I have really have gotten into Pink Floyd lately, and I was wondering if /mu/ could help me find more progressive rock bands. I pretty sure i know about the most popular bands, but i want to know more.

chances are you won't find a lot of music that is like Pink Floyd in progressive rock - I still don't think of them as a prog band necessarily.

But still explore prog - it's a really great genre with some fantastic playing and beautifully overblown songs

For modern bands like Pink Floyd listen to Airbag and RPWL

I find Tame Impala reminds me of the Floyd at times.

Pink Floyd is not a progressive rock band, m8. First of all, you need to tell us what albums did you like.
If it was Piper at the gates of dawn or A Saucerful of Secrets, you need to dig into psychedelic pop/rock starting with Syd Barrett's solo albums
If you liked Ummagumma's live disc, songs like Embryo and Careful with that axe Eugene, Atom Heart Mother, Meddle, Animals etc. you'd better start getting into Can and King Crimson

Don't really know about DSOTM, The Wall and WYWH though. They sort of sound generic so I'd advise trying to listen to the most popular proggy pop/rock releases on rym like Genesis although I don't like them at all.

Partially right. Basically, their discography is incredibly varied. Even from one album to the next. Find the album you like, try to find things similar.
If you haven't listened to their entire discography yet though, listen to it. I haven't listened to anything post-Roger just because I know I don't like it all that much, but everything up to The Final Cut is some of the best rock out there.

Check out the allman brothers band and/or causa sui. Two different takes on progressive music but equally great bands.

The Alan Parsons Project is the only correct answer.

Their entire catalog is future genius.
