I mean it is a dead genre. All the sounds that can be found in "shoegaze" have been found because it's a genre label that's limiting and referring to a specific scene and small number of bands from 25 years ago. If something actually did innovate it wouldn't be shoegaze anymore. Same with post-punk and neo-pyschodelia, they're just imitating older sounds that fit within that genre.

There's some okay bands still and it can be enjoyable, but it will never reach above what it currently is or up to what it once was, and it will never expand.
>>
>>61178522
Pretty much. A lot of the stuff posted in this general is kind of a stretch.
>>
>>61178522
Most of this is true. Most of the time, people take that influence and put it somewhere else. Like Sigur Ros, Tim Hecker and M83 are all influenced by Shoegaze. I wouldn't necessarily say the genre is dead though. There are still cool post-punk and neo-psychodelia bands. Genres come and go all the time, Shoegaze will have a resurgence one day.

You might as well say Rock n Roll is a dead genre since nobody is making new songs in the original style, it's all "desert rock, "post-punk," "shoegaze," "math rock" or whatever more recent twist the band is using. It completely misses the point of how inspiration and musical lineage works though, if someone takes a nod to shoegaze in a newer style and is embraced by fans of old shoegaze then it seems inane to try to argue that is a completely new thing with no ties to what came before. Change happens and has literally always happened at every single stage in the history of music. Genres aren't meant to be strict style guidelines, they group for convenience. It's still convenient to group things under shoegaze so the genre clearly isn't "dead" in any meaningful sense.

>>
>>61167177

This is almost great. A lot of the riffs bleed together in a rather unmemorable way but the one real issue is how short it is. Why do bands do this? Nine songs in barely half an hour isn't an album, would it really have been that difficult to write like two more four minute songs before calling it a day?

I didn't look very hard but I can't seem to find anything else by them, I'd be willing to give the band another shot though since they do have a very solid texture. Just a shame this one couldn't do it for me.

Honestly dude It's barely listenable, and this is coming from someone who loves noise. It's just recorded like total shit.

Having said that, if you turn it up loud enough and grit your teeth then it will actually sound pretty damn cool at certain points when the vocals are going and you can detect some sort of guitar rhythm.

TLDR; Most wouldn't find it listenable but it's not a total meme like viper

YES! This album is great! If I remember correctly it also includes a great "christmas-y" version of Pangea Girls (Magic Feeling) from Ceres and Calypso.

Pic related has some great summer vibes, if any of you people are getting tired of winter.

I dunno man I've posted it a few times but the threads keep dying. It's a great album and if they keep making music im sure theres room for improvement. It's good "heavy" shoegaze.

I'm going to start listening only to BC core music in 2016. I think bandcamp core shoegaze really peaked this year, so many interesting independent artists

Can we talk about how surprisingly good this and the Gold album are for a Christian band?
>>
>>61163871
crazy to see this album pop up here now all of the sudden, i remember listening to this a lot along with portishead in my triphop phase almost 20 years ago. smoked up for the first time to this album
>>
>>61224869
it always feels super unfair to call sf59 a Christian band. They're great, and that's like the worst thing one can pigeonhole a band as.
>>
>>61226088
I feel ya there. I associate them with CR, because that was all my friend was allowed to listen to. She let me listen to this album and I was blown away. I guess Chevelle had the same association effect for some reason too.

I lost my virginity to Gold.

I was big into Chiptune and Shoegaze at one point. I discovered The Depreciation Guild through 8bitpeoples, Chipgaze if you will. The band folded into The Pains of Being Pure At Heart which I would also recommend
