hi /mu/. do you like cocteau twins? what's your favorite album from them?
>>
Favorite band, anon.

I like everything but I suppose maybe Treasure or Victorialand, although I like the album with Harold Budd.

Really, listen to everything. Especially any EP from the mid-late '80s.
>>
head over heels!

>>64371515
my favorite band too, love everything by them.

When people debate about their favorite female musician or singer here, always surprised how there isn't more Elizabeth adoration.

I don't know how anyone can hear her voice and not come to almost kind of worship it.

Probably the most profound musical phenomenon to emerge in the last 30 years... best case I can think of for a talent being described as a spiritual or transcendent gift or object.

There is just such an ecstasy to it - every emotion at once flooding through.

i had listened to treasure a couple of years ago but didn't care for it that much. like a year ago i started listening to them again, all the albums, and they clicked with me in a massive way. i agree she and the band seem to be really underrated here on /mu/. there's literally no one like her

First time I heard them was at a friend's record store. He told me he knew I would love them, and put on Treasure on the store's (pretty good) sound system and I laid on a couch in the back room and had one of those holy fuck moments. Especially during Lorelei.

>>
Would they play well at a party? Or would everyone think i'm a fag?
>>
>>64371815
haha that webm

that's beautiful. I love seeing people be moved like that.
>>
Victorialand > Heaven Or Las Vegas > Treasure = Blue Bell Knoll > The Moon and Melodies > Head Over Heels

Not heard a single bad album from them so far.
>>
>>64371866
Art kids love them. The drone/psych/noise/'hypnagogic'/vapor crowd pretty much worship them.

Goth kids too.

Might not go over at a jock party, but actually in my experience most people have a really good reaction to them and are really moved.
>>
>>64371912
and you might actually score points with cute art girls for playing them. stuff like that and Slowdive go over well
>>
>>64371866
my bf is pretty plen and likes them. says her voice is amazing. don't do it tho if it's a normie party

they're dreamy and romantic and trippy and dark and ambient and sad and joyful and gothic and gauzy and full of yearning for some perfect Other

My second favorite band. Listened to them 3 years ago and for some reason I just didn't like Elizabeth Fraser's voice, but now I think it's just about the most heavenly thing I've ever heard.

Blue Bell Knoll is quintessential imo, super underrated.

I don't want them to become /mu/core
>>
>>64372581
why would that change anything?
>>
>>64372581
Yeah it's kind of surprising they're still a bit of a secret.

I chalk it up to almost being too pure and profound to be discussed out in the open, somehow.
>>
>>64372510
Fear of Music should be next on your list.

I also personally LOVE 77 to death, it's so jerky and neurotic and has some of the best hooks of any Talking Heads record. 77 is not really like Remain in Light at all though, production or songwriting-wise. They weren't working with Brian Eno yet and were still in their punkish CBGB phase.
>>
Loved four calendar cafe desu weird to see no one has said it yet

i thought the bottom left was Spoony when i saw the catalog thumb

>>64372655
I'll check it out, thanks
>>
Yeah, they really should get credit for being one of the very few bands that had a perfect run.

They're legends and only their cult knows it (but people who love the Cocteaus reeeaally love them)

>>
>>64371465
I do think they're great, but I prefer their gothic/post-punk days more than their dream pop days. Not necessarily better, but more my sort of thing.
>>
GOAT. Make sure you guys don't miss out on the Love's Easy Tears EP. All four songs on there are godtier.

I think I got into them from clicking on random videos of theirs on youtube years ago. Meme all you want, but I still think that's a good way of discovering bands with deep catalogs and tons of obscure shit. That shum guy is a god.
>>
>>64373339
youtube is just another portal into this stuff now, that's cool.

This seems like a nice thread so I'm going to let you in on a gem. Try pic related:

Chequerboard - The Unfolding

I gather it was mixed by Ken Thomas who also did some work for the Cocteau Twins.

It's beautiful and dreamy ambient acoustic guitar and fingerpicking with subtle electronic chimes. Highly recommended.

THE DEVIL MIGHT STEDDY ME HWAX AND HWAYNE

Theyre pretty tight

Everyone says Four-Calendar Cafe and Milk & Kisses are when Cocteau Twins sold out but I still think they're neat albums.
Treasure or Blue Bell Knoll are my favs though.
