He is wrong, yeah, but anyway mixing any kinds of psychoactive substances is usually not a very good idea unless you are sure what you are doing and have experience. It all varies by person, yep, and my experience have been that usually I just don't feel very well on that combination, like something tight in my chest, perhaps my health is not perfect for this shit whatever. The only thing I love is smoking a bit when on hallucinogens, though for tons of people it's just worsens the experience and turns the mood darker afaik.
I suggest to that guy to smoke alone, smoke a little (you can always add when you feel like it), smoke in a good mood and don't overly concentrate on the clouded judgement and impaired movement and just enjoy the feeling and the music.

Just ask someone of those everyones about who can hook you up. Smell is kinda difficult to describe, like some christmas tree?.. But it's still different, and there may be some aromas too, like citrus, really varies depending on what weed it is and how it was treated after the harvest.
Also really smokers don't smell like weed if they haven't smoked a lot in the past few hours and change their clothes and otherwise follow the basic human hygiene, you can smell it if it just sits there in their pocket in decent amount and not properly sealed so guess what's your chances. I once carried about 10g in my backpack for a day or two, after that there was a faint smell sure, but you wouldn't be able to smell it when it was inside unless you really just ram the backpack with your nose and know what smell you are looking for.
