He's fucking British.
>>
>>64499628
Yeah but they're like completely different people to what they were back in the day and they're not making videos like this.
>>
>>64499550
Idk the part with the police car and the part where they're smashing up the car and spraypainting "FUCK YOU" on it and the part where they spraypainted "CUNT" on things and the random Russian subtitles all came off as very cringey.

Especially considering this is a grown man.
>>
>>64499550
I think the concept of the genre is cool and the instrumentals are good but the flows are all the same and the lyrics are all the same and the fans are really pretentious which just makes it a lot worse than it should be.
>>
>>64499961
This. As an American UK police officers are like the least intimidating thing on earth. I feel like he's just trying to cash in on the anti-police attitude/BLM stuff going on over here.
>>
what the hell is cringey or edgy about this?
>>
>>64500120
>stupid russian subtitles
>filmed in some abandoned dirty building
>bunch of grown men literally surrounding a police car while it's driving and kicking at it/pulling on the doors
>bunch of grown men literally jumping on a car and kicking it and smashing the windows and spraypainting all over it

It literally looks like something out of a teenage edgelord's Tumblr page.

You weren't alive back then Skeppy. What on Earth are you talking about.

All rap is cringey and edgy. There's no difference between this video and those of NWA or Public Enemy; it's the same ideological content expressed in an identical manner.

Rappers are not smart. It's weird how many people don't get this because it's completely obvious to any successful college graduate that Kendrick could never pass calculus and Kanye could never read a book that goes more than five pages without pictures.

Most of these "musicians" blatantly plagiarize the melodies of already famous and successful songs, probably because they sincerely don't know how to play instruments.

If their political views seem childish and prone toward blaming invisible authority figures for all their personal problems, it's because rappers themselves are immature, intellectually, artistically, and emotionally. They make the most repetitive and simple music on the planet for a reason.

Maybe he just got bored of writing serious songs. Nothing wrong with a song that tells you how to mummify your cat.
You shouldn't discard a whole artist as a meme just because he made a couple of goofy songs.
>>
>>64501838
Yeah but that's not what I want to listen to. I don't like goofy music. One of the things that I like about hip hop/rap that you don't get in other genre's is it's self positivity all these artists have a high sense of self worth as opposed to other genres and as someone who grew up listening to Death Cab and other various whiney music. It's nice and refreshing, it makes me what to chase my goals and it's all around just better to listen to in company than a other stuff.

And the vast majority of his music is very serious, no need to cherrypick.

Rap sounds nice for partying and working out or something. It only can elicit a few moods. It's just soo limited in what it can do as art. You can change the samples, the structure, lyrics, whatever. It still is stale.

>Muh opression
>Boast track
>hedonism
>epix diss
>my girl/senpai/crew
>politics
>some story

the problem is not only these rough lyrical limitations (obvs there are exceptions but lezbereal), but also the delivery only varies in how clever the wordplay is or rhythm. I know there may be some gem deviations, but the the LARGE majority is one dimensional, barely creative, not clever, has nothing meaningful to say that hasn't been said 1milly times, and captures the artists emotional state with the depth of a kiddie pool.
>>
>>64502039
>but the the LARGE majority is one dimensional, barely creative, not clever, has nothing meaningful to say that hasn't been said 1milly times, and captures the artists emotional state with the depth of a kiddie pool.
Doesn't that apply to every genre?
>Muh opression
>Boast track
>hedonism
>epix diss
>my girl/senpai/crew

Doesn't that apply to like every genre too?

The majority music of any genre is garbage, you just need to find those gems and listen to them.
>>
>>64502152
>Doesn't that apply to like every genre too?
No, it applies specifically to hip hop, a genre which focuses more on lyrics and public image rather musical skill (because most of the major figures within the genre have none).

Yeah but the limited moods it can capture are elementary and it will never be able to reach an artistic level on par with others, thus shouldn't be taken as seriously. It's like claiming that cheetos should be allowed in a gourmet food competition. No amount of flavor variations will ever make cheetos on the same level.

>2 Chainz graduated Harvard with a 4.0 gpa

>This is a rumor, and one that I'm pretty sure is false.
>A few months ago when the 2 Chainz hype machine was building up steam, there were a series of Tweets circulating around Twitter claiming that 2 Chainz was a basketball star at Alabama State University and graduated with a 4.0. Later messages also claimed that he graduated from college in three years, although this isn't consistent because I've seen other messages saying he graduated in four years. These messages have been picked up by a variety of blogs and websites, none of which bothered to research the veracity of the Tweets.
>It is true that 2 Chainz played basketball in college. In his freshman year at Alabama State (1996-1997), he appeared in 24 of their 29 games and averaged 3.0 points per game (http://bamastatebeat.com/roster_player/tauheed-epps). But he doesn't appear on their roster after 1997, so it's safe to say that while he played college hoops, he only played one year.
>He had an interview with Vibe Magazine last year where he said that he transferred to Virginia State after his freshman year, but he flunked out. Unfortunately, the online version of the interview has since been erased. (http://www.vibe.com/article/2-chainz-opens-about-why-he-was-named-tity-boi-tru-realigon-mixtape-and-his-use-codeine). Regardless, it's hard to flunk out of college if you're a 4.0 student.
>There is only one thing I can tell you for sure. If you look at Alabama State University's Wikipedia page, 2 Chainz, born Tauheed Epps, is on their notable alumni list, but he doesn't have a graduation year listed. That usually means the person attended the university but never graduated.

There's nothing cool about what skeptas doing, it's fucking cringeworthy pandering to his western fans.
He knew good and well that when he walked up to the cop car they wouldn't do shit, if he tried that in the US he'd get lit the fuck up immediately

I've heard the Titch version and it's terrible he's literally just shouting, there's no flow or rhythm to it at all and he's not saying anything interesting or clever.

What genuinely makes that better than Stormzy's?

Listen to Functions on its own.
It's an incredibly stripped-down instrumental with barely any progression.
Titch' shouting is just that, progression and emotion.
All the best tunes featuring MCs use the MC's voice as tool to do just the.
Listen to Top Cat's version of Spend the Night, the voice is what draws you into the tunes, the voice is why you're gonna be dancing.

Sure, Shut Up has a fun meme bar, but Stormzy doesn't add anything to the tune. He's just sorta there.
A good MC carries the tune with his voice and not the other way around.

Yeah but none of the rappers are rapping over them and people care about the rappers right now, that's where the buzz is.

And when they do, the producers tend to completely simplify their instrumentals, and the rappers just chat the same old bullshit about beating people up.

>>
>>64525056
I like the way it sounds I just don't like how its hardly evolved as a genre.

Yeah, some of the producers have gotten better and have started experimenting, but the MCs are still exactly the same. They still rap over the same beats, they still repeat the same lyrics about the same things, they still use the same flows. They're all still painfully average.

Grime really should've evolved to the point where someone could put out a decent tape or album by this point, but there's still only one good grime project in existence.

I mean, Kano's most recent album shows this off perfectly. Listen to it. 99% of the tracks are relatively boring hip-hop instrumentals, but Kano's lyricism, flows, etc are fucking incredible here. It's lyrically fantastic. Then a grime instrumental comes on and its the same old boring ignorant lyrics with the same old flow and its just shit.
>>
>>64525152
eski beats is its own ting senpai

>>
>>64525347

The new "darker' aesthetic of grime is probably my favourite right now. Best grime tracks of 2016 imo are

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XlrKNWx4HKo
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sp4TYGMsF5U
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SP4G0rFyPfY

Wish they would improve lyrically. That Eklipse guy in particular has some really lyrically impressive tracks on his SoundCloud but they're all over hip-hop beats. When a grime instrumental comes on he just goes all stereotypical boring and ignorant. Don't know why.
>>
>>64525433
Do you know why grime is called grime?
Do you really think that eski doesn't fit the name in the slightest?
