I got a question

Where do I start/what should I do to learn how to play the guitar, simply try to cover easy songs?
I used to play really easy shit and riffs 6 years ago and also played GH on expert(kek I know) but it helped me with faster fingers


I want to learn but for real this time, I can play the smells like teen spirit solo and sleepwalking acoustic but Polly by nirvana I fuck up and that's basically it

my gear is a yamaha pacific all black, a metalcore pedal(no idea how to use it for a decent tone) and a rolan mini amp

Practice with a metronome.

If you're just doing easy songs, learn the bass notes of the chords first, master that, then add more notes.

I've been getting into finger picked acoustic stuff, what are some essential songs to learn? I'm working on some Sun Kil Moon and Sufjan stuff right now.

Is it a bad habit to use only my thumb, index, and ring fingers? I know you're supposed to use every finger for a different string (the P I M A thing) but that just ends up sounding sloppy and it's very hard to control the pinky.

Pinky is only really necessary if you're playing complicated classical stuff. I consider myself adept at fingerpicking and I barely ever use it. Work on the ring finger though, it can come in handy.

As for songs to learn, Holocene will soak any girl in a 50-foot radius, especially if you can song it the way he does.
If you want to challenge yourself try to learn Avril 14th (there's a good tab on UG), some awkward and fast switches that will be good practice if you can get them down.

Yeah, the Cali 76. There are a few smaller, simpler and cheaper versions.

I use the Empress one and don't have any complaints, it's highly regarded as well.

Also loved the Refinery with exception of the lack of visual meter, but that's a minor nitpick.

There really isn't a point. The reason it exists is because when the bass was first made they couldn't think of a neat way to mount the pickup without a pickguard. So they used that big metal bracket, and they thought it was ugly, or perhaps confusing. Hence the pickup covers. They can be considered useful if you want to pick over the neck, but not really.

Stay far away from the "insane" channel, it sounds like bees and ass. You'll probably be able to get closest to a usable tone on the "metal" channel. Turn the gain way down, pull back the treble and add more mid

Post instruments you hate playing/jamming with and why.

For me it's piano, but my opinion of it would be very skewed only because the only time I play with a piano is when I jam with my friend, and it's hard to get him to keep a solid progression that isn't pure wankery or that doesn't go off on tangents to play to, he plays baritone sax as well which is fun to play to even though he does kind of the same thing but there's just something that makes it hard to play to about him on piano. That being said he's pretty good at improvising over my stuff. I'm probably just shit though.

I came here to ask a question that relates to what you're discussing.

I may have fallen into a trap –when playing solos, I am very rigid to the pentatonic/blues scales, and can only perform to a below-decent level soloing in the major scale.

Learn more scales. Put some backing track on and just go through playing with new scales. Combine them, mix and match, move up and down the fretboard.

What I mostly do now that I've been playing 10 years is to just play what I can hear in my head. Learn the fretboard to the point where you can hear the note as you look at it on the fretboard. Practice audiation, that's the most important thing in my opinion. Hear that inner voice and then keep learning until you can play what you hear. It just takes time.

I think it's one of the best basses I ever played on. It got such a beautiful deep tone that will fit to anything. And it's very versatile aswell with the passive/active options. A while back I bought a Schecter Stiletto Extreme bass. However it's completely incompatible with my recording style now. Is there any way I can brighten it up? Oh Pam this was my first bass. I would refrain from using the bridge pick up entirely because its noisy af but you can use the blend knob for both pu or using the neck is good by itself. On my latest recording I shelved everything above 1.5-2KHz which didn't completely get rid of the sliding but managed to mask it a little bit while maintaining a bit of the attack. But the thing is I've never changed the strings on the thing, so I'm betting there isn't much attack left.

Yes it did. I had a coke fiend of a friend who went to a luthier school for a whole year and ended up saving the bass. It played so smooth and fast like literal butter. Then I moved away leaving it in a case and my dad found it and decided to pawn it.

figure out what key you're in. Then figure out what intervals the progression of your verse is in. Build your chorus off of chords in different intervals and either starting or resolving on the root. That's a pretty cheap way to start things off. Figure out what sounds best. Consider that generally if you have vocals your chorus should be more melodic than the verse.

Of course I know what power and pre amp means. I happen to think that running reverb into a dirty amp sounds like shit and I use the power amp to get my lead toans and using the FX loop won't put the reverb behind the power amp.

Try using less reverb or less dirt. Dial your lows down and mids and treble up. It's going to get washed out sounding if you use a lot of verb

Play over some major backing tracks, maybe some dorian and aeolian, get a feel for what notes work where. Some backing tracks even alert you when a chordal change is happening.

This april fools layout is sorta growing on me, though the names are fucking offputting
also I think a burglar came around and scouted the house earlier, heard some knocks on the front and back doors without any real delay and when I went to see if anyone was around the house, I saw a silhoutte through a fogged window and when I went to get a better view there was no-one at all anywhere on the property.
