I listened to "A Piece Of Strange" for the first time today. Currently listening to it for a second time. I don't know why I slept on this album for so long. It's fucking impeccable.

Nice friend.
>>
This guy used to go under the moniker of "100s". He changed his name to Kossisko because apparently he didn't want to be forever known under his pimp routine. He's doing pretty different stuff these days but I love it and I want to get his name out there. It's not exactly what I'd call straight up hip hop. Maybe more R&B influenced than anything.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NICvvbY_VF0
>>
I gave this album a proper thorough listen through the other day. It was my first time listening to it all the way through. While some of it was enjoyable and good to listen to, I just can't help but feel like the production feels very dated and unpolished.

I might go back and give it another listen but very few of the tracks felt like they stood up today. Only songs like "Express Yourself", "Fuck Tha Police" "Dope Man" and maybe a couple of others still sound good to me. I know it's all subjective, but it just felt so empty..? I don't know how to describe it. I guess I'm used to more modern hip hop being more thoroughly polished? It definitely feels less layered compared to the likes of more modern albums.

Started listening to Eminem again recently and decided to actually give Obie Trice a listen. This guy is underrated as fuck imo. Cheers is a great album and it definitely has that distinctive early 2000s Em production feel on it.
>>
>>64023993
I remember checking this album out when I was really into Em. Haven't listened to any Em album in a few years but I still listen to this occasionally. Bad Bitch is such a great song.
>>
>>64024012
It's not even just the album man. His voice is fantastic for hip hop. Apparently shady records aren't too good at promoting their artists though. I'll definitely be listening to this more and more this year. I'm glad I took a chance to listen to it.
>>
>>64023721
Yah, that shit is primitive. Dre was much more capable on The Chronic. That stark feel kind of works tho.
>>
>>64024089
Yeah man. I'm a huge fan of 2001 and I think it sounds impeccable and definitely holds up to more modern works.
>>
What are some really instrumentally dense hip hop albums? I'm talking layers, multiple different beats per song, all different kinds of instruments/electronic production etc.

All good man. I'm just about to give it a listen. Trying to get around to listening to older classic albums. About to finish up the first disc of "Life After Death".
>>
>>64024238
I've been catching up with some classic over the past few months. Still haven't heard a Tupac album, been meaning to get around to him but everytime I want to listen to an album I always forget about him. Just heard Scarface- The Diary the other day, definitely check it out if you haven't heard it.
>>
>>64024260
I know what you mean about Tupac. Every time I start to listen to him I kind of lose interest. I feel like it's blasphemy but I feel like he's kind of overrated. Maybe if I listen to him more I'll change my opinion. Definitely digging Biggie though. This album is great.
>>
>>64024275
For me it's not so much I lose interest, I just forget about him when looking for an album to listen to. The few songs I have heard by him I've loved. I've always loved Biggie though, Life After Death is top 10 for me.
>>
>>64023721
I love Straight Outta Compton, Fuck Tha Police and Express Yourself.
At the time though, this album was an a-bomb.
>>
>>64024299
Yeah man this album is amazing so far. I'm following the lyrics on genius and he definitely paints a picture of his life throughout the songs. It's kind of eye opening.
>>64024309
Yeah, I mean I definitely love some of the songs, but a lot of it for me, and I mean a lot, definitely feels unpolished and dated. I don't often feel that way about music.

Says you. He's a great lyricist with malleable flow he'll shape to whatever project he's creating. He can make blues-esque records, socially conscious hip-hop, or straight up gangsta rap albums.

He has a solid body of work. He even had his track "dear mama" permanently stored in the library of congress, I bet none of the rappers in your supposed list with have a track so culturally significant that the US government will store a permanent copy of it for future generations.

Implying he's not a technical rapper doesn't make him one. I've only heard All Eyes On Me in it's entirety, nothing else I've heard of his has swayed me to believe he's as great as he's made out be. None of his music hits home be it socially conscious or straight up gangsta. He is arguably, and this is opinionated, one of the worst of his era. When you have shit like NWA, Geto Boys, Pete Rock, De La Soul, ATCQ, Bone Thugs, Wu Tang and it's affiliates he just doesn't measure up at all. Fuck it I'd even put LL Cool J on a higher pedestal than 2pac

See how bad that looks though? I can understand disliking an artist, and your entitled to your own opinion, but don't you think your doing yourself a disservice when you've only heard a single album of which your going to base someones entire career or legacy on?

All the people you mentioned have "mediocre" albums yet you hold them to high esteem, but you're going to rag on Tupac for All Eyes On Me?

It's definitely unique. I just can't take the dude seriously, he sounds like a parody.

This is pretty much my problem with Young Thug, he's lyrics and his voice make him sound like a joke. I can't take him seriously, the fact that everything he does sounds pretty much the same doesn't help either.

ignore that one retard, tupac is the hip hop equivalent of pink floyd. he's not without his merits, but he's dadrap (i know, the irony) and his fans overrate him to hell and back.

what happened to him? i feel like i haven't heard anything from him in like a year, which is strange considering he was putting out music really consistently in 2014.
>>
>>64038790
what a god awful cover
>>
>>64041589
Top 5 of the year so far, This Life was the best song on there imo.

i don't think in the long run doom was as good of a producer as madlib but he's definitely more on the same tier than most people recognize.

i just wish he had kept up the manic energy from that period when he was dropping like 8+ releases a year, now he's known as basically the laziest rapper on the scene and doesn't even play his own shows etc
>>
>>64041668
very clever but obviously i meant a piece of strange fuckface

acid rap is good but has nothing on this, holy fuck. prom night is one of the best hip hop songs i've heard.

i hope his third release's album cover keeps in the trend of him looking at things infront of him.

PROTIP: You can't

The new Spark Master Tape is releasing tomorrow!

>>64040400
Eligh has always been a hit or miss for me. I liked some songs off his last album but meh. He was great in Living Legends though.

>>64035018
Schemaposse >>> Suicideboys
Ugly Mane's in a category of his own though.

For anyone like me that appreciates the smooth sound of jazz, mixed in with some simple kicks/snares, maybe some vintage vocals every now and again; I'll share some gems I enjoy.
-The Cancel (https://thecancelmusic.bandcamp.com/music)
A Ukrainian producer who makes some of the smoothest sounds I've heard. Notable tracks in (no particular order and in) my opinion are:
Les Apaches (feat Moth Equals), Rush (feat Moth Equals), Run, Never Wrong, Just Move, Looking For Somebody, Love Is, Apollo, Ny In Night, beat21, beat26.

-tusken (https://tuskendot.bandcamp.com/)
Just found this guy on bandcamp today, makes a similar jazz-hop instrumental sound as The Cancel - still exploring though

-Homebrew (https://homebrew.bandcamp.com/)
A group out of NZ, not a producer however a large bunch of their tracks carry this jazz-hop sound I crave and they combine it with their great flow and great bars - makes for quite a lovely sound to the ears. Some notable tracks are: State of Mind, The Truth is Ugly, 55 Stories, Listen to Us, Dark Intro, Monday - Sunday.

If anyone cares to listen to any of these and can point me in the direction of some more producers/rappers/anything that has a similar sound, I'm all ears. I crave this jazz-hop sound, connects with me on another level and gets those feels flowing.

What's up with all these fucking gun bars lately, why's everyone falling for the meme?

The production is great on the tracks but the lyrical talent is seriously lacking, fucking trap scene shit infecting everything.
