Fair enough. A Love Supreme is one of my favourite jazz outputs and ITCOTCK is classic. I plenty of 70's prog in my collection too.

it's the picture in the OP and itcotck is quintessential prog. but i disagree, prog has a ton of songwriting. i get the objection with some jazz, but i'm saying that improvisation is kind of the root of jazz, and the solos are often tasteful, musical, and emotionally impactful. something that shitty metal solos have none of

man there's no way to say this but most people agree that jazz and prog are more likely to reach an emotional depth than math rock. and this is from a fan of math rock. it's subjective and hard to describe but it's how me and a lot of people feel. it's not to say that it can't happen, just that i can name a ton more prog and jazz works that i've been emotionally affected by than math rock stuff. math rock is more showy
