Laughing stock is the closest posted here. I prefer spirit of eden though.
>>61081662
I'm not a feels guy. Spiderland has some of the greatest rock instrumentation of all time. Each note is used perfectly.
>>61080920
there are none
>>61081637
>Don't get all this Spiderland hype.
Have you listened to it? I mean maybe you don't love it that much but to say you don't get the hype you're just trying to seem unique.
>>61081662
You sure distinguished yourself from the unwashed masses and established yourself as a special snowflake, buddy.
>>61082042
I'm not trying to seem unique, I just don't honestly feel it deserves all of the praise it seems to receive. Definitely strong musicianship but not a fan of the lyrics or the song structures generally
>>61082042
>you're just trying to seem unique
Yeah, how dare someone have their own taste
Spiderland is an album where I can appreciate its influence but I don't really enjoy listening to it, especially when there are so may great first-wave acts (Stereolab, Bark Psychosis, Long Fin Killie) that are overshadowed by SPIDERLAND AND SOUNDTRACKS ARE THE TRVE BEST POST ROCK ALBUMS
>>61082162
>I just don't honestly feel it deserves all of the praise it seems to receive
Yes it does.
>>61082198
It's not "taste" to say you don't get the hype, it's being objectively wrong.
>>61082387
But, you're incorrect on both counts
>>61080920
I want to let people who think they are familiar with Tortoise but haven't heard this record know that while only a few band members are different, this album has a completely different sound. It's sparse rhythm focused instrumental ambient with occasional forays into melody with no guitar, two basses and an occasional vibraphone or melodica.
>>61081646
you just described spiderland
>>61082596
I think there's some baritone guitar on there and maybe a little bit of regular guitar, but yeah it's mostly just bass. It's been a while since I've listened to it.
>>61083158
I don't think you're right about the baritone guitar. I think Doug uses a six string bass. But I guess it's not always an appreciable difference.
Anything by these faggots.
>>61080920
Spiderland is the best album ever. There's no album close to that level of darkness, calm, privacy and lack of pretentious
