im the anon who originally posted and im used to fairly simple (if not repetitive) structure. production doesn't really have anything to do with it. i mean, the cleaner production the more precise it all sounds, where as if it were lo-fi, there of course would be nothing at all.
for reference, the first technical anything I heard was later death albums. fairly low caliber compared to the responses I got. about a year ago I bought earthborn evolution by Beyond creation. I liked probably 2 or 3 songs on that whole album. there wasn't anything I could really grasp to it. I guess what I meant to say is if there is a middle ground in all that between Later Death and the Obscura's and Necrophagists.
