Allegedly Scott Reeder (the bassist) was on shrooms for this performance.

this was pretty awesome

That video single-handedly got me into Santana.
It's a shame he started collabing with shit-tier artists once he got old.
Cedric is definitely on something, id like to think its psychadelic

Carlos was high AF on mescaline because he thought they were going on much much later but due to the schedule being fucked up they went on early. He thought his guitar was a snake. Killed it though

Doesn't surprise me. Pretty sure the whole band indulged quite a bit back then. When josh started Desert Sessions the whole thing started after the collective tripped for 3 days straight on shrooms.

I mean Cedric and Omar for pretty much all of their ATDI days were on opium and later some heroin. Omar even said in an interview he believed in this life style where you throw everything away and go on the road and go nuts with drugs and live that life. He said he doesn't want to go back to that for obvious reasons (health, psychological stuff)

Not to mention that John Garcia got drunk on stage at almost every show (I assume he was dry when they were opening for Metallica in Australia at massive arena venues)
Not exactly as cool as shrooms or mescaline but plenty of times in the 94-95 era, Malkmus was smoking a fuck ton of grass. He would show up to interviews high and pretty much all of Wowee was written (maybe not recorded) and singles picked while high, this is probably why the album was as strange as it was (although its Pavement, for them it's normal.) Even shows had no set lists, just following others and shouting out songs on stage (plus the usual drinking and stuff)

Didn't know he got drunk at almost every show... Also they had to half their amplifiers because they were so god damned loud on that Metallica tour

>you know the one.
Fuck you, post it.
Avey claims in various interviews, and I believe it, that they don't play live while under the influence (either back in the day or recently). I can't assume they'd perform on acid, the amount of stuff they control live like back in the dansee live period and even later, it would be very hard to perform all those tasks and that kind of music while on acid. Deakin or Panda has said that smoking pot before a show makes them zombie like so I guess they don't smoke before shows.

posting it for that anon

The infamous QOTSA performance where the band members felt it was so bad they had the words Freitag 4.15 tatoo'd on their bodies. I believe Josh was on painkillers and had a broken leg and the other members might have been on other stuff not sure. Regardless its a messy show, not awful but interesting. The description box has moments when shit goes wrong

People who think performing on psychedelic drugs is cool have most likely never taken any psychedelic drugs. Performing stoned isn't as easy as it looks. It can be done tripping on acid but it's a challenge to lock in with the rest of the musicians.

Chris Ott of Pitchfork fame was at the show and said Kurt OD'd before the show (which was common at this point in his career) and said it was AWFUL. I don't exactly agree from the recording but then again I wasn't there. Also some of the most famous pictures of Kurt are from this show.

Kurt was drunk at the Rio show.

Yeah some people claim to be able to, and those are the people who are either a. lying b. have insane amounts of experience or c. somehow are able to control themselves in that intense environment. Plenty of musicians including Issac Brock has said he's written on everything except Acid. Personally it's not hard to perform if its weak stuff but if four people are performing on acid and its effecting every member differently it's going to be interesting.

Shit, Smooth is still one of my biggest guilty pleasures.
