Fact: The best year in music was whenever Dancing Queen by ABBA came out
>>63309430
anyone says that music sucks these days just doesn't actually try hard enough to look
there is good music from all decades, don't kid yourself /thread
>>63309430
Fuck no. I like both decades individually but the mid 90s is a shit start point and 2005 is an even worse end.
it definately died on its ass after 2005
>implying there is a best decade for music
no music has never 'died', the people who could be making it instead are arguing with other autists on this very board
>>63309430
yeah
>>63309430
It's right now.
Because you have nearly unlimited access to all of the music of the past for nearly no cost and there is more music coming out every day.
Some of which is good.
the best music was from the time I was in highschool up until I was about 26
-literally everyone ever
>>63309430
that doesn't sound like something Colin Quinn would say

1910 (music started) to 2011 (RIP music)
>>63309430
Nah, depends what music you talk about. 90s had the best alternative music, 70s and 80s had the best pop. I don't know it this counts but the 1600s and 1700s had the best baroque, etc.
2011 to now, t b h
>>63309832
>not knowing Colin Quinn's twitter shtick
C'mon, Gang. Thought we were smarter than that?
The last good album ever released was From Under the Cork Tree by Fall Out Boy so yes
>>63309430
The Bends through to around Hail to the Thief/ In Rainbows
>>63310460
The 80s had the best alternative in my opinion. New wave, no wave, noise rock, early alternative rock and grunge, and all kinds of new varieties of metal.
Recorded music has been going downhill since the 1960s started tbf

Everyone in that image sans Brubeck got exponentially better in the 60s and 70s
my votes would be 1966-1976 and then 1987-1997
>>63310460
>>63311102
I agree with the latter, 90's alternative feels mostly butt-y.
Late, late 80's to about 2005 I'd agree.
>>63309792
Nope, it was when my parents were in high school until about when I was born.
I don't agree at all, but Colin Quinn is great.
nothing bores me as much as 2000s and beyond except perhaps 1975 in particular
i'd say the best era of music would be about the mid 1250's to 2016
any other answer is of the utmost plebian opinion
The best time is now
>>63312526
in all actuality, this
1990 to 2000
>>63309430
Best era is March 2016

Hello, /r/lewronggeneration!
>>63312855
>its reddit to like music from any time period
wew lad
I don't think music really died, but I think every generation is filled with people that have a point where they have too many pre-conceived notions about music that they basically just start calling music shit before even listening.
I didn't listen to Johnny Cash for a long time because I thought it was gonna be stupid. I gave it a shot and I ended up enjoying it.
I'm sure people said the same shit for all of time "Oh ten-twenty years ago was so much better?"
If you're going for a specific year it's probably 1969. But if you're going for a decade, it's definitely entirely in the 21st century. so anywhere from 2000-2010 to 2005-2015
>>63312526
this t b h
>>63311254
embarrassing how?
The 2000s are objectively the worst decade for music. I mean, how many critically acclaimed buzz artists from the 2000s do we still talk about? Arcade Fire and maybe Sufjan Stevens? Most people would associate Radiohead more with the 90s.
Nobody talks about Broken Social Scene, TV on the Radio, Wolf Parade, The Rapture, Hot Chip, or Clap Your Hands and Say Yeah anymore. Even the couple of artists that started picking up steam late in the decade (Deerhunter, Fleet Foxes, Dirty Projectors, Bon Iver, Passion Pit etc.) have completely faded into irrelevancy.
Every decade had it's fair share of artists that continued to be remembered fondly, discussed, acclaimed, and listened to in later years, with the exception of the 2000s.

Yes.
literally the absolute low point of not just music but western culture as a whole
film was trash, fashion was T R A S H, popular music was abhorrent be it rock, hip hop, or otherwise, and television began, and hit the lowpoint of, its nosedive.

I would agree 1995~2005 has been one of the best eras of music ever, if not THE best.
The best Godspeed albums
The best Swans album
The best Sigur Ros albums
The best Boredoms album
The best Devin Townsend album
The best Radiohead albums
The best NMH album
The best plunderphonics album of all time (Endtroducing...)
The second best plunderphonics album of all time (since i left you)
The best Slowdive album
The best Stars Of The Lid album
The best Boris album
The best Sufjan Stevens album
The best Bjork albums
The best Boards Of Canada albums
I could go on
Wow this board really is a circlejerk going nowhere fast. How do you guys live with wasting your time like this?
