ITT: Albums with one track that is vastly superior to all others
>Bloodhail
>>64059829
Bloodhail isn't the best track is just the most accessible
>earthmover
>>64059988
it's also the best track tho
>Eternal Worm
>Hunter
>HFS 40k
>Deep Deep
>The Future
>I Don't Love
>Earthmover
All better tracks
>>64059829
DC is consistent as hell, that's one of the things that makes it so great. Loses a bit of steam at the end of disc 1 but I think Bloodhail, Hunter, 40k, Deep Deep, and Earthmover would all have people defending them as the best on the album
>>64060246
Eternal Worm is damn nice and Earthmover gets me every time but just trust me here, Bloodhail is by far the best. I can't do anything about that, can't you see it's all flown out of my hands
>>64060301
I actually really like There Is No Food as a closer to Disc 1. When the bassline comes in it sounds like the fucking world is ending.
>>64060246
>The Future
Underrated as hell track. Especially following HFS.
>tfw you will never see them play live
>tfw they will never do a seamless transition of Defenestration Song > The Future > Black Metal Records
>>64060390
your measurements are incorrect, friend. run those numbers again
>>64060462
I know you think I ran the numbers once but I didn't, no one ever does, and I would, no one ever will
Grief
>>64059829
What? People can almost never agree on what the best track on Deathconciousness is. That's what makes it amazing is that all the songs are great. Besides it's I Don't Love.
>>64059829
>I feel the top of the roof come off...
Fantastic song, but not even the best one of the album.
>>64060567
I remember my girlfriend and I broke up a few summers ago, and when I was driving home, I Don't Love came on my car stereo. I broke down crying while singing the lyrics.
It became my favorite track on the album after that.
>>64059829
I disagree with you because I'm a contrarian that feeds off justification through my own self-absorption.
Almost any track from Deathconsciousness could be considered the best
>A Quick One for spookiness
>Bloodhail for pure gloom
>Hunter for dynamics
>Black Metal Records/HFS/Deep, Deep for fun
>I Don't Love for soul-crushing depression
>Earthmover for the climax
I'd say my favorite overall songs are Bloodhail and Hunter, but my favorite individual moments are the breakdown in HFS and the synth riff in Deep, Deep.
As long as we're talking about HaNL I posit that any one of the individual cuts off of this EP, except maybe The Parahelic Circle, can easily stand up to Deathconsciousness (not necessarily better but absolutely equal in quality).
The guitar entrance in Wizards Of The Black Hundreds and the breakdown at the end of Icon And The Axe are fucking unbelievable.
>>64060768
I agree, it's a shame it's never discussed. Woe Unto Us is one of their best songs, it should have replaced The Future on DC in my opinion. Wizards is cool too, I imagine them playing it live would have been an amazing opener.
>>64060860
Nah, I love Woe Unto Us to death but I definitely think The Future serves its purpose as a sort of intermission between the crushing sadness of HFS 40k and the insanity of the last three tracks and I don't think there's anything that could really replace it in their catalog (except maybe Numbers but even that's more melancholy than foreboding which I think is what they're going for). I don't really think any song on Deathconsciousness could be replaced, to be honest. Better than the sum of its parts and all.
Honestly as much as I would do some really, really unspeakable things to see them live I definitely get why they haven't done it again after seeing Live At The Stone. It's cool if you're a fan but in order to be a really great live act in general they would have to make some big changes from that format, it looked kinda awkward.
If I ever get to see them live though holy fuck I would love to see Stars And Air as a closer. I love that song.
Solitude Standing has "Tom's Diner".
But only because it's a musical achievement of pure voice without the interruption of instruments.
I'm not saying the rest of the album is bad... Just vastly inferior to Blood and Thunder
hallogallo
>Disorder
Just admit it. It's true.
>>64061340
This.
>>64059829
Really? I've always thought that "A Quick One..." was the stand out track on that album.
>>64060567
faucet is up there too (imo better). the good tracks on this album are really good.
>>64062397
While Faucet is my second track for sure, it's not as good as Grief. The grim and depressing production on there is incredible and like nothing I've ever heard. Also Earl has some of the best lines in his career on there as well. But ya, some of the tracks on here are just incredible. My favorite hip hop project from 2015.
>>64062115
She's Lost Control is better imo.
>>64060768
This is a very underrated EP. Weird that /mu/ is such a big fan of Dan Barrett's work but this rarely gets disscussed.
>>64062475
>Weird that /mu/ is such a big fan of Dan Barrett's work but this rarely gets disscussed
I think it's just /mu/core syndrome. Whenever people talk about The Antlers' other albums the general consensus is that they're pretty fucking great and a few of them are even better than Hospice but that's the one everyone knows so it gets talked about much more. Same with Dan's projects besides Deathcon and Giles Corey.
Black Wing was fucking great. Easily favorite of 2015.
>>64062115
Day Of The Lords, She's Lost Control, Shadowplay, and New Dawn Fades are all better. That's nearly half the album.
Sky Ghosts
You all know the one.
>>64062616
yeah sonic titan is pretty rad
>>64062664
Live tracks obviously don't count
>>64061307
I can get behind this.
Pattern Recognition
>>64062647
the part about it not being the side effects of the cocaine?
Do I even need to say it?
>>64059829
but earthmover is better.
>>64061307
this is extremely wrong. Naked Burn, Aqua Dementia and Hearts Alive are all significantly better than B&T
air conditioned nightmare
>>64061340
Weissensee and Negativland are both pretty great though
>>64062900

>>64061048
The show looked horrible but the people there said that they were so into it that it was an amazing experience even if the sound was bad.
I do hope that Dan does a tour as Giles Corey though, but I doubt that will happen with his kids now. Wish more than anything I could have seen the I Do not Love/Planning For Burial/Giles Corey show at the secret Enemies List warehouse.
