Really liking Walking Shadows by Joshua Redman. A grey showcase of talent but still shows off a lot of emotion. Setting him with orchestra and trio creates a lot of different moods too.

I've been meme ing it hardcore lately but if you like Latin Jazz check out Mamblue by Ed Calle. Double album from this year that's some of the best I've heard in a long time. Arturo Sandoval on trumpet no less.

I loved the Sinfonietta but the other pieces left a bit to be desired from me
Maybe I need to listen to it again (or perhaps the one I was listening to the wrong recording and simply rated the wrong one), but those were my thoughts when rating it

the album I listened to recently with carla bley blew me away even though it had a lot of filler, and it didn't even feel that long despite being two fucking hours

You should check out Mahler if you like Shostakovich. It's a good idea to try and work backwards to get a wider palette.

yeah man I'll tackle those roads when I get to them b/c I have only listened to a little from impressionism and expressionism and I have not even got to serialism yet
it's all a matter of me listening for the sake of enjoyment tho and not to become patrician or an avid listener or w/e so once I get done with the shit I'm doing now I'll explore more from all that, modern or otherwise
