I just wrote a 20 page paper about Japanoise for an Asian and Middle Eastern Studies final. Turns out the prof was a noise fan too so I got pretty lucky. Learned a shitload about the genre and realized just how much I love it. If you haven't seen "WE don't Care About Music Anyways" I HIGHLY recommend, very insightful and interesting documentary

Anyways I listened to the merzbox while writing it, and realized the dl link I found for it in the archive had broken links for CD 20 and CD 21 can anyone please please please hook a brotha up I've looked through more than the archive for them and all the old noiseblogs links are dead, I'm so ocd about this I feel tainted by not having the full thing I'm only missing 2 cds arg this is excruciating

it actually made me cry. honestly, no piece of music and text has had that kind of effect on me in years. when you finish the book - that chronicles dom's uncle's life and focuses on his last weeks - and then listen to 'yellow trumpets grow in darkness' again, you can hear dom just fucking split in two and it's heartbreaking

I had the good fortune to see Incapacitants live in 07. They're one of the only noise acts I can think of that can do what seems like an unpracticed, improvisational chaotic harsh noise set and have it sound completely planned and ideal. The equipment is piled and wired all over the place but they appear to know exactly how the pieces will interact with each other. These guys are still one of the best, most skilled noise acts around.

what're yall listening to /noise/?

I just started FFH - silenced whore. and, like everything I've heard from FFH, it's fairly enjoyable.

I doubt it's the same thing, but is that cover art from that one story in Romania where a priest crucified and gagged this nun in a basement until she died because she claimed she heard voices from the devil?
>>
>>61104008
I have no idea but knowing noise artists I wouldn't be surprised.

I mean, I don't know if any photos were taken, and I don't even remember if she died tied up there or not. Just the first thing I thought of.

Anyway, it's not really a pedal, but the Korg Monotron Delay is sweet as hell, both as a standalone thing and as an effect. Besides that, I like a lot of the other ones Behringer puts out, since they're cheap and pretty good, y'know (at least, pretty good for this). It's hard to recommend things in particular, y'know, but you can look into basically any of them and get something useful.

>>61125825

>>
>>61128929
Well, it's sortof difficult to say, and as you might guess I haven't listened to it in a year so I don't remember it too well, but basically:
1. Every track was basically exactly the same. Like, beyond talk of "cohesiveness" or whatever, each track (and there were a lot of them) was basically a one-to-three second burst of noisy feedback, with nothing of particular interest happening in any track. This might have been fine if they all came together well, y'know, but it was basically just a waste of time.
2. Everything was recorded with an iphone, which didn't contribute to the music in any positive way.
3. Beyond the homogeneousness of the tracks, there wasn't anything in particular about his music itself to differentiate it from any number of other dumb thing you could find on Glitch City or whatever.
4. Everything was really low-effort, from the songs themselves (I think he said he did them in FL by just throwing all the default effects at something), to the artwork, etc. Somehow, it took three people to make.
5. He was really annoying. If all of the above had been true and he just posted it once, twice, went on his merry way, nobody would care at all. Because he both insisted his music was good, that it should be liked, and on general principle berated people that disagreed with him, it made everything else come out worse. In contrast, Japshitfun had the good sense to leave when the joke was over; Girl-O didn't realize they were the joke.
6. Stupid and retarded
>>
>>61129178

Is it this? How could anyone take this seriously?
>>
>>61087638
no but this works http://www.letv.com/ptv/vplay/23933156.html
>>
>>61129325
Yeah, that's it.
His idea, as I could grasp it from his arguments, was that because noise "could be anything," it didn't have any particular obligation to be appealing in any sense. I suppose that's true, but when you're saying that at the same time that you're asking people to like your project, or take you seriously, etc, it sortof stops making sense.
It also doesn't help that, even if we're to take it as a joke, it's not very funny. I guess they thought they were next-leveling people by making a joke so unfunny that it became funny, but, well, they were unsuccessful.

Anyway, let's never talk about them again.
