The main difference is the scale length. Jaguars have a much shorter scale than Jazzmasters so the strings are under less tension. Some people like this, others complain that the slacker strings won't be as responsive to picking dynamics. The usual fix is to move to heavier strings on a Jaguar but when you get into very thiick unvound G strings they can start to sound "dumpy" and lifeless and no one wants to use a wound G on an electric as those things do NOT bend.

For my money, I'd get the Jazzmaster every time. Full scale length wins for me.

Whichever you choose, remember to order a replacement for the crappy bridge. Trust me on this. You're gonna need it.
>>
>>63615444
>no one wants to use a wound G on an electric as those things do NOT bend.
They're perfect for dropped tunings, like B standard on a 6 strings,
And they do bend, every string does, I'm not a guitar genie but if you can't bend any kind of guitar string, you need to practice more.
>>
>>63615640
Should have said a wound G won't bend in the same way as an unwound one. And I never use dropped tunings now so I bow to your greater knowledge in this matter.

But for the average Joe using EADGBE I think a wound G in standard tuning is a bad idea.
>>

>>
>>63614226
I only listened to a few of his songs but he seems very talented as a composer and musician
>>
>>63615725
I've never found any kind of difference between a wound and an unwound string of the same gauge.
However they do sound and feel different, so it might be a bad idea for shorter scales.
As for using them with lower tuning, it's just that it reminds me of 7 strings, on which you end up with 4 wounds and 3 unwounds

Expensive option is the Mastery bridge, a Staytrem or just a Fender Mustang bridge would be plenty good enough.

You may not even need a new bridge, some new Jazzmaster models have a bridge similar to a Gibson Tunomatic. Those don't need replacing, the old Fender types do as the strings pop out of the saddles all the time.

If it looks like this then junk it and get a Mastery or Staytrem. The threaded screws don't hold the strings in placewhen you pick.

I don't even know how this guy gets brought up all the time. These guys are like if social media was a guitar company. Frankly the only reason I even know about them is from /gg/ and the tonewood debacle. I'm not at all interested in watching their videos, so it would be pretty unfair for me to pass judgement on. I usually ignore the posts about chapman, but I gotta admit, I've begun to get a bit annoyed about it. I know /mu/ is a board for normies, but chapman goes far beyond that.

Turns out I'm retarded and forgot a word, they don't feel any different FOR BENDS. However they're different to the touch and they sound different, that's why I use them for B standard, that way you are closer to what a G string, which now is a D string, sounds like.

>>63616870
Captain doesn't have a band and doesn't have his name on any guitar of a specific brand, If you're going to do that, do it the way Les Paul did and make yourself worthy of that.

Thinking about putting a bigsby b3 or b7 on my rickenbacker 330
Is it worth it?

Rickenbacker 330 ft. My toes

Its not the greatest 8x10 in the world (would much rather have an Ampeg or a Markbass (much lighter)), but it serves its purpose and sounds pretty good.

I just need a tailpiece with a whammy bar and the ricky vibratos cost way more than a bigsby

Something like this

Plus I'm a britpleb so it's much harder to get rick parts
>>
>>63618856
You'll have to drill holes and run the possibility of having to make further and more drastic, permanent adaptations.

The thought of doing that on a Rick makes me cringe.
>>
>>63618856
what's your specific objection to a Floyd Rose?
>>
>>63618670
thanks

y-you too
>>
>>63618881
Yeah that's what I'm worrying about

And the thing is, apparently the R tailpiece is known to break. What the fuck do I do if that happens?

I guess i could just take it to a shop to get someone to fit it 'professionally'
>>
>>63618894
Fuck I forgot about those

>>63618633
>not looking at your picture before you post it to make sure your fucking toes aren't in the frame

>>

>What the fuck do I do if that happens?
You buy a new one. Worry about your tailpiece breaking when and if it breaks, not now...

>I guess i could just take it to a shop to get someone to fit it 'professionally'
Then you'll pay for the Bigsby, pay for the installation and permanent modifications just to make sure that your guitar is now worth less than before?

The money you'll lose in the Bigsby + installation + devaluation is probably enough to buy a new cheaper guitar with a Bigsby already in it.
>>
>>63618894
Wait I doubt they would fit on a ric though
>>
>>63618995
He's fucking with you. If you don't see why suggesting a Floyd Rose for a Rickenbacker is a joke in itself please stop right now any consideration you're having about permanently fucking up your expensive guitar. You clearly don't know any better.

I know this is bait but it's a nice excuse to talk about myself.

I was "naturally talented" (I guess, that's what people said) when I started playing and I kept saying I'm not good enough, but then people kept saying "no you're good" and the result was that I got lazy early on and my technique ended up horrible and my playing was really sloppy so I've been spending months and months basically rebuilding my style of play from the ground up to actually git gud. It's been fun and I feel the same way I did when I was a kid spending hours in my room playing nonstop until my fingers bled. I don't really have a point here, but I guess it would be this: I fucking love playing guitar.

Twist until it creaks then twist once more for luck.
>>
>>63619663
That, I suppose, would be the actual point of my post. Thanks. I'd word it differently than you did though, because saying "bad self-esteem helps" isn't exactly right. Never believe that you're good enough that you don't need to improve or that you can get lazy with practice because there is always something about your playing that you can do better. But always believe that you can actually get better. One of my friends constantly says that he's horrible, and no matter how much I say he's fine (he's serviceable, needs practice but can play songs) he refuses to believe he's any good and doesn't think he can do the things I can do.
>>
>>63619775
you need to tighten it hard enough to the string tension wont pull back against it.
>>
>>63619785
I want to rub my genitals all over that guitar

>>
>>63619825
That cover very practical actually, I rest my palm there.
>>
>>63619775
Twist it until the neck is at a 90° angle
Then out a spoon in a microwave and use that hit spoon to soften up the side of the neck where it meets the body
Now you have room to hand adjust the neck

Do so until it's just right and then store the guitar in a fridge or a freezer to set and harden the neck.

You're welcome senpai

You grow out of treating guitars like babies pretty quickly when you realise there's something you need the instrument to do that it can't, so you can either mod it, or stick with an expensive piece of wood that won't do what you want, I couldn't play the music I make if I hadn't given my jazz bass an active EQ, I wouldn't be able to make the sounds necessary for looping, If I hadn't modded the bass I spent nearly a year saving for in a shit job I'd be fucked. No point having a nice guitar that you can't play.

When you're 13 years old and you've got no friends and nothing but time on your hands you'll find a way to be dumb enough. I said my picking technique was bad, right? The fingers on my picking hand used to hit the strings a lot so after a few hours they'd start bleeding. I figured it was normal at the time.
