I still think Homework and Discovery to be pretty great and innovative albums, it's a shame they did not find the same inspiration in their latter works
>>

This
>>
>>63390166
deadmau who?
>>
Alive 2007 is pretty cool tbqh
>>
>>63390234
i don't really see how homework was all that innovative, pretty average house/acid house. they even have a song on that album listing a bunch of people who did the same thing before them.

they went a bit more out of the box with discovery.
>>
Even though I don't really like the style of RAM it's production is a 10/10 imo, so overall a solid album

Godly

Damn good

Eh..

Keep disco in the 70s thank you very much
>>
Outside of the production, RAM was kind of terrible. I enjoyed the marketing though.
>>
>>63390729
The production was meh, everything was so chrystal clear and perfect that it sounded like every instrument was played by robots. Ha.. Or is that what they were going for?

what the fuck is happening in this thread
>>
>>63390777
Ya I think it was meant to capture the nostalgia for the sound of the era. The technological limitations you would hear on all records of the time didn't play into that and were withheld
>>
alive 1997=godly
homework =great
discovery = kiddie pop
human all = brainwasher and prime time, rest is meh
ram = funk album covers ?
>>
I don't think any other group has redeemed a mediocre seemingly-misstep album as excellently as they did to Human After All with Alive 2007
>>
>>63390895
alive is just the greatest hits in the mix album anon ?
>>
>>63390777
they did almost all of the instrumentation with real instruments tho
>>
>>63390777
You're objectively right, but that's what I enjoyed about it.

hit or miss

mostly miss

They steal music way too often

HIGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH
hhuh
>>
>>63390995
Yes, but the production is so damn clear and perfect that it might as well be played by a vst. There's no edge or roughness to any of the instruments.
>>63390785
The difference between ram and nu disco: nu-disco takes a great loop of a disco track and makes something new out of it, RAM is straight up trying to replicate 70s disco records.
>>
Discovery is a masterpiece. Then they started doing collaborations with shitty hip hop singers and it all went downhill. Terrible.
>>
Literally who?
>>
I downloaded a bunch of songs from them. I've made a playlist and I'm slowly removing one after another from my disk.

What the fuck? I knew they had some nice pieces, but some songs are just the same fucking shit for 5 minutes. What the hell is wrong with them? If you only have 3 sounds, make a 90 sec song, don't loop that shit for over 300.

Fuck them.
>>
>>63390777
Since when is clear production a bad thing?
>>
>>63391401
Sounds like you're not a fan of french house

You know nothing about music.
>>
They're good at sampling
>>
They are too popular so is not cool to like them on /mu/
>>
Do they have mini air conditioners inside their helmets? I hope so, imagine having those things inside 5 hours or more when they go out
>>
>>63391474
You´re right this shows how snobby and stupid this /mu kids sound, you can still have feeling with a pristine quality production, in fact it should show more since there´s more subtlety and pureness in the sound. And a VST can´t play like Niles Rodgers, I mean you´re just being pretentious dickheads associating that it´s mainstream with being bad. 70´s disco covers? Fuck you! Did you listen to Giorgio, Touch, Beyond, Motherboard, Fragments of time (chopped chorus and solo, it´s the most Discovery song in the album), Doin´ it right or Contact?

>>
>>63390931
No, give alive a listen. basically a remix album but extremely good. Seriously, it's great. by far my favorite of their albums, by far
>>
>>63390777
You're right. I actually thought it sounded very sterile.
>>
>>63391401
listen to discovery, sounds like you got a bunch of songs from homework
>>
>>63393262
no
>>
Is Discovery a good starting point for someone who has listened to a few songs by them but never really dug really deep into their discography
>>
>>63394964
Yes discovery is a perfect starting point.
From there you can do homework, human after all and immediately alive 2007.
RAM and tron soundtrack are both good but kindof stand on their own
>>
>>63395076
Thank you!
>>
>>63390096
Their stuff on their own labels is better
>>
at first i wasnt too impressed but as it came up in my shuffle playlist more often i started to like the songs more and more

it's pretty good
>>
>>63390096
The only reason yeezus was good
>>
Discovery was awesome with sampling but a lot of the songs were very lazy, even for house music (High Life, Crescendolls) and there are only a few tracks that take any risks (Harder Better Faster Stronger, Short Circuit)

Random Access Memories was a huge breath of fresh air for production in the max-compression age of pop music and possibly their best album, Touch is without a doubt their greatest song

The other two have their moments but are mostly kind of boring
>>
Human After All is a good album

Not a fan of them.
>>
>>63396772
>Random Access Memories was a huge breath of fresh air for production in the max-compression age of pop music and possibly their best album, Touch is without a doubt their greatest song
Yeah, people don't give them credit for breaking out of their usual style and composing songs that aren't just 8 bar loops.
>>
>>63397843
House is alternative, its roots were in illegal parties and it only became pop when it turned into a different genre - electro house
>>
>>63398242
I think they got plenty of credit. Album and Record at the Grammys, 8.8 on p4k, went platinum

the mu/rym crowd thought it was just pretty decent though, 3.3 on rym
>>
>>63398242
>>63398465
Yeah it got huge amounts of praise from the mainstream, swept the Grammies and every normie I talked to in 2013/2014 praised it to the highest heavens

/mu/tants and RYMers just wanted to be contrarian as usual
>>
Homework is GOAT
Discovery is GOAT
HAA is objectively pretty shit but I still quite like it
RAM was pretty good
Alive 2007 is untouchable.
>>
>>63390096
I like every one of their albums to some extent except Random Access Memories.
>>
>>63398360
not talking about the scenes but the music itself - i mean it's catchy music meant to be danced to.
>>
They're talentless hacks.
>>
>>63398584
true
>>
>>63390096
Contrarians will hate them. Discovery was great as a kid, but now it feels dull. RAM was great besides the two pop songs it had.
>>
Daft.
>>
>>63391401
Pretty much 90's french house. Don't listen to Crydamoure or Stardust if you hate the repetition.

>>63391142
This, RAM was a homage to the artists they listened to, and it's a damn good one.
>>
>>63398601
or maybe the people who dislike them just like house and acid that's good?
>>
>>63398732
