Ha, I haven't listened to The Village yet so I can't compare them. Yanga was really good; the compositions were very smooth yet engaging and the way all the elements meld together impressed me.

I just enjoy blending different styles to create something new. There's no need to "preserve" when the traditional already exists in spades; why not try for something unique and totally your own? I personally think it's fascinating to see just what you can create.

I'd be happy if them upheld the traditions rather than watering it down
and there is a need to preserve it for future generations to enjoy and be influenced by, as it stands it's all getting eaten up by this mediocre style blending shit influenced only with the thought of money and fame
and it's never unique, they all sound the same
In every music club I hear the most boring bastardized version of folk that has been watered down so much and it sounds so bland and un thoughtful

Conditions change, people change, culture changes. There were always artists out for the money; integrity has not fundamentally changed no matter what nostalgia you hold. Traditional musics will forever be archived through recordings, both physical and digital, and furthermore many still practice them. Just because someone creates a style you don't care for does not mean that music is going down the drain or something. I don't think it's un thoughtful, but it's certainly an entirely different beast from trad and should be treated as such. If you could separate your preconceptions from the music I think you'd find that many of these fusions hold up quite well musically. Not necessarily what I posted, but dismissing an entire style as a whole is outright ridiculous in my opinion.
