" and call his music "crystal". That way people won't give him shit for defacing black metal, and he'll do his own thing.
THEN, once this is done, we can play an evil-sounding version of it called "dark crystal".

There is literally nothing wrong with enjoying Botanist.
Funeral doom's arguably the only atmo-metal genre that doesn't get worshiped by hipster scum, largely because its far more rooted in metal and not shitty hipster trends. Atmoblack, atmosludge, post/gaze shit gets circlejerked by them all the time but I've never seen hipsters at all bring up funeral doom. Recent atmoblack, the entirety of atmosludge all have alt-rock tendencies. Funeral doom doesn't.
The reason for this being is that funeral doom isn't like atmoblack at all. Look at all the fucking atmoblack bands that are just molesting a keyboard while generic, riffless tremolos blare in the background, compared to most funeral doom bands which are essentially slowed down death/doom generally with funeral dirge music playing over it, or depressing, brooding synth music but not ambient. You'll notice that atmoblack is largely devoid of riffs and is generally dissonant to mask the fact that they have no concept of writing actual metal, whereas funeral doom just consists of slow doom metal riffing with no effects covering up any lack of talent.
Atmoblack comes from garbage like burzum, or newer waves coming from garbage like lustre and alcest.
Funeral doom comes from bands who make actual metal like Esoteric, Skepticism diSEMBOWELMENT.
Atmoshit along the lines of atmoblack sells to hipsters because it's minimalistic, riffless, balless "retrospective sad man in the woods crying over things". Funeral doom doesn't sell to hipsters because it's hardly minimalistic, still rooted in metal, has balls, and paints imagery dark fantasies like humanity pathetically being whiped off the face of the earth by an evil necromancer.

My father listened to Rammstein, Nightwish, Within Temptation, Glam Metal and Rock and I listened with him until I was around 12, where I started listening to hip hop for a while until eventually venturing back to those bands and expanding my tastes from there (ending up at deathcore) along the line, but I wouldn't say I grew up with it since I didn't really listen to much else from that.

I really don't understand these people, but I don't think they have an actual appreciation for any kind of music. I, myself, and I assume most of you actively seek out new things to listen to on our own and try to judge things for ourselves. Because we enjoy it.
To pick up a hobby for image alone bothers me to no end, it's like girls playing vidya for Twitch viewiers or other kinds of attention, for example. But it doesn't matter what hobby it is, that kind of shit makes you a faggot.
That being said, I still think most people drop the metalhead image in their teens. My hair's still pretty long, like just above my shoulders but I don't feel the need to identify with something or label myself just because of the music I like.
