actually the OP was first, so...
THIS SONG A SHIT
A SHIT
Was expecting a song way darker given those chords Thom has teased over the years. It gets tense at the end but still. It's a good song. I need the whole album now though.
Disappointing to be honest lads.
>>64554955
fuck off i dont want it anymore !

Next album will be worse than TKOL if this song is on it.

Ikr? What were they thinking? They've probably been listening to too much coldplay.
>>64554979
The irony here is that Burn the Witch is a song that was written/arranged during the Amnesiac era.
Literally. They were waiting for the opportunity to do an orchestral arrangement before recording it.

BECAUSE THIS IS AMERICA FAGGOT I DO WHAT I WANT

Except its not. Not everyone will enjoy everything a band puts out but you can't say that 4chan in general has a lot of contrarians who hate anything new to seem cool.
For those who are feeling underwhelmed: DON'T LISTEN TO THE YOUTUBE VERSION... it's far more compressed and the mix is so much worse that it is actually of determent to the song.
https://mega.nz/#!v9hR2DaC!jQEnsvR6UsIm8CIqo2ypkaJo91G0jgv2GB8mH-7-8bE
Here is a FLAC version for those who are interested.
Thom Yorke is the single most overrated vocalist in music.
His moaning, pointless "WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAOUUUUUUWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAOUUUUUUUAHHHHHHHHHHHHH" shit is getting pretty fucking old.
>>64554907
I feel immensely out of place right now because I agree with a lot of the comments and think this is just kinda average. It just lacks any kind of staying power for me - It feels like a filler track.
Shit, I enjoyed Spectre a lot more.

that's literally the oppisite, at first everyone is blinded by the hype, I remember when TLOP was released and people said it was a literal perfect album with not a single flaw, a few days latter everyone finally realised how utter shit it was.
what is the song about
>>64555239
THIS. The teasers from 2008 sound so much better than what we actually got. The song is fine but they missed it being truly special if they ran with the piano chords they had a few years ago.
They lost the magic it's ogre
>>64555212
Kid A was quite a drastic change from OKC
This isn't really a big change at all, but rather a continuation of Thom's solo work + TKoL

dont you just hate the feeling when your fav bands release bad material
you slowly watch their fans turn against them
when you see them you silently groan through the new music with everyone else and wait for the old classics
i feel so bad not to like music theyve spent months on and completely believe in

Well fuck I like it.
Orchestral arrangements dope.
Drums and drum machine are dope.
Colin is irrelevant as usual, so dope.
Thom sucks. But he's an old wanker now.
I think TKOL will always be there bottom of the barrel for me.
This album will be a decent comeback.
But I think they're past saving.

Listening to King of Limbs at the moment, and I honestly don't get the hate. It's like In Rainbows but even dreamier. Bloom, Morning Mr Magpie, Little by Little, Codex Seperator are such top-tier songs.
Very hyped for the next album though, I always loved Amnesiac and this Single reminds me of it alot.

Not true, especially not with Radiohead. Everyone on this board hated tkol when it came out, but now people see how good it is. You'd know that if you'd been here longer than five minutes
reminder that if LITERALLY ANY OTHER BAND had released this song they would have been hailed as geniuses
>>64555656
No OKC is babbys first radiohead
Their time with EMI and Capitol was their best music period. They had one good indie record with In Rainbows and then I think they now need fuel or motivation to bring them back down to earth.

Burn the Witch lyrics:
Stay in the shadows
Cheer at the gallows
This is a round-up
This a low-flying panic attack
Sing a song on the jukebox that goes
Burn the witch
Burn the witch
(intelligible)
Red crosses on wooden doors
If you float, you burn
Loose talk around tables
Abandon all reason
Avoid all eye contact
Do not react
Shoot the messengers
This a low-flying panic attack
Sing the song of sixpence that goes
Burn the witch
Burn the witch

Pic related. Then again there's a lot of physical effort in dancing for a couple of hours
Also, has any more info on the album come out yet?
>>64555848
I dont like rock radiohead I like bleep blop radiohead. The bends is as bad as pablo honey in my opinion (both 5/10). OkC is to tame except for paranoid android which is the best radiohead song in their entire discography. Radiohead is best when they experiment with synths and atmospheric sounds. When they try rock they make whiney pop ballads (some exceptions like bangers and mash)

Wait, do people really think TKOL was better than this? Lotus Flower was a fucking abomination in comparison with this song

Some put Amnesiac up there as well, but the people who like TKOL/HTTT the most are small

Maybe in the album the song will be paired with a followup track that will continue to develop this idea.

This is the exact problem with most of their last album. This is the exact same band that made TKOL, not one bit redevelopment

HTTT is good, a little bloated but has some great songs.
TKOL is mediocre.
I don't really expect anything but a pleasant, very well produced, and pretty interesting album personally. I do think it will be better than TKOL if the other songs are this level.
TKOL is fucking horrible in my opinion.
>>64556254
I did...but that also mean i'm old...
Radiohead made an extremely calculated effort with TKOL to try and get people to stop expecting them to be revolutionaries every time they put an album out, and there are still people mad that this song didn't beckon in a new era of music
People are fucking stupid, rigid things
this song is pretty good

TKOL, although this sounds like the new album is going to be a lot more fleshed out than TKOL. TKOL is pretty skeletal but still has some the bleeps, strings and production that you'd expect of current Radiohead.

agree. Bad choice for a single, concept wise.
But the track does offer a great insight of this new direction their taking.
fuck the more i listen to it the more i like it.
it gets me hyped for the next songs. although i feel like the orchestration at the beginning is very Coldplay-ish and i wish they would have found some other way to begin the song.
Although the discordance that is hinted at towards the end will, I hope, be the redeeming factor on the rest of the album.
Id really like to see them expand on that anxious/tense feeling.
I could make this shit
Fuck Radiohead I'm done, they burned out a long time ago
>>64556336
Yes, I'm trying to appear interesting. Eat a dick, nerd.
If it's the most catchy song on Lp9, we're in for a wild ride...
Burn The Witch is like a poor mans Taking Back Sunday, dont understand the appeal
>>64556295
I mean shit, TKOL is not a TERRIBLE album per se, its (according to /mu/ anyways) a terrible RADIOHEAD album. Compared to Kid Cudi's new album or something along those lines, its a fucking masterpiece.
>>64554907
It¨s a pretty good song, a bit dull, Thom's singing is really good though and i love the ending.
Other than that I hope the album isn't like this all the way through, and I don't expect it to be.

The band released their shortest album ever after a few interviews where they openly decry the "creative hoo-ha" of shutting themselves in the studio to try and release a grand statement of an album, and then did absolutely no marketing or touring for it for almost a year. If you couldn't figure out what the point was, you're dim.

The orchestration has so much more energy than any bland "oh it's pretty cause it's violins" shit Coldplay would pull. There's tension and a pulse to it. In shit like Paradise the violins are just slow, dull chord progressions.

Can I just tell you guys how much I enjoyed this song? RH back to releasing game changing, genre bending music instead of electronic filler like King of Limbs. You can tell how Jonny Greenwood put his soul and guts into this piece of art. It's amazing to be alive in the time of Radiohead releasing new music. Can't wait to hear other artists start to copy the orchestral elements of Burn the Witch and the rest of LP9 only to fail miserably because they don't have two absolute geniuses spearheading the creative process.

They already did that with HttT though. Nothing revolutionary about that album- it's like a more conventional, longer version of Amnesiac.
>>64556488
you maybe right, but it doesnt stop me from getting that vibe.
Overall the song is texturally interesting. And i understand how that "cheery" little orchestration can be a deliberate contrast to the message and anxiety behind it.
Just wish it hadn't started that way is all
>>64556432
Thanks friendo
>>64556104
True. But i guess music is all about expectations. Song structure creates expectation. Those expectations don't have to be fulfilled for a track to be good/enjoyable in fact the opposite can often be true. But to me and others the track created an expectation of change of some sort that never happened.
Think it's impossible to disentangle music from expectations. It's an art form that unfolds over time.
Not a fan of this new direction Radiohead have adopted with their music. Really wish they would go back to the way they were in the late nineties with the Bends and Karma Police. That's Radiohead for me.
I hope it's like Lotus Flower and on the album it will be followed up by a Codex and a Give Up the Ghost

To be honest, I was trying to troll but after I wrote it I realized it's how I genuinely feel
Just afraid to admit it because of how much I respect the group, and the artists in the band. I'm just not that into their post In Rainbows output. Actually I really haven't liked them as much since OK Computer, now that I'm older. I used to like Kid A and everything but these days if I want Radiohead I go with The Bends and OK Computer.
They're too fucking miserable and depressing and after a while it gets old. It doesn't work when the singing is so flat and lifeless as it is on this, and TKOL. I'm not buying it, I don't want to listen to it, and since we have access to their older music this shit is completely worthless to me, to be perfectly honest. I'll put it on a few times. It has positive qualities I just don't really want to listen to it.
