What's a good cheap one?

I made my second album recording everything through a guitar amp into my microphone output on the my PC, My recordings actually suffered when I got a proper audio interface, and it took a long time to bounce back and adjust to recording in high fidelity.

Hipster cred, and nobody's making more of them. Trying to find them locally would be your best bet, I got mine from a small town buy and sell. Reel to Reels are even cheaper if you can find them.

Alternately, I made my little sister a cheap recording setup using 2 tape decks with a karaoke machine in between them. What you'd do is record from the Kareoke machine into one tape deck, then play that tape in the second while recording with another tape and overdubbing with the Karaoke mike. It's lo fi, but you can find all sorts of stuff like this at thrift store and garage sales for next to nothing, not as good as a tascam, but it's good fun, and perfectly good for low fidelity recordings.

Also, graphic EQs and other 70s stereo acessories can be found for next to nothing, and are invaluable in a recording setup. I used to feed computer recordings through old stereo equipment, back into the computer to give the song a unique sound and add a little grime and compression.

Only advice I would give, if you're doing spoken word stuff, don't linger too long when you enunciate a word, good spoken word inspiration would be Spiderland, and some of Sun Kil Moon's recent stuff like Benji and Universal themes. Your accent is really heavy and noticeable, just try and tone it down a bit.

How do I tape the drums without the drums. I mean me and friend of mine use to jam with me on the guitar and him on a drum program that emulates a real drum set and it seems work fine but we dont know a way to tape the drum track in a midi to use it on a full track
