Really liking Walking Shadows by Joshua Redman. A grey showcase of talent but still shows off a lot of emotion. Setting him with orchestra and trio creates a lot of different moods too.

Only started rating stuff a month ago.
That's a nice prompt though, because I found this thing recently and it seems pretty criminally underrated. It's jazz improv.

I've been re-listening to some exotica/latin/afro-cuban jazz recently. This is such a good album.

Vangelis is great
>>61334521
Oh, I've been meaning to check that out
>>61334521
I've been meme ing it hardcore lately but if you like Latin Jazz check out Mamblue by Ed Calle. Double album from this year that's some of the best I've heard in a long time. Arturo Sandoval on trumpet no less.

How can you possibly justify that? His Sinfonietta is hands down one of the best recordings.
>>61334627
I loved the Sinfonietta but the other pieces left a bit to be desired from me
Maybe I need to listen to it again (or perhaps the one I was listening to the wrong recording and simply rated the wrong one), but those were my thoughts when rating it
gonna go to bed soon

But Taras Bulba is fucking great too! You should give it another listen. Janacek in general is inarguably a great composer across his repertoire.
>>61334727
oh I didn't see the part where you said respond with recent fav jazz or classical
been really addicted to varese and shosta even though the former has a lot of compositions that sound too samey samey
the album I listened to recently with carla bley blew me away even though it had a lot of filler, and it didn't even feel that long despite being two fucking hours
>>61334815
Oh, I adore Janacek, I just felt the performance didn't convey his compositional genius
Again, I may have rated the wrong recording, too.
>>61334856
You should check out Mahler if you like Shostakovich. It's a good idea to try and work backwards to get a wider palette.
>>61334937
yeah man I'll tackle those roads when I get to them b/c I have only listened to a little from impressionism and expressionism and I have not even got to serialism yet
it's all a matter of me listening for the sake of enjoyment tho and not to become patrician or an avid listener or w/e so once I get done with the shit I'm doing now I'll explore more from all that, modern or otherwise
