First time I heard anything Cornell related was Long Gone from this album (I think?). It was pretty good. I was a kid though so my taste was shit, but still.
>>
>>63542397

context?
>>
that album wasn't even bad.

Furthermore Whitechocolatespaceegg was amazing and clearly predicted the direction of s/t

Liz phair was always a pop singer, i don't understand how people didn't recognize it. She didn't sell out, she got a budget.
>>
>>63542903
you're kidding, right? that shit is straight up Pepsi commercial pop coming from someone who wrote "Flower"

female rocker with talent writes one genuinely great, somewhat groundbreaking album then steadily digresses further and further towards wanting radio hits. finally gets the budget to do so an releases a CD with one of the most vapid staples of "lite rock" radio (Why Can't I?)
>>
>>63543023
new this was coming

>>63542540
going to see him solo in the summer. friend paid for my ticket so why not. but yeah, checking out some of that album... wow.
>>
>>63542397
But The 9.6 from Pitchfork came in 2008, while the 0 came in 2003. Isn't this an example of the opposite of selling out?
>>
>>63543059
>new this was coming
you should of, it's the prime example of an artist not only selling out his band, but selling out an entire fucking genre.
>>
Bloc Party
Kings of Leon
The Black Keys
>>
>>63543112

In 2008 they were reviewing the reissue of an album originally released in 1993.
>>
>>63543149
and then he made In Utero and he was forgiven. also it was a shitty fucking genre anyway.
>>
>>63543260
Then why doesn't it say 1993? Also she clearly released herself in 2008, whereas she got a major label to release the other album. Woman went fucking indie and you're calling her a sellout?

Even Steve Albini couldn't save In Utero. It's more of the same shit with less sheen (except for the two tracks the band had re-produced for the radio, top kek).
>>
>>63543288
stop.
>>
>>63543321
>more of the same shit with less sheen
do you even have ears?
>>
>>63543348
listen, fucko, if you can't take the heat, step away from the beat.
>>
>>63543371
I imagine that's what Steve Albini asked Kurt CoCAIN after he heard him perform in the studio. He probably cried in a dark room by himself over the garbage he'd be responsible for unleashing on the world.
>>
>>63543023
how can a bad band sell out?
>>
>>63543501
by being bad in a way someone pays them to as opposed to the bad they are naturally
>>
>>63543288
>Then why doesn't it say 1993?

Because it was a 15th anniversary edition and they reviewed it in 2008.

> Also she clearly released herself in 2008, >Awhereas she got a major label to release the >other album.

The original Exile in Guyville was released by Matador records, an indie label. The anniversary edition was actually reissued by ATO records, a label founded by Dave Matthews and distributed at the time by Sony.

> Woman went fucking indie and you're calling her a sellout?

We called her a sellout when she put out a terrible self-titled record, not because someone re-released a 15 yo album of her.
>>
>>63543501
bad bands sellout all the time dude.
>>
>>63542903
>because you're a pop artist, your music is allowed to become vapid and derivative
>>

Quite a tragedy, actually.

I don't think we're talking about the same thing, I basically agree with you
