I'm really bored with music at the moment so to spice things up, I decided to start a marathon of listening to nothing but glam metal. I always found glam metal to be a fascinating genre and it's a genre not most people want to hear or have anything to do with so it'll be special undertaking. Just the sheer ridiculousness of how something so unlikely once dominated the mainstream charts is also pretty intriguing.
So what's the best way to go through an entire genre? I'm sure some people on here have done that. I was thinking of using RYM and going through each album chronologically. To not waste time with bootlegs I'll only listen to releases with over 100 ratings. Is that a good idea?

Actually if that's what you want to do then that way of doing it is really good
this is the most ridiculous glam metal album i've ever had the pleasure of listening to

It has over 100 ratings so I'll listen to it. I doubt it'll be as ridiculous as any pre-Anselmo Pantera glam album.
Glam metalfag here. Try to dive a bit deeper than the classic motley / poison / ratt bands

Thanks for the recommendations. None of these bands have any albums with ratings over 100 so I guess I'll have to approach how to listen to the genre another way.

And if you want to understand Glam Metal even better, check the bands that started the whole thing (which were basically punk, with the glam image)

You're welcome mate, I just recommended you some of the "harder" to discover bands.

What are your favorite glam albums? Also why do you like the genre so much.
>>64049439
My personal favorites are
Lion - Trouble in Angel City
W.A.S.P. - Still not black enough
Holy Soldier - s/t
Crashdiet - Generation Wild
Dokken - Under lock and key
Motley Crue - Too Fast For Love
I love that the most bands have the "fuck you" attitude, love the image, and that it's pretty cheerful
>>64049541
cheerful music I mean. When coming home after a long day, I listen to this and feel much better

Yngwie Malmsteen gets overlooked quite a bit when it comes to his Glam stuff. Trilogy (if it even counts as Glam) through to Eclipse are all pretty gud.

Fuck yeah thanks anon
Almost all of Motley Crue is excellent
Also Judas Priest's Turbo

I hate the "rockstar" era of Yngwie, rising force will always be his best album
Just go for the goat Van Halen
