Listen to your library, show off your backlog, babble about new music, tell us what you have been listening to today and what you will listen to in the following month, just let the good times flow.

http://www.scaruffi.com/history/jazz.html
>I think that "black" is more precise and, ultimately, more politically correct. Thus i use "black musician" to mean what USA citizens refer to as "African-American musician". If no nationality is provided, then it means that the black person is from the USA (this book is mostly about the USA, so it would be redundant to keep repeating "black USA musician"). I write both "black" and "white" lower case. Occasionally i lapse into the "African-American" thing myself, but that should be in a broader context (when i am indeed talking about the two continents).
>In my texts on rock music, the reader can safely assume that the musicians are white unless otherwise specified. In this book on jazz music, the reader can safely assume that the musicians are black unless otherwise specified. Thus i will note that Steve Lacy is white and will not note that Miles Davis is black the same way that rock biographers emphasize that Jimi Hendrix was black but do not emphasize that Bob Dylan was white.

This was pretty great, It was like the magic that was brought to Vision Creation Newsun but RAWER. It's fun, wild, energetic, and with tons of interesting explorations with chanting.
>Boredoms - Super Roots 2
>psychedelic
Whatever Super Roots was, this was the opposite. It's much more wild and discoherent, some of that magic was definitely lost when this was made. It seemed like they were making an effort to annoy the listener. The only saving grace was it's 6 1/2 minute run time.

dj jubilee- take it to the st. thomas
new orleans bounce
this album basically kicked off bounce as a genre, and it is a classic of sorts now. rightfully so- it's about as fun an joyous (dj jubilee is a very apt name) as booty shakin music can be. the album is a bit too long though. a good third could be trimmed and it would be more potent overall for it. still, it's a great listen and a genuine challenge to not move your body to the beat in some way.
the music demands movement!
your enjoyment of this record may or may not hinge on your willingness to submit to thigh and ass jiggling.
favorite track: back that ass up
mindflayer & deep jew- bored fortress split EP
noise
mindflayer, yet another outlet for noise-rock god Brian Chippendale, meets forces with noise/powerviolence experts Deep Jew for an extremely brief and extremely potent trio of songs, the first by mindflayer, the following two by deep jew. mindflayer's starts with an intense shrill, and quickly grows into a classic chippendale balck pus-esque freakout capitalized by speed adjustments and electronic components- gives one the image that the recording equipment is failing under the sonic strain. pretty neat.
deep jew doesn't deviate from the style expressed in their album Ugliest Man/Dog Blood, but that's not at all a bad thing.
favorite track: Cops Wet Pussy (deep jew)

One album to go before I finished the first round of my tourney, hold with me. In the meantime here's a little update on my freeform chart:
Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers - Free for All (1965)
>hard bop
This is fucking stellar. I mean it's hard to go wrong with such a line-up, but this exceeds every possible expectation. The players fit so well together and I don't even know what to say, just listen.
This gets a !.
Quatuor Ébène / Gautier Capuçon / Matthias Goerne - Schubert: Quintet and Lieder (2016)
>classical stuff, I dunno
I really liked their 2010 Mendelssohn recording which I listened to when droning Karenin and this was just as good. The string quintet is fucking stellar, but the liedern are a little less exciting. Recommended listen overall, if only for the string quintet.
This gets a +.
>Klaus Schulze - Moondawn
Still doesn't interest me much. Lots of dated synth sounds, of course, but both tracks are about the same in that they don't go anywhere. This one begs a lot of patience. 4.5/10
>The Neville Brothers - Yellow Moon
This is peak '90s cheese, but it takes some big risks that work out to something pretty funky on occasion. Most notably "Sister Rosa"--essentially a rap song about Rosa Parks. It's absurd but actually one of the catchier songs. The title track is another highlight. 5/10

Jeff Mills - Live at the Liquid Room, Tokyo (1996)
>detroit techno
A shot of musical adrenaline straight to the heart. Energetic, hypnotic, brain-melting, and really technically impressive as well. The samples and the way the tracks just flow into each other is something to behold. Nyar, I think my pump-up mix for you might just be this in its entirety.

oh you made the thinking fellers - filler list! good work. nice taste btw
>Bedhead - What Fun Life Was
A really nice and comfy slowcore album. My only real gripe with it is that i think the lyrics should have been brought up a bit in the mix because it's not like shoegaze where the vocals are really just another instrument. I see no real benefit to having the lyrics in some of the songs pretty much unintelligible, but its still great nonetheless. 7/10

what the hell? this has no excuse for being so boring. initially it was like a more electronic, slightly more compelling black pus, but after the first 5 minutes it was spent. two 17-minute tracks was a bad idea. this album was a chore and i'm not even sure what went wrong. I guess that's why there hasn't been a mindflayer release since 05. i'm glad chippendale put his energy in to Lightning Bolt and Black Pus.

Just listened to my first Duke Ellington record--pic related.
The whole thing was pretty nice, a plenty lively. As with a bunch of live albums, the enthusiastic crowd cheering cutting in at the end of each track kind of breaks up the album while kind of bringing the whole deal together as one live performance. It's hard to qualify. Either way, the last track is really fucking good. Like, the 'dangerous to those with restless leg syndrome' kind of good, and it just keeps getting better across all 15 minutes.

Don't let your dreams be dreams. Go find Ariel Pink's mom and make her sell you a PS2 Guitar Hero guitar.
>>64539131
That album art is awesome. Too bad the actual music sucks.
>>64539274
Salty bet is the perfect thing to have on when im just spacing out at my computer. It's so fun to watch and its been gaining popularity lately which is pretty cool.
>>64539274
i used to watch salty bet for hours until i fell asleep. i'll prob try to pick that habit back up

did you listen to the original or the complete?
>He thinks Live I is better than Live II
>>64539455
Original. The complete version is like over two hours.
>>64539318
Jeeps blues is the best jazz song of all time.
>>64539499
true, but it's very different. you probably already know that the original is only about 20% live.
>>64539318
Do yourself a favor and check out the Complete 2CD version. So many great songs weren't on the original.

>Land of milk and honey with the swirls
>where reckless nekkid girls get necklaces of pearls
>the apartments- no song, no spell, no madrigal
>indie pop-folk
this was super cozy and enjoyable. I think it might take a while, but this could become a favorite, maybe. it's VERY similar to Lambchop and slightly similar to Destroyer. Shades of sufjan as well.

I got reminded to listen to Doomsday in full finally. heard and enjoyed most of his other stuff, so this was unsurprising, but didn't fall below my expectations. mad groovy. scooby doo samples were glorious.
I listened to a lot of stuff today, wow
i'm certain, one of these WILL be my personal AOTY, as well as objectively best release of the year

relistening to MBDTF with a friend
there are a few great moments so far like in Dark Fantasy (which was my favorite song when I first heard it) and All of the Lights but the rest of it ranges from okay to mediocre
I'll have to see if my opinion changes as the album goes on
