I think people have rightly slammed this article, as his tone is completely vitriolic and he comes across like a fucking idiot, basically. You have to admit, however, that there is a distinct generational disparity in regards to clubbing - that he is not wrong about. But we shouldn't be comparing them to one another, as in 'one is better than the other', because each generation has been influenced by massively different cultural elements which we can't discount.
What did really piss me off about this article is the 'safe spaces' rant, though. To be honest, I've never understood the whole "safe space" thing, how does it work? What defines it? I wouldn't say I'm against it, but I just don't understand what it helps.
I always thought that it was just "a space where people can feel safe", but isn't that patronising? Basically saying to people "we run a safe space policy, ie: don't be a bellend". It's like saying that a club runs a "don't stab people policy".
What does this actually physically do, beyond raise awareness to poeople who I'm sure already know all about this kind of stuff? Clubbing has always been about including everyone.
If people are gonna be creeps and feel up girls, are they really going to care about some policy the club has enough to stop?
