i'll do a ton of smile shares soon if you want! i just have really gotten into them over the past year, and i can def. relate to brian's story.

The Beach Boys - Little Deuce Coupe (1963)
>in the early sixties, brian's shitty dad murry managed the beach boys, and hooked him up with radio dj and car enthusiast roger christian (the logic being that not everyone can appreciate surfing, but cars were a universal teenage experience). therefore, this album and shut down are largely car themed

The Beach Boys - Smiley Smile (1967)
>perhaps the most misunderstood album of all time. rather than receiving the genius of smile, brian wilson ends up creating one of the first lo-fi albums, recorded largely in his own house with subdued arrangements of original smile songs with erratic arrangements ("she's going bald" is basically outsider music) and book-ended with two bursts of brilliant maximal pop ("good vibrations" and "heroes and villains"). don't expect smile, but highly recommend. it sounds like a warm blanket that has a bug crawling on the top of it.

Brian Wilson - Brian/Piano Demos

>70s Brian compilation of unreleased piano demos. rough in voice, but the songs are there and often fantastic. daniel johnston-esque at points.

The large Session files might take a while. Just warning you!

>>61153196
I think most of the ones up to Pet Sounds are, and I know Wild Honey and Smiley Smile are. I'm gonna be honest, I'm not sure about the others. I'm also not a purist.. I actually prefer Pet Sounds in stereo!

I'm feeling lazy so I'm not going to make these individual posts. Currently upping Keeping The Summer Alive, LA, Summer in Paradise, the first three, the Christmas album, and That's Why God Made the Radio. Then I'll get some session albums up!

In case anyone didn't get these last thread:

The Beach Boys - Love You (1977)
>synthpop, essential, brian has full creative control for the first time since "smile" and creates what can only be described as manic depressive children's songs

"Imagine playing J.S. Bach a Phil Spector album, then telling him “you have an hour to write as many songs that sound like that as possible”, and locking him in a room with Jonathan Richman as a lyricist. Then take those songs and give them to Tom Waits to record, but with the only instruments allowed being a Moog with its settings stuck on “fart sound” and a single snare drum." - Andrew Hickey

Brian Wilson and The Beach Boys - Adult/Child (1977)
>rejected followup to the 1977 classic "Love You", brian at his most fun and crazy, essential if you're a fan

"A friend of mine suggested that they probably just didn't want to follow up the goofy children's songs of Love You with an equally bizarre attempt to convert America's Favorite Beach Music Nostalgia Guys into "Bri Wilson and the Big Beach Band - Live! At the Palamino Club. NUDE WOMEN! LIVE SEX SHOWS!"" - Mark Prindle

"What the fuck are you doing?" - Mike Love, in response to Adult/Child

Thank you very much for these. I hate to be a person, but Surfer Girl seems to have been skimmed over. It's the one I've heard the most positive things about (as far as pre All Summer Long albums go), so if you also have that one and wouldn't mind upping another album, I'd really appreciate it.

Based as hell btw, good on you.

He's a pretty good artist, but his playing might seem cold to some. If you love rock or jazz fusion with a Latin spice I recommend Elegant Gypsy and Casino.
>>
>>61153397
Overall, probably Surf's Up or God Only Knows. They're obvious picks but they're both so fucking immaculate. Favorite "underrated" song is definitely I'll Bet He's Nice though. Love You in general needs more attention outside of /mu/. You?
>>
>>61153398
Casino is amazing

Likely Surf's Up or Caroline, No, but The Night Was So Young and Still I Dream Of It from that era are in my top songs.

John McLaughlin - Extrapolation (1969)
>Post-Bop, Jazz Fusion
Extrapolation is a beautiful jazz record with an enchanting atmosphere. It is not guitar jazz similar to Wes Montgomery or Grant Green, but more band-oriented and with a 'looser' approach. There is a magical flow throughout the album and the teamplay of the band is impeccable. A hidden gem.

Just think; in only a few dozen more threads, everyone will finally come to recognize djent for what it is: the music of the future, the true patrician genre that all the world is destined to embrace as lovingly as possible. The mainstream already has, now it's time for /mu/ to as well. Thank you, djentspammer; the world conquest of djent is coming soon.

post-djent
>>
>>61160412
Post-djent?! I've never heard of that, but it sounds awesome.

Can you link me some? I seriously hope it isn't some castrated hipster garbage like everything else that has "post-" in it.
>>
>>61152246
You reposted Splendido hotel's link on accident
>>
>>61160468
it was a joke

sorry

it will probably be a thing at some point though
>>
can someone link me to some pink floyd?
>>
>>61160405
Literally anything else.
>>
>>61160468
Cloudkicker - Beacons is kind of djent and post-metal
>>
>>61160482
You know what isn't a joke?

There's some hipster kid browsing this board right this minute who hasn't heard any metal in his life; he'll hear djent, he'll fall in love with it, and he'll want to splice it with all his P4Kcore indie shit. You know what that'll make? Post-djent, legitimate, unironic post-djent; the next big thing in metal, chugging x11, lots of effects pedals to achieve a shoedjent/djentgaze effect, whiny rapped vocals, IDM influences, forced references to J. D. Salinger, slam poetry interludes full of four-letter-words, and fuck only knows what else.
>>
>>61160589
Oh, and a manifesto about the chug/djoo/dent, a loving and positive counterpoint to the dark and negative Swedish djent.
>>
>>61160412
>>61160468

This album is post-djent

A little bit, I highly rec. watching it regardless.

BTW, I just uploaded the whole VDP discography on the other sharethread!

>>61163868
would you happen to have Pacific Ocean Blue, MIU Album, Still Crusin, and Stars and Stripes, as well the 1965 Concert album, and the US Version of Summer in Paradise?

Any of these would be great, and I understand if you don't have them all, you've done a great service regardless with all your other shares :)
